Fluffy puffs, like the soft undercoat on a rabbit, floated serenely on an ocean of deepest indgo speckled with sparkling flecks. They moved effortlessly, as though even the wind had no energy to hurry them along. Eyes like bits of faded sky watched them, drinking in a vista that seemed to have no end and no bottom.

Bluu lay on her back in a bed of soft grasses at the top of a hill. Situated as she was, as long as she was careful not to turn her head, all she could see was the sky, stretching to the very edges of her vision. With nothing to do, and a little tired from her wandering, she'd taken up her vigil and let the clouds amuse her as they floated by. Stretching up her forepaws, she waved them around gently to amuse herself, pretending to stir up the clouds and wondering what one would feel like under her paw.

What a lazy evening... but that suited the hyena just fine. After the gloom of the graveyard, it was nice to just lay back and absorb the color around her. Not that the graveyard didn't have color, or that the sun didn't shine on it... but it seemed as though the sun was dimmed there, the colors muted to an almost uniform gray.

A soft little huff of laughter came from her as she let her paws fall back to rest on her chest, contemplating a rather silly idea of capturing color somehow, and bringing it back to that dreary place.

Ba'kru moved about, roaming the lands with his female companion. The leopard was all too used to the lands now. Being a jungle cat, he knew little of the dangers of the savanna except that staying on the ground at night was perhaps the stupidest idea any life-clinging being would do out here. Out here, it was live or die. Kru wanted to live, he had things he wanted to do, dreams and desires to fulfill. As long as he had Alula, he had a chance to fulfill his heart's desire of finding his life love. Someone to love deeply and unerring. As long as he had her, there was no way to accomplish his dreams of having a family. No leopard would love him.

Eyes like the sky stood out against his dark colored body, his light stripes across his body. If it were not for those, he would be the absolute hunter of the night, no need to hide. Strong legs of scaling trees, he was able to jump rather high and run for a while with a good boost of speed. He was a land leopard, but that did not mean he had no limits.

Kru wandered the night, wandering about to see exactly where he was. The stars were hiding behind soft puffs of clouds. He could not quite find his way to the beach, but the journey was the fun part! As he reached the hill top, he noticed something by his side that he had not seen. Not too far away was another being. Perhaps a nocturnal. Leopards themselves were nocturnal, but Kru slowly began to become more of the day type. Curious, he approached.

"Good evening..."

A voice pulled Bluu from her revere, and she let her head fall to the side as she blinked slowly. It looked like some kind of cat... but he blended well with the night, so it was hard to be sure.

" 'Ello." She called back. "Nice night, eh?" She cackled as she turned her head back to the sky, assuming that since he'd bothered to greet her that he probably didn't intend to doing anything to her.

Not that she was worried... he looked like he wouldn't be too much for her to handle. She'd be able to at least make him think twice about attacking her again. A hyena's jaws were famous for their crushing power.

"What brings ya out so late?"

"Indeed, quite the night. The stars litter the sky here, not clouded by the canopy of the jungle. You could say it is like seeing the full sky for the first time," he smiled as he sat down beside her. He saw no harm from her and saw that he had nothing to worry about. She was but another being who wanted to be left at peace. His tail flicked slightly as his head craned like hers.

"I came here looking for the Great King star, at least, according to how the Pride Landers called it," he chuckled. "I just know it as the brightest one. You see, I am a vagabond heading to the ocean with a good friend. I would rather not disappoint her and get us lost out here, you see?"

He paused. Letting things settle.

"How about you?"

The dark hyena flicked an ear as she listened, finding it unusual for another creature, a stanger at that, to be so verbose. Well, if he felt comfortable enough to offer, she might as well offer back. It was polite, after all.

"M' name's Bluu, Stranger. And I can't say as I've ever seen the sky obscured by anything more than the clouds. I've never visited the jungle, though I guess I should... Want to see all the places on this Earth, eventually." She pondered his search for the brightest star and settled her head back, scanning for the one she knew of. He must mean the Northern star... She'd never had the chance to really talk to any Pridelanders and find out what they called their stars. Lifting a paw, she waved at the bit of sky where the star rested.

"That it there? Brightest one I know of... but I don't navigate by stars. I just travel where my paws take me, much as they did today, to find myself here." She smiled, feeling amiable tonight.

"Ba'kru is my name. I use the stars when i want to go to somewhere specific like the ocean, otherwise, I'll let my paws go where they go and simply enjoy the journey. It is a lot more fun that way." he smiled as he looked up at to where the hyena waved her paws.

"That would be it, certain. That is the one I needed. If I continue going where I was, I was going to end up back in the jungle. Now that is one place I do not want to go." he laughed. "Besides, I promised Alula the ocean and the jungle is no ocean, don't you agree, Bluu?"

He paused again with a soft smile.

"You have such a nice name. Do you have anyone special or has your travels gotten you too displaced to seek one? Or are you like I who travels in search of the love the heart calls for? ... Sorry if I am asking too much..."

Bluu laughed as she listened, thinking this one was quite the talker.

"Oh yes, much more fun, and what's the point to life if you're not having fun?" She cackled as she squirmed against the grass, scrubbing her spine. "Naw, the jungle ain't no ocean, though I've never seen the ocean either."

She tilted her head to look him over as she cackled again, her white tail swishing over the grass as she wagged it. "I'm glad you like my name, but you're about the only one who does. I ain't got anyone to chare my heart with, nor am I searching for one. I like to travel alone, and I don't need the entanglements, if you know what I mean. Gets in the way of my foot-loose and fancy-free." She laughed as she rolled onto her side, then to her stomach, laying so she could better look over this strange... leopard, yes, now she could tell it was a male leopard.

"And nice t' meetcha by the way, Ba'Kru."

"Likewise!" he chuckled.

This hyena certainly had a strange view on things. A true loner. A vagabond at heart. What a lonely life she lived... he knew it and feared to go back to it. The purpose of his travels was to find that fish in the sea that was perfect for him. That perfect lover. Kru nodded. "I do know what you mean, but since no leopard will love me, I do not have to worry about it. Though, I would love to have my own family, to know that there are those who need me and want me. Those who will carry on my memory when I depart from this world. However, right now, I am just looking for that special someone."

Kru shifted and rose to his feet, stretching.

"The Graveyard, just further than the Pride lands is full of hyenas I hear, if you ever do wish to seek a mate of a sort, I would go there. There are lots of places to travel, who knows what fate has for us, right?" He smiled at her. "From what I heard of hyenas, you don't seem all that blood thirsty at all."

Bluu's life, while often lonely and hard, was still the one she liked best, and she never longed too badly for companionship. It was easier for her, since she had an ability to get along with just about anyone. If this twilight conversation wasn't an example of that, nothing was.

"How do you know that no leopard will love you?" She cackled, tossing her head to bounced her bangs out of her eyes. "Have you met every lady leopard in the world? Have you gotten to know each and every one of them, to know that they could never, and will never, love you? And besides that, what's love? Is love settling down in one place, never leaving, never changing, spawning untold number of cubs? Is love meeting one night, and for a brief time, shining as bright as the sun itself, then leaving to never think of the other without a warm glow inside? Is love promising to always protect, or to choose to leave to spare the other pain?" She couldn't help laughing as she talked philosophy with a leopard... this hyena who cared more to have fun and enjoy things than to debate the mysteries of the world.

"Ah well... you're heart will tell you what it wants you to do. And aye... I've been to the graveyard. In fact, I'm newly come from it, after a long stay. I needed some time away from all the gray and get some color in me, before I fade away." She laughed again, something that seemed to be a personality trait for this particular hyena. "If I decide I want a tumble in the grass, I'm sure I can find a male willing to accommodate me." Her pale eyes shone with mirth as she joked with him, finding this male to be quite amusing to talk to, with his views on life and dreamy attitude.

"Love is not as you may think-no, I have my own thoughts about it. I may think you might find me different. You see, I have tried for a long time to woo a leopardess ever since I was able to mate and actually create cubs. I tried time after time, running into females who wanted more than me. Those who played with my heart only to leave me out to dry. Those who only showed any signs of affection to me only to strengthen their relations with their current mate! It was ridiculous what some females would do, some, not all," he spoke. "I want to love... I do want to settle down, perhaps keep traveling with the female I fall for. If she happens to be a leopard, then yes, I would love to have cubs, having a family is something I have dreamed of having. I could never do a single night of passion, never. If I find the one I truly love, then I would stay with her to the ends of time until it ripped us apart. Love isn't as you may see it, for me... I just want someone to come home to when the days over, someone to be beside me as we rest, someone to laugh with."

He sighed and looked up into the sky again. That special someone is like the stars themselves, thousands and thousands around, but only his would sparkle the most.

"Maybe you will find a male, maybe not. I never have quite gone there myself, heard too many rumors about it. I am not ready to end my life quite yet," he paused and nosed her softly. "Thanks for the talk, Bluu. I should get back to Alula now, I don't want to keep her waiting. There are some of us who want to be by ourselves, and others who want to be needed. I do hope that perhaps you will find yourself toward the latter choice, loneliness is perhaps the worse form of suffering there is." With and smile and a dip of his head, he started back down the hill and out into the night.

The blue hyena lifted an eyebrow as she listened, taking in the what the leopard had to say about love and his life. Interesting views... he seemed the hopeless romantic, something Bluu was surely not.

"Poor thing..." She murmured, though there wasn't much empathy in her voice. A smile hovered on her face as she heard him out to the end, unable to hold back a chuckle when he'd finished. Yep, this boy was something else.

"Ai, maybe I will... most likely I won't. If he wants me, he'll have to follow me, 'cause I don't plan on stopping my play anytime soon." She laughed as she felt him touched her, batting at him gently with a forepaw. "Well, good night Ba'kru! I hope we meet again, and have the time to discuss more philosophy!"

Cackling, the hyena rolled over to turn her gaze back to the stars again, but this time with more to think about than before.
