The air was crisp and cool, signaling the coming of snow. The hard granite rocks of the mountain seemed to have been polished by the cooler weather, almost glowing in the early dawn light. The fresh scent of the forest mingled with the sharp chill of the air to form a scent that the minya standing on the mountain's side found particularly appealing. She stood, surveying the view from her vantage point. The valley that was spread out beneath her encompassed all kinds of terrain, ranging from wooded areas to a large lake to a small desert. She remained high above all of this, however, completely separated from the world below.

Idril shifted her weight as she moved away from the edge of her ridge, looking back at the path she had been following. She had been curious about the peaks in this mountain range and had been systematically climbing them all. This one had captivated her curiousity and imagination the most. The whisps and sparkles, resembling magical energy, that always surrounded her seemed to have a life of their own as they swayed in the high altitude breezes. The rising sun's rays hit her, making Idril's lavendar eyes glow. Her body sparkled with its own inner light. She smiled, reveling in the new day and the serenity of her surroundings.

Requiem had never been up this close to the mountains before. He had always wondered about what it was like, way up there. Was it cold, or was it rather warm? He could only guess cold since the tops of the mountains were always covered with snow and ice. They always seemed to shine and sparkle, showing off how magnificent they were. Requiem sometimes wished he could be one of those mountains, for he dreamed of being respected and looked upon, just like the mountains were. However, there was no way he would ever have that type of glory.

He, as much as he hated it, was a runt.

Yes, he was the smallest of the litter. Out of his large family, he had been the one to be the smallest in size. Now, while his siblings knew better than to tease him about it, the few times they did stuck with the male Minya, always making him remember how they joked about him. He had hated it, but never said anything. He simply tried to ignore it. Looking up at the snowy mountains though made him remember those ugly memories... And simply dream of being normal.

As his blue and purple eyes stared up at the majestic mountains before him, something rather... Colorful... Caught his eye. He looked at it curiously, his ears perking up more than normal. What ever it was, it was beautiful, and the male just had to get a closer look at it. So, without ever having done it before, Requiem began to start up a path that was on the side of the mountain, his curiosity getting the better of him.

Idril continued to study the path she had taken to ascend the mountain. It curved and twisted to follow the ridge, but had been suprisingly easy to climb up. Unlike the slippery granite and soft snow surrounding it, the path was made of packed dirt, allowing for some actual traction despite the melting snow lining the sides of the beaten trail.

As she gazed down the mountain, squinting her eyes against the glare of sun on snow and gray, smooth rock. Despite the glare, she soon saw something moving below her. Focusing her attention on the figure, she noticed that, while partially gray, it also seemed to be black with specks of other colors. The figure was definitely attempting to scale the path below; the shadowy shape traveled up the ribbon of deep brown faster than she would have anticipated. Smiling, Idril settled down to wait. She was curious about the other and, truthfully, was beginning to feel lonely on the ledge surrounded by nothing but light and its reflections.

Stopping for a second and looking up, the male Minya could see the figure above a little bit better. While he still had a long way to go up the winding path along the side of the mountain, he figured it'd pay off. The colors up there were very bright, and they seemed to float about a rather dark thing. It intrigued Requiem, and with such beautiful colors like that, he just had to get a close look at it.

So, trudging onward, his blue and purple eyes watched the thing above him, checking down at the path below him every now and then, just to make sure he was still following it. He would find out what that magnificent thing up towards the top of the mountain was, no matter what.

Sitting on the path, Idril sighed. She was many things, but when it came to curiousity her patience tended to run a little thin. She stood and stretched, the mist around her flowing fluidly with her own motions. After working out the kinks in all of her muscles, the female minya faced the mountain's base with renewed determination.

Springing forward with her powerful legs, Idril began a loping jog down the peak's path. The wind whipped around her, causing the 'magic' surrounding her to curl and twist about her body. Grace flowed from her every movement, her paws making no sound as she ran; they faded into nothingness before hitting the ground, giving her the appearance of floating a few inches above the earth's surface. Going at her current speed, she should meet the object of her curiousity about halfway down the mountain.

With his sensitive ears picking up the sound of something very soft and delicate, Requiem instantly became tons more excited. His clambering self had started to run up the side of the mountain, his eyes constantly looking up, checking for the dark thing with the beautiful, floating colors. What was it? Was it alive? Was it another Minya?

He would only find out if he continued to scale the side of the mountain. His patience was wearing very thin, and he could feel his heart beating faster than it ever had. He just had to see what it was! He had never seen anything like it, and such odd and mysterious things intrigued him to no end. He was already reaching the half way point of the mountain, not realizing that the thing above him was coming down to see what he was, just as he was with it.

Idril heard the pitter-patter of feet increasing their speed as they raced up the terrain. Smiling now, she let herself go, pratically falling down the steep slope as she raced her own whisps of color down. An excitement she could not understand filled her. Why am I so anxious? What do I expect to find? Such questions flitted in and out of her mind as if the wind rushing past her brought them and then took them away.

The halfway point loomed ahead. She reached it, stopping suddenly and skidding across the sudden array of slick rock that formed what seemed like a flat plain on the mountainside. Glancing about, she searched for the one she had seen approaching. It had to be alive, for she had heard its footsteps and seen it cover the ground swiftly. Other than that, though, she had no idea what to expect.

The male Minya was thankful that he looked ahead before he had looked back up. There, within just a few feet in front of him, was the thing he had been racing up to see. It was a very lovely, dark-colored, female Minya. She had gorgeous eyes, and she had colorful wisps floating all around her. It was like... She held a magical aura around her, and it increased her beauty by double.

Having skidded to an absolute halt, Requiem was about two feet in front of her, his blue and purple eyes looking at her solid purple ones. His words became lost and his throat choked up. He wanted to speak, but he didn't know what to say, nor how to say it.

"Uhhhh... Ummm...", he stuttered, his body shaking at the sight of the sudden discovery.

One moment she blinked, and the next...she was standing only a few feet from another, her eyes locked with his own. He was a male minya, with a black coat that faded to gray by his ears and chest. Speckles of lavendar, royal purple, green, and violet covered his back, legs, and tail, seeming to draw her in with their comforting patterns. The most stunning thing about his appearance though, was what sparkled on his forehead. Resting neatly between black eyebrows, currently raised in a look of shock, lay a glowing jet black gem surrounded by pure gold. Light hit it, invoking the shine and illuminating her own whisps of colorful mist.

Staring at him, she felt unable to speak, to even breathe. Finally taking in shakey bits of air, Idril continued to stare at the one before her, the trance-like state not broken even by his stuttered start at a greeting. Forcing her mind away from his handsome features, she tried to retain some semblance of practicality and calm.

"Hello." The word, although whispered, sounded as loud to her as if she had screamed it. In fact, she wondered in the back of her mind if an avalanche would suddenly appear, swiping her and her companion down the side of their peak. Not even that thought could tear her eyes off of the male before her, as she awaited his response.

"H-Hi... Th-There..", he was able to stutter out, a slight flush invading his black cheeks. "Ummm... Uhhh.. Y-Yea.." He was failing. No more actual words would come out of his mouth. He felt like such the stupid male, acting like a complete fool in front of a female... An especially beautiful one at that.

He could do nothing more than stare at her. His body was shaking, but not from the extreme cold that existed up in the mountains. No. It was more of sudden fear and astonish. Requiem had begun to feel like he had died and gone to heaven or something. He felt like he was staring into the eyes of an angel.

Her body was pure black, but it was smothered in blue and violet swirls. They shined and shimmered, making her pelt stand out amongst everything around the two of them. Beautiful wisps of colors floated all around her, making her look magical and angelic. She seemed so soft, carefree, and open to the world. Requiem could only imagine what her personality was like.

Idril smiled slightly at the other's stuttered words. The light blush gave his whole face a pinkish tinge, making his eyes stand out even more against his darker body. It also seemed to illuminate his cheeks, giving the appearance of a glowing light coming from him. Pulling herself away from her careful study of the male's face, she once again took in his whole appearance.

Because of this change of perspective, the female noticed her companion begin to shake. Concern filled her. She had always had a high tolerance for extreme weather, but knew that others often did not posess such an ability. Hesitating for a moment, she renewed her determination and stepped forward, closing the distance between them. The wisps of color whirled around her, almost touching the long ears and legs of the other. She stared into his eyes for a moment more, trying not alarm him. She knew from experience that her otherworldly aspects were often considered frightening and caused discomfort to those around her. Hoping with all her heart that this one would be different, she opened her mouth to speak.

"Are you all right? You're shaking..." She let her concern be visible through the deep violet windows of her eyes. Almost holding her breath, she waited for his reaction to her closeness and question.

Requiem, having watched the delicate female move back and forth, her eyes taking in each and every inch of him, took a very deep breath, his chest rising with confidence, and then letting it fall when he breathed back out. His multi-colored eyes showed compassion for the female in front of him, but he wasn't sure that she saw it. So, when she had gotten up the courage, very unlike himself, to speak, he spoke back.

"Yes. I'm f-fine. Just... Surprised, to say in the least." A dorky smile crossed over his face, his front paws moving about nervously. The only girls he had ever met before were part of his family. Seeing this beautiful one in front of him now really threw him off. "Oh! Ummmm.. Are you alright? You have.. Uhhh.... W-Weird things floating around you."

The black and gray male looked into the female stranger's eyes, almost as if searching for something. While he couldn't seem to find it, he sure didn't mind just staring into the purple eyes. They were gorgeous.

Idril listened intently to the male's words, entranced by the sing-song pattern of his voice. Coming out of her thoughts, she refocused her attention just in time to notice his sudden smile. Immediately, her entire world lit up; a wave of warmth swept through her body, making her feel a bit lightheaded. Due to this immense level of emotion, she almost missed his question about herself. Hearing his comment about the floating baubles about her, she laughed aloud.

"I'm fine. The mist and sparkles around me are always there...They are a part of me." She watched him closely as his eyes searched hers. She continued her thought slowly, spurred on by curiousity. "Do you like them?"
PostPosted: Sat Dec 01, 2007 1:49 pm

"Oh yes. They're very beautiful, much like yourself."

Requiem continued to smile... Until he finally realized what he had said. His eyes grew wide and a sudden, rather deep flush came about his face. Had he truly just said that? Maybe he only thought he did... Yea. He only thought he did... Right?

"Uhhhh.. Oh geez... What I meant to say was...", he trailed off, his paws stamping the path below them. His eyes looked from one direction to another, and then back at the purple ones in front of him. He just couldn't tear his gaze away for long. These eyes in front of him were the most beautiful eyes he had ever seen before, and they were just a solid color, unlike his and his mother's. Amazing.

Idril blinked in suprise. Had she truly heard correctly? Did this other really think that she was beautiful? All others that she had met had thought her unusual and mythological, but never beautiful. The deep flush on the other's face matched one of her own. She could feel her cheeks heating up as he admitted that he liked the aura surrounding her.

Once again smiling at his stuttering, she stepped up to him and gently nuzzled his black cheek, letting her joy at his acceptance of her odd appearance guide her actions. She then stepped back, letting him stare into her eyes again.

"Thank you," she whispered softly. Smiling at him with more joy than she could truly explain, she felt her heart once again become light as if she had suddenly gained wings.
