Why PS3

This thread was created majorly to compare the PS3 and the Xbox 360, but wii fans are aloud all the same. So, first and for most, I would like to apologize for this thread not being very appealing to the eye. Although I try to be literate everywhere I go, I am still not very good at making my threads look very pretty. Also, I'd like everyone to know that what I say in here is accurate to the best of my knowledge, taken from www.us.Playstation.com, www.xbox.com/en-us, or based on my personal experience of having a PS3. And lastly, when I began with the idea for this thread, I did not plan on adding any additional rules to the guild rules you already must obey. But I can see as I've been told this thread could spur a potential flame war that I must add some additional rules and guidelines to prevent that from happening. They are as follows:

-Do not act like your opinion is worth more than anyone elses, because it's not.

-Saying "I bought an xbox 360 because I felt it had a wider selection of games," is acceptable, but do not make that become the focus of this thread.

- I Over emphasize the "No Flaming" rule. Please present your opinions politely, and try to include why you feel how you feel.

-Do not provide information that is not true, nobody needs someone lying to win a debate.

That pretty much somes up rules, I reserve the right to add to or change them however. Anyway onto my major arguements for the PS3

Blu-Ray Disc Drive

I think most of us all know that a Blu-Ray player takes high definition to a new level. And most of us also know, that the cheapest one can buy one is for around $800 in the U.S. The PS3 just so happens to have a Blu-Ray disc drive, where one could play the hd Blu-Ray dvd's, and also all of the PS3's games are on Blu-Ray discs. Although both the 360 and the PS3 have identical graphics cards, the PS3's graphics appear much clearer and more highly defined on an hdtv than the 360. Many 360 users will argue "The potential of the Blu-Ray drive is never truly unlocked in PS3's games." While that is a true statement, the PS3 does not need to read discs at it's maximum speed in order to play the games and have high definition graphics.

Playstation Network

I Prefer the Playstation Network over Xbox live for one simple reason, it's free! The only expense some people may have to pay to use it is if they don't already have the means of accessing the internet. However in my case, I have a wireless router in my house, and there is a wireless receiver built in to the PS3. So all I had to do was make several free accounts for me and my family, type in the key code for our wireless network and just like that I was playing my PS3 online. Now all I have to do is turn the thing on and select a user and it automatically logs me in and searches for our network. A 360 user would have to pay $100 for a wireless receiver, and $50 per account, per year for gold membership on Xbox Live.
(added 12/3/07) Also, I love how you can join or host a game lobby, with a map/ level of your choice rather than having xbox live pick your opponents and map for you, and "vetoing" levels you don't want to play. This way, you don't end up with levels you don't want to play.

Accessories

Have you ever gone to gamestop and noticed there are almost no accessories for the PS3?? That's because the PS3 will work with everyday electronic items that average gamers already have. For example, any bluetooth headset will work with a PS3, all I had to do was take an old one that came with a motorola phone, register it to the PS3, switch it to pairing mode, and now all I have to do is turn it on and I can chat with other users. With a Xbox, I could use the wired headset that comes with it, or buy a wireless headset of equal quality as the bluetooth for $50. Another example I'm a big fan of is the rechargeable battery built into the PS3 controllers. I can charge them with a usb cable on my PS3 while I'm still playing. With an xbox, you'd either find yourself wasting through AA batteries which have a very short life in the xbox controller, or you can go out and buy the rechargeable batteries seperately. To name a few more, I can use any keyboard with my PS3 and I can connect it to a printer and print data. With an xbox the "messenger kit" would cost $30.

SixAxis, Dualshock 3 controllers

If your a big fan of interacting with your game system in other ways than what you see and hear, then you'll like whats packed inside the PS3 controllers. If your a big fan of moving your controller to perform an action, then you probably already have a wii. However, such technology is something that the 360 lacks, and is something to consider when you're choosing your console. Also, although the dualshock 1 and dualshock 2 controllers for the PS1 and the PS2 were terribly useless, sony has finally got it right with the dualshock 3. For example, in an fps game, you can actually feel the direction an explosion is coming from in your controller.

PSP+PS3

Although this is a very small point, I recomend the PS3 to anybody who is a PSP user because of the data sharing between the 2. The 2 systems go hand in hand. I can transfer songs, pictures, and downloaded ps1 games back and forth between my PSP and my PS3 (except of course the ps1 games).

Reliability

I'm sure by now if you're an xbox user you know what the "red ring of death" is. It pops up when theres a user error, or after about 6 hours+ of gaming, and it kills the xbox within seconds after it's appearence. Alot of the kids I know who bought their 360 2 years ago are already onto their 2nd xbox because their first one broke. With the PS3, it can be left on for much longer periods of time without overheating and gives a warning much further in advance when it is overheating.

Why Xbox

Ok, you saw why I beleive the PS3 is the better system, but beleive it or not I actually think the 360 is a cool system too, and would pruchase one if I could justify it (at the moment I play video games about 1/2 hour a day, and could not justify spending another $350 for another console). I'll explain now what I beleive the 360 definately has over the PS3

Xbox live

The wonderful thing about xbox live is you can put multiple users on the same system online at a time. The PS3 has no such feature so there is never anybody around to share the excitement of online gaming with for me.

Game selection

The 360 has a much wider variety of games than the PS3 because it cleverly launched a year before the PS3. The 360 has about twice as many games as the PS3 (because it's been out about twice as long) leaving me wishing one of the xbox exclusives would come out for the PS3 (that exclusive being halo 3).

Quotes

Here I'll put a list of quotes that I think are well formed, no matter which side they support. Some of the content of these quotes may end up on the main part of this post, mainly because the Xbox half is very malformed at the moment.

I wanna find something I've wanted all along....

I respect that you're trying to give your opinion, but people are probably going to act negatively and this might turn into a big flame fest...plus, this is the main forum. I think it might be more respectable in the PS3 subforum. I also don't think it will turn into a flame war over there as your posting it in the right subforum.

Anyway, I think you'd get a much wider opinion on your reasoning if you posted this in the Xbox 360 vs PS3 vs Wii sticky in the gaming discussion. It's also a lot more fitting for there 3nodding But if you want to keep this thread, I will move it to the Playstation 3 subforum after I get home from school so you can be aware of this post.

If it's a work in progress I don't see any reason why he can't leave it here, and then move it to the sticky, or at the least, our sub-sticky here in the guild, once it's done.

I agree that he can leave it till it is finished and then once it's done we'll move it to the appropriate location. Till then let's watch the work in progress. mrgreen

I don't think there will be any issue with it since it isn't done yet. Let's all decide now to not argue till it is done as his gradually adding things might lead us to take things out of context.

I respect your authority and understand your concern, but I don't really want to preach to preach to a group of people who already share the same views as me.

On second thought I'll do what you said and post this in the original thread if you want. My apologies xd

This post is going to be the beginning of the largest flame war ever. Refer to our anti-fanboy topic for reasons why. Well, I'll just state the most apparent reasons: 1. It's too biased. 2. It's a heavily blind statement, each console has its pros and cons, and that statement is only considering the cons of the others, and the pros of the PS3. 3. That statement shows fanboysim, and is a big example of what Wak and I stated about Sony fanboys thinking they're superior to other gamers.

Riddle me this, how many "fanboys" (wherever that came from) have you seen that actually take the time to prepare an argument for their favorite console? I think that we should allow this guy to share his thoughts on why he thinks that the Playstation 3 is the best system to choose out of this generation's selection, especially since all that we've been doing in this guild is democratic discussion that goes back and forth to what we've already talked about nine times over. Without the fans, really, what is gaming? Let him speak, don't start the flame war, especially since you'll most likely get yourself in trouble on Gaia due to their rules about bashing others for posts, alone.

Answering your question: TOO MANY. And this really isn't a good idea, it's just going to end up into a "PS3 has Heavenly Sword, the Xbox 360 and Wii don't, therefore, they suck" type of situation. And you don't need fans for gaming, just people to buy the games to keep the industry alive.

Oh there's an issue. I've got my pitchfork and I'm ready to flame, biatch!

...

Not really, I just would rather not see this on the main forum, even in its current state...

Great shot at being politically correct, but I highly doubt that making an unrealistic shot at how people would "purchase games without liking them" would support your argument any further.
