The plant life here was quite a bit stranger than what he was used to; not as colorful, thicker and much more curious looking. It grew in sporadic patches along the cracked seafloor, like little colonies bunched together. It wasn’t the ‘sea ‘shrooms’ – as Prima was wont to call it – that had attracted him though. Here, where the sandy floor dipped down and rolled, the earth seemed to end. Here, dark blue yawned up at him from where he floated. Here, there was a deep sea trench splitting the ground like an ugly scar...
And starfish were tumbling into it like shooting stars.
Prima swam along the edges, the thick stalk of grass tickling his belly. He knew that if he went down there, there’d be something amazing. He also knew if Angathi found him, he’d have his head. The mer-foal chewed his lower lip in thought, the suction from the canyon tugging at his fins.
Temptation was murder.

Spending most of the day on her own, Pukka had taken to exploring around where her parents dwelled. Her sisters off doing something else, or playing whatever. Mama and Daddy had gone out to do something as well. Though she couldn't remember what exactly it was.
Not hours earlier, Pukka had come across this deep ravine. It seemed almost bottomless. Having pitched a few sea bed rocks into it's murky darkness. The little Kelpie hadn't even heard them hit the ground. How...odd. She would certainly have to bring this up with her Daddy. See what he says about it. Or maybe even Mama. She seemed smart about these things too. Right! When she got home she'd tell both her parents!
Curiosity having got the better of her, Pukka had floated down a few feet into the darkness. Strange lights caught her eye every now and again. But she didn't investigate. Perhaps when she came back up. The float down took forever! Moving her body close to the rocky wall, she soon found a little rocky perch in which she rested upon. Maybe this thing was just WAY too deep. Hopefully she wouldn't have any trouble getting back up!

Prima slithered on his belly across the edge of the ravine, kicking up sand with his tail as he crawled along. His daring half told him to leap into the darn thing already! while his sensible half (which there wasn't much of as it were and looked a bit like Angathi) wailed for him to swim away, and swim away quick. But what sort of trouble could he get himself into with a big ol' hole-in-the-ground? Looking both ways, and guiltily at that, he hooked his forelegs onto the edge of the cliff side and stuck his nose down - the suction tugged greedily at his face, and struggling, he called out:
"Anybody down there?"
He paused and dragged his face up, jutting out his lower lip. He poked his head down again, "Welp, M'comin' down, then!"
Shoving off with his gangly hooves, he drifted quickly into the murky darkness, legs tucked against his chest as his tail worked in overtime to pitch him further into the trench.
