Appt. RP for Sam, Xe, and clinic staff
Vampiric fertility sucked and Sam knew that was what was responsible, mostly, for the fact that she wasn't conceiving. It was due to their physiology; women's fertility and mestruation moved on three-month cycles since their aging was so spread out. Without an endless supply of eggs, their fertile years were about the same as humans, with the exception of the fact that menopause occured after thousands of years instead of just fifty. Vampires aged at a rate of one half a century (50 years) to every human year, at least after they reached adulthood, anyway. Compared to the rest of their lives, childhood almost seemed rushed...
The nurse had attempted to explain to her that the doctor was available far before Samantha's requested appointment date but it would do her no good to stroll into the clinic, recieve a treatment and have nothing to fertilize. There was no egg, currently. It worked nicely as a prevention of pregnancy when they were harried college students breaking the campus rules and attempting to avoid a pregnancy, but now that they were adults, it just plain sucked. And yet, all of their hopes and dreams were finally going to come true. She'd done extensive research on both the staff and the clinic itself over the last few months and was more convinced than ever before that this was the perfect opportunity for them. Dr. Ronchas' degrees were exemplary and he had good standing in the community of practitioners; that was especially important to Sam.
Leaving work, she headed downtown to the clinic, eyeing the dress she'd be donning in no time with a smile. Stripping off her lab coat and pulling on her winter coat, she slipped out of the car and stood in front of the small building, waiting for her husband. He'd be there in no time; she could always count on him. While she waited, she uncapped a bottle of blood and washed back a pill that would keep her more alert as the sun rose in the distance.

She never listened to him. Well sometimes she never listened to him. He had told her that she should take the day off...but she had that doctor mentality of 'having to be there for her patients as promised'. He was pretty sure that even if her legs had been whacked off, she'd flip to her hands and make her way to where ever her patients needed her....well, that was a crazy and disturbing image wasn't it? He had wanted her to take the day off so their schedules could line up, or at the very least she could get some sleep. He was home by one and after a brief and futile conversation with her, had gone to catch some sleep for a few hours so he could function somewhat better during the daylight. Horrid sun. He had no idea how she could do it, go straight from work to the clinic. He just bring her some pep pills.
Ah yes, if there was anything to say about science being a Godsend, it came in the form of a pill that was specifically made for the vampires of their types: the kind that could walk in daylight. They lacked the otherworldly power of their strict night brethern, but still had the perks of increased senses and bodily systems. They could eat and drink human things, but also had to substain on blood to stay alive. He figured the fancy things were a good trade in to still have the sun...but it was indeed still the enemy. Made them lethargic and almost incapable of doing anything. Made them irritable and prone to rage...that is all of that without those wonderous little pills.
It was a trial to get himself up before his body wanted to be up...why couldn't she go with his plan? Then they could of gone out like they had the earlier hours, sleep curled up together and then head out. But no...oh well, this way they'd go get this shot thing, come home and get to some sheet play, then sleep the rest of the forsaken day away and all would be well by the night hours again. Thusly up for him and showered and dressed, dragging his suit with him to the car and then headed off to the directions that Sam had by now made him memorize, which was a good thing.
Parking he got himself out and walked up to her, giving her a groggy smile."Even facing the God forsaken sun with worth this isn't it?" Turning his attention and watching as the ball of demon gas was rising...first appointment of the day, and he pulled out his sun glasses, slipping them on. "Got butterflies yet?" Giving a yawn that bared fangs for a moment.

She'd put hers on an hour ago. Even the lightening of the sky and first rays could bother their eyes as sensitive as they were. There were certain lights they just couldn't have around them for the same reason. She finished off the bottle and tossed it into the trash then gave a grin as he appeared. Yes, he looked all sleepy still and it was rather adorable. He'd probably had an easy night too, it being so close to finals and due dates for things.
She reached out and looped a hand through his arm, keeping him and herself steady and pressed a kiss to his cheek. "A little, although I am very confident in this procedure and this particular doctor. Andrea knows him personally, has run into him a few times at conferences and such. She warned me that he's a little strange...but brilliant." The streets were relatively deserted seeing as it was quite early in the human world but Sam rather liked the isolation their nightwalking afforded them. Few crowds and smaller wait times. "Ready?" She tilted her head and lifted his sunglasses, studying his eyes. "Did you take your pill? You're going to need it, Xe."
Thus reaching out and pulling open the door, she swept through. Quick glance around at the clinic and the girl sitting at the desk and she made a few decisions right off the bat. First of all, the girl was not going to help her. Sam was used to interns and secretaries manning desks that just didn't care and wouldn't help you if you were dying right there in front of them. She walked over, glanced over the counter and saw a clipboard, signing her name in. "Samantha and Xearus Calder." Letting the girl know on the off-chance she was actually going to do her job, before she strolled over and settled into one of the chairs.

"It's always the brilliant ones who are a little strange or have some secondary weird thing to them. Or they're serial killers." Giving a grin as he recalled usual criminal profiles in his head for a second. "Yes, I took it. Just needs to kick in more is all. Probably should of had more blood than I did with it too, but I was trying to sleep through worrying about you. You know I hate it when you go straight through into day hours." Shaking his head before giving her a smile. "Ready." Thus into the clinic with them.
He pulled off his sunglasses as he had done so, pocketing them again and looking around the place as Sam signed in names, heading over to chairs to sit and wait. It looked and smelled like any other doctor's office really. A little on the plain rather than extravagent side doctor's usually flaunted but that was okay. He could almost fall back asleep in the quiet, but he knew better. Instead he laced an arm over the back of Sam's chair, pressing a kiss to her temple affectionately...well, this was more or less the last option wasn't it? Better damn work or he would be hunting people out of spite for making his wife cry. "Waiting is always the unberable part in any doctor office..."

Now that she was sitting down and the frenetic pace of the hospital was behind her, she had to admit she did feel weary. Her schedule had been crammed tonight though some of that was her own doing to keep herself busy and not thinking about what would take place later. Reaching over and entwining her fingers with Xe's, she kicked off her heels and curled up in the chair, resting her head on his shoulder and smoothing down her skirt to ensure modesty prevailed.
"I know, Casanova but I had to go in tonight. The Andersons finally gave birth and you know what a troublesome pregnancy that was..." Mostly because it was a surrogate mother for two perfectly willing and lovable males. Paternity issues and an old boyfriend popping up and claiming the child and things had just gotten way out of hand. But that nightmare was over and it was time for her to focus on their dreams. "Yes, but in the end it will be worth it. I promise..." Yawning and pulling her sunglasses off her head, tossing them into the bag that rested by her feet. "I love you..."

He watched her shift about and get herself comfortable for the wait that all patient's had to endure and he shifted to accomodate as well around the armrests of thier pushed together chairs. Idly he mused in his head how funny it would be if they were caught sleeping when it was time for them to head back. It was hard dealing with the sun, but those pills would help keep them awake and in an amiable mood at least. "I know it will be. We deserve our turn." Resting his head on top of hers, fangs nipping at his bottom lip a moment before he settled. "I love you too. No worries. And Sam...even if this doesn't work, we'll keep trying." before a smirk as he reflected on teh clinic and it's...quirk that Sam had researched up. "You know...I'm biologically a twin myself thus they run in the family. So hopefully when this does work we won't get like...four, or something." Chuckling to that as he sought to soothe her with his goofball side as well.

Noah had happened to emerge from the lab and noticed the couple cuddling. After glowering briefly at Selma (who was pointedly ignoring him) for not bothering to tell him the couple had come, he had approached them. He paused for a moment, unsure exactly how to break into their conversation without seeming rude. Luckily the conversation came to a lull, so he didn't have to clear his throat or rely on the awkward cough to get their attention.
Clipboard in hand, he motioned towards the paper they had signed in on, "The Calders, I presume? I'm Doctor Noah Bowen. Doctor Ronchas is away at the moment, so I'll be your doctor today."
The couple looked nervous, and thankfully so. It made Noah feel less stupid for being nervous himself. He offered and awkward smile he hoped looked comforting.

She squeezed his hand lightly, aware of how worried he was about that. She had her misgivings, too. They were vampires...many things weren't tailored for their unique bodies. "I don't think we have to worry about it, Casanova, but we'll ask just to be safe, okay?" Snuggling with him and then blinking sleepily as the doctor came out. "That's us. Pleasure to meet you Dr. Noah Bowen. I'm Sam and this is Xearus." Uncurling her legs, she slipped her feet back into her heels and stood up then offered a hand to Xe. "Come on, Casanova." She could tell he was nervous and wondered if this was his first day or something. "We're ready when you are."

"Of course you would ask." But it seemed that the dreaded waiting part was over seeing as they were approached and given a name that was all too familiar, at least by title. Taking Sam's hand he got himself up and gave a nod to the clipboard toting man. "Pleased to meet you Dr. Bowen." Briefly he wondered if Sam was going to throw one of her 'specification fits' but decided he'd just help out this time if she did...help the victim that is. "Lead on then."

"Okay then, if you have any questions or concerns, please address them right away. Just follow me into the office and I';ll get you started. Once you're sure about everything, there will be some paperwork to fill out. It's nothing much though." Noah glanced down at the clipboard again, then led the couple to the door behind the receptionist.
They entered a decently sized room which looked just like any other doctor's office. Of course, this one would have an enormous impact on their lives. Leafing through a lone file cabinet in the back, Noah pulled out a manila folder with the couples' names on it.
"Doctor Ronchas didn't leave me any information on you two, so I'm going to assume you know all the basics about this clinic. Are there any concerns, or shall we begin?"

Sam decided to give the doctor a chance and see just how competent he was. If he proved to be under the needed level then she'd say something and take it from there. But it had taken a while to get this appointment and she didn't want to throw it away on something as simple as not seeing the head doctor. Walking with Xe, she settled into one of the chairs, scanning over the office which was nearly a carbon copy of many of the ones in her hospital.
He had no info on them? That could be a good or bad thing. Settling into one of the chairs, she reached over and took Xe's hand, "I think our biggest concern is the fact that we're vampires. Has the procedure been tried on any of our kind before or are we the guinea pigs? I do know that Dr. Ronchas has successfully impregnated a few other species already. Also, what if this doesn't work? Are we guaranteered another attempt for the initial price or do we have to find another way? And is it guaranteed twins or could a triplet or two sets emerge from this process? Are there any special procedures we need to be aware of throughou this process? Does it matter which doctor we see for checkups?" The doctor in her was emerging again, all sorts of questions.
Giving the man a smile, she realized she was probably overwhelming him. "I'm sorry. I know that's a lot of things to answer... I've done my research on the basics but anything after the initial shot was given was confidential."

He sat down next to her, tapping his fingers ont eh armrest in his own anticipation. Hm, no information...well that was interesting. Though he supposed that was also best...people did tend to make up bad rumors and what not when it came to people like them. Or rather creatures. Bah fairy tale and campfire stories. Well, Sam just came right out with it didn't she?
He chuckled lightly as she apologized for herself and then smiled lightly at the doctor. "Let's start back at the beginning. Yes we're vampires, but not vampires in the traditional sense. We drink blood and have enhanced senses...but as you can clearly see, we're able to be out in the daylight and we lack all the supernatural hocus pocus in books." Now that that was covered he felt better.
"Now that that is out in the air, feel free to take as much time as you need on her other questions...she just loves indepth knowlege." Giving his wife a smile and slightly fanged grin.

Vampires? Well that was new to him. Noah knew his eyebrows had visibly raised when Samantha told him, but it didn't shock him as much as he would've thought. After all, one of his co-workers wasn't human either, and several other clients were of differing species. Of all of them, however, vampires surely had the most notorious reputation.
Truthfully, the sudden torrent of questions caught him more off guard than the news of being vampires. Noah hesitated, trying to work the answers in an intelligible fashion. In the pause, Xearus decided to fill him in on their specifics -and he was greatful for it. Gaia, naturally, had a lots of different species, and even within those there were many differences. Knowing the couple's specific (and relevant) information would be helpful. Noah nodded, "I see. That will make a lot of things in the future easier, I believe. Appointments especially."
Confident of his answers now, Noah addressed Samatha's plentiful questions carefully, "Clientelle-wise, you will be the first vampire couple." He shied away from the term "guinea pigs", but in reality, they very well might be the first ones it was tried on.
"However, there have been no ill effects on any species that had undergone this procedure, and the percentage of failed innseminations is so incredibly low that it is practically unheard of. In the extremely rare case that it doesn't work, we will continue to try to help you in anyway possible, including another attempt," Noah smiled at the couple. He understood that this clinic could be the only chance the couple would have for conceiving a child, and Noah wanted them to leave happy. It was a shame so many people couldn't have children on their own, but Noah was greatful that he could at least help them.
"We have only ever had twins emerge from this. More than that may occur, but the chance is extremely rare, even with the genetics of the parents involved," he paused for a moment, as if racking his thoughts for anything else she may've asked, "There are no special procedures, assuming you want to have children the usual way. If you don't want to carry the child, or if, ah, your husband wants to carry them.. well that's when special procedures come in."
Holding up the manila folder emblazoned with the couples' names, Noah shook his head lightly, "Doesn't matter which of the medical staff you see after this appointment. If you choose to go through with this, the first thing you'll do is fill out paperwork. It's all medical information on yourselves and anything from your family which may be genetic. Whichever person you see, they will have all the information they need to know because of it. There will be records in the future regarding your children as well. Of course, if you'd prefer a specific employee to see you each time, I'm sure that can be arranged. Doctor Ronchas and I are the only doctors at the clinic, but we have three very capable nurses as well."
"So, unless you have more questions or have decided against the procedure, we have some paperwork to get to."

She rather appreciated both Xe's attempt to explain a few things as well as Dr. Bowen's slow, methodical way of maneuvering through her questions. He gave each one the full attention it deserved and she gave him a silent check of approval in her mind. She squeezed Xe's hand leaning over to give him a quick kiss then turned her attention back to the doctor.
"And that is what truly makes Dr. Ronchas' procedure, research, and serum extraordinary." Her scientific interest was immediately piqued as he questioned whether or not Xearus would be the carrier and she longed to begin to grill the doctor on the procedure. She knew it had something to do with artificially creating a womb but also knew that the natural environment inside a woman was the best for the child to gestate within. "No, Xearus wants me to bear all the weight and get fat." Giving him a grin so he knew she was teasing and becoming professional again.
"Actually, I may be getting certain checkups and things at my own hospital. More convenient, you understand." She had the utmost respect for nurses and knew that most of them were just as competent as doctors so that wouldn't be a problem. If one proved to be otherwise, then she'd deal with it at that time. "I do believe that assuages my curiosity and concerns quite nicely. "Thank you, Dr. Bowen. Now, about that paperwork because I assure you we haven't changed our minds."
She divided the stack in half, handing the bottom half to Xe and taking to filling out the top. She'd long ago memorized all their information and efficiently filled in her squares, lines, and boxes then signed the bottom form. "Ready when you are."

Those little quick kisses meant good things were going on in her head and she was pleased with the way things were going. He did give a laugh though that was half amused and indeed half nervous to her words, "Not fat Cielo...puffy with life. Remember, puffy with life. I'm afraid I'd whine far too much...besides I teach college students...do you want a baby using me as a house hearing that all day?" They could be quite horrible young people when it came to lanuage and what not.
"Sam's an OBGYN too, so she's not hopeless in the knowledge." He was always filling in the little details...he liked it though. "Though might as well be flattered to be first in line for our specific line of gene-pool. And even if she wants to use her own, I'll drag her in here for the important ones...she's not used to needing a doctor of her own." Shaking his head in that lovingly amused fashion before taking papers and working on them. His flowing signature joined hers on the form and the whole stack was brough together again neatly before being handed back to the doctor. "Was ready years ago." And he knew she was too.
