Okay, i didn't find this out until yesterday, but naruto's mother is Kushina (Kushina means nine goods) Uzumaki from the whirlpool village. When she was younger, she and a blunt, tom-boyish attitude ( that's where Naruto got his deamor). It is said that Naruto's choices with ninjustu resembles his mothers, though his appearance resembles his father. It is not known, if she is dead or not.

The whirlpool village isn't really addressed much at all...it's just like a tidbit when Jiraiya and Tsunade are talking about how Naruto is similar to his parents. It's really cute to see Jiraiya and Tsunade talk about it. xp

well how could naruto be born without a mom? And this is not made up, in was in one of the manga's chapters for naruto shippuuden.

Read the manga, Naruto's parents have both been revealed. His mother was Kushina from the Whirlpool village and his father was (should be obvious by now) Yondaime (the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze). It came up in a conversation between Tsunade and Jiraiya right before Jiraiya went to fight Pain.
