Message to G.I Joe Fans

Hasbro’s G.I. Joe Team wanted to take this opportunity to clarify some of the facts regarding the G.I. Joe live-action movie that we are developing with Paramount Pictures.

First and foremost, we are not changing what the G.I. Joe brand is about. The name “G.I. Joe” will always be synonymous with bravery and heroism.

The G.I. Joe brand has enjoyed a successful 43-year history, spanning two key generations. The first was the line of 12-inch “realistic military” figures that were popular with kids in the 1960s and 1970s.

The second generation, was created in 1982, and is based on a cast of fictional heroes and villains that make up the “G.I. Joe vs. Cobra” fantasy. The premise of this fantasy is the story of the G.I. Joe team, led by Duke, and their “fight for freedom wherever there is trouble” against the evil Cobra Commander and his Cobra force. This storyline was an instant hit with kids in the early 1980s, spawning a highly popular 3-3/4-inch action figure line, comic book collection and animated series.

This movie will be a modern telling of the “G.I. Joe vs. Cobra” storyline and its compelling characters that Hasbro created 25 years ago. The G.I. Joe team will not be based in Brussels. Instead, they will be based out of the “Pit” as they were throughout the 1980s comic book series. And, in keeping with the G.I. Joe vs. Cobra fantasy, the movie will feature characters and locations from around the world. Duke, the lead character and head of the G.I. Joe team, will embody the values of bravery and heroism that the first generation of G.I. Joe figures established.

G.I. Joe is a very important property to Hasbro and we thank all of our fans for their enthusiasm. Without all of you, the brand would not be where it is today.

Thank you.

G.I. Joe, The Real American Hero, is being prepped for a live-action film. Based on the G.I. Joe Versus Cobra stories and with an anticipated August 7, 2009 release date, principal photography begins mid-February (can't back this up). The shooting script was completed before the writer's strike, so no worries there, and it's been full-steam ahead since Transformers' unprecedented success, which allowed Joe (another Hasbro property) to be green-lit without a second thought.

But, some good news and some bad news.

BAD NEWS

It's directed by Steven Sommers

I will quote my friend on this one

It's directed by Steven Sommers, the bleep responsible for writing/directing the Mummy films and Van Helsing. Thankfully he's not writing this time around, but still, there's not a single writer, director or producer credit on his imdb page make me think he's got even an iota of talent in his body. Oh well.

At least Sienna Miller is in it, so it wont be a complete sausage fest.

well I am hoping that it will at least protray two of the teams female members, with Scarlett and Lady Jaye being the most likely. Mind you I would not say they wouldnt put in Jinx or Covergirl.

So it's actually not based in Brussels? That is actually a relief.
I still have a horrible feeling that it'll be some sort of Mission Impossible horrible thing. gonk

wouldnt a telling of their first mission be great though. Like start the movie with the introduction of the orginal team then move to their first mission. Then go to teh hospital when snake eyes gets the mask. dont know about you but that sounds like a decent opener to me.

It'll be like Transformers and every other crappily written Hollywood film based on an existing story out there. The plot will be vaguely based on the story, but be something completely different and cliche, and prolly there will be something in there about some kid that completely saves the world, despite the bumbling of the trained professionals. They did it with Transformers, and I'm completely pessimistic about the movie.
And everything else. Optimism is for losers. domokun

Park is a rather good stuntman. 3nodding And, he rocked as Darth Maul, so I'm confident that he'll do Snakes justice.
