Koorie was in the lounge area, her violin next to her, and her music sheets in front of her. While she hadn't wanted to be in the confinements of her room, she didn't want to go outside where people would bug her. In a compromise, she had moved herself to the lounge and opened one of the small windows to let air through.
She gently set her violin down on the couch and side, closing her eyes and took a deep breath. She had written new lyrics after her exercise and shower and decided she would attempt to put a tune to it. Her voice floated softly through the air in a sad, mellow song.
"Please, please forgive me, But I won't be home again. Maybe someday you'll look up, And, barely conscious, you'll say to no one: "Isn't something missing?"
You won't cry for my absence, I know - You forgot me long ago. Am I that unimportant...? Am I so insignificant...? Isn't something missing? Isn't someone missing me?"
Her voice faded off and she stared at the ceiling in silence.

Whether or not she'd intended to do so, Koorie had failed to shut the lounge door completely. Either she'd tried and not noticed, or simply hadn't cared if it was open or not, the door had drifted open, allowing her voice to carry lightly down the hallway, catching the ear of a certain security guard.
Unable to ignore his curiosity, as well as something more that urged him on to find out what poor soul expressed such sorrow so beautifully, he crept closer to the lounge door, careful not to make a sound. Daring only the briefest glance around the doorframe, his eyes opened wide and he quickly ducked back out of sight.
Had she seen him? Heard him? Hayden froze, mind racing with the possibilities. Despite their lukewarm, if one could even call it that, parting, he wasn't exactly comfortable about the idea of another encounter with Koorie. Somehow, he didn't think it'd be a very warm reception or exchange.
Nevertheless...he still had his regrets. No matter what had transpired between the two of them last time, he knew he'd said and done things he regretted even now. Sighing softly, he rubbed his eyes and shook his head slowly.
Wuss.
Shut up.
It was only right. Even if she didn't want to listen or accept it...
Clearing his throat nervously, Hayden stepped into the doorway again. "Ms. Shizuku?" He opted for the polite stance, hoping he'd get a chance to at least try to speak before she decided to take his head off. Either literally or figuratively. "I hope you are well?"
He cringed internally at the last word, knowing all too well how hollow it sounded. All the more reason to rush ahead with what he wanted to say.
"Err...I'd hoped to offer an apology for my behavior the other day. It was...completely uncalled for."
Not completely. The b***h started it, you know.
Shut up. Isn't she going through enough? Or will be...

Koorie slowly looked at Hayden's direction, but it was almost as if she wasn't quite there. She closed her eyes, and reopened them, fully focused on him now.
"What do you care. I've gone through worse, that's for sure. What you've put me through the other day was nothing compared to the majority of my life....."
She was to tired to kill him, as much as she wanted to. Hell, her muscles were still screaming at her from today's little exercise.
"Besides, you knew damn well I wasn't going to be able to go back to my life, and you still brought me here...."
She glared at him, her eyes full of ice and loathing, directed mostly at him. The b*****d owed her at least an explanation of what was going on here, and what was going to happen to her.

The problem is that I DO care...
...hell if I know why though.
So many things Hayden wanted to shoot back. About how he hadn't brought her here. About how she was the one so insistent on coming here herself. About how he'd tried to warn her, even risking his own...
But, instead he said nothing, only staring back sadly. Granted, he met her furious gaze when many would have looked away, but it wasn't with equal fury or anger as it might have been before. Simply...sadness...guilt...pity...a multitude of emotions he'd never hope to be able to express, let alone to her.
Still, he was a bit surprised she'd figured it out so quickly. How did she know she'd never leave this place again?
"I...I'm sorry. I'm sorry for my part in all this. I didn't want...I mean, I had no ch--"
He bit back the stammering words, realizing he sounded pathetic. He certainly felt like it. He waged a silent war in his mind, needing to say something more, but not knowing what words to use that wouldn't sound like yet another empty excuse.
Why had he let this one, of all of them, get to him like this? Maybe...it was because she was the only one that managed to actually get under his skin. Enough so that he almost lost it. Almost...became one of them. And it scared him, right to the core.
And did you think you were immune? Face it...after enough time, anyone would start changing. Adapting to fit in. Even in a den of Mightyena. Gotta' survive, right?
But at what cost?

Koorie's resolve hardened even more. "Right, because I'm so damn gullible that I"m going to believe that you had no choice in the matter. Of course you couldn't have told me I was screwed, heaven forbid you lose your job over it."
Gently, she fingered the bow of her violin, which was sitting next to her. Her cold gaze never left Hayden. It surprised her that he was holding back emotions, but she still didn't trust him. Something about him was just pushing her emotionally wise, and she hated it. She didn't need to feel emotions, and the sooner she could figure it out, the better.
"I suppose it doesn't matter any more, there will be nothing that can change this. What exactly is going on here anyways...?"

"There's more at risk than my f#&$in' jo--" Dammit, he'd snapped again. Biting back his statement, he fought with an odd mixture of anger and embarrassment, finally giving in to the shame, though not so much at his outburst as something else...
None of her business.
Damn straight.
Not sure whether to be relieved or alarmed that the normally-arguing voices were agreeing on something, Hayden simply stared back for a few minutes. Why in all hell did he insist on coming back in here? He could have just continued on his way, going about his own business without dealing with any of this nonsense. And now...things were taking a turn for the worst possible situation.
Wonderful.
Wasn't life grand?
Even if he wanted to tell her anything, and with his past history with Koorie and her attitude, he wasn't sure he wanted to...he couldn't. There was too much at risk. And yet...he didn't have to tell her, did he?
Sighing tiredly, he glanced around to remind himself of any security cameras in the area. None in sight, but that didn't mean they weren't here somewhere. Crossing his arms, he leaned back against the doorframe in what he hoped was a seemingly-casual manner.
"You're right. Nothing we can do now will change anything. Destiny moves as consistently as a Charizard's flame..." He was speaking riddles now, hoping she might pick up on the fact that he couldn't speak clearly even if he wanted to. "But then again, who's to say what the weather holds for tomorrow. Only the Castform may know for sure."
From what he'd picked up on so far, Koorie was no fool. If anyone in this place were to figure this out, she might be able to. She certainly had the determination for it.
"Rain Dance may bring showers and gloom, but...if the Solrock brings about a Sunny Day, however, perhaps the Pidgey may still sing..." Hayden shot Koorie an enigmatic smirk.
Come on...tell me what you already know. Even if I can't talk, I can tell you if you're right or not...

Koorie leaned forward, drawn in with Hayden's outburst about there being more at stake. "Do mind you mouth...." She closed her eyes, thinking deeply, as Hayden spoke in those riddles. Her mind was raging around, arguing with her on if she should really ask him for help.
'Don't do it, that b*****d lied to you....'
'Yes, but maybe there was a good reason. Maybe if you're somewhat decent to him, he'll actually tell you some valuable information. Besides, it's not HIS fault he's stumbled on the right buttons to push.'
'Why HAS he found those buttons? I never even knew they existed.... It worries me that being around him, he will break what little sanity I've got my fingers wrapped around...But, I suppose I have to trust him, since the other guards probably won't tell me, except for 'a price'...'
Koorie opened her eyes a few minutes after the riddles and let go of the violin bow that she realized she was gripping quite hard. Gently, she moved her precious instrument from the second seat of the couch onto the table. The fact that she wasn't out to kill him meant that the hours of exercise and the long shower afterwards had done their job to calm her.
"I need some feed back on this song I'm thinking about writing...." Casually, she gestured to the seat next to her, then began to write on her journal book in neat cursive.
Can you answer my questions this way, via writing? I don't want to have to deal with stupid riddles right now, it's been a long day.
Are we being watched? I don't see any cameras anywhere, and are they only in certain rooms?
What did you mean by that there was more at risk than your job?'
Placing the pencil down on the journal, she waited to see if Hayden was going to sit or not.

"Sorry," Hayden muttered in response to his outburst of cursing earlier. Since when had he started doing that anyway? Yet another example of why he needed to start watching his mouth and what tried to slip out. His attention peaked at the sudden change in subject, though he expected there really was no change. Only a method of communication. No way she really wanted his help with song writing. "Sure," he answered casually, adding a shrug for good measure as he crossed the room. "I spent a little time in a band in college..." He hesitated momentarily before taking a seat next to her. He'd not been this close to her without physical violence ensuing, but at the same time, there was conspiring to be done. He'd have to take what opportunities presented themselves to get information out safely if he could. Otherwise, all was lost. His time was likely growing short as it was, especially with his recent furtive actions to attempt a plan of getting Karen out of here. It'd be nice if he could get more than just one out... His eyes darted over the neat script, quickly processing their meaning and forming his response. "Alright, let's see, this line here...the rhyme scheme..." He picked up the pencil to respond, barely paying any attention to what he was actually saying, since that was only a ruse for any cameras or microphones hidden in the room. His handwriting wasn't nearly as neat as Koorie's, but it was easily legible and that was all that counted. I should be able to. And that's fine with me. I'm really not up to keeping that up for an entire conversation.
Yes. At all times. At least, it's safest to assume that, as they could be watching from anywhere and we'd never know. Anywhere that...let's call you 'guests'...can venture, there's the risk of cameras and/or microphones. He hesitated a bit before answering her last question. Finally... Let's just say that CRONUS is skilled at finding your weakness, whatever it takes to convince you to do something, then holding it over your head. I'm assuming they promised you something for working here, a temporary job, right? Yeah, right. And I'm a Charizard. They promise you one thing to get you in here...then they drop the noose over your head once you're in their grasp. There's little you can do once it starts to tighten... He set the pencil down, struggling to keep his mind on the ruse. "So yeah, just a couple suggestions for other lines," he offered weakly, glancing sideways towards Koorie, an eerie look in his eyes. He couldn't believe he was doing this...rebelling so blatently in front of the cameras... And yet, considering what else he'd been up to lately, was this any worse? Not hardly. He could already feel the phantom noose tightening, threatening to close off his air supply...

Koorie smiled beninely as she too the journal back from Hayden. Looking over his responce, she nodded. "I see where you're going with this... this makes a lot more sence, but the rhym scheme is off. I was thinking something a little more like this....."
She frowned, seemingly concentraiting, as she wrote.
You need to keep a more confidant face, or they will know that something is happening.
If I'm technically working here, couldn't I just announce my departure? Say, for example, quit? Besides, I don't have a weakness. I don't have a person I'm close to, and my family can go to hell for all I could give a rattata's a** for.
What exactly is going on here? I didn't ask what research was going on, because I figured I would be told when I was assigned a job. "Here, tell me what you think of this...." She passed the journal back to him, nudging him hard in the ribs to get the uneasy look off of his face.

"Ah, right...right..." Hayden forced a smile, even going so far as to laugh a bit. "Yeah, it's been a while since I've done this. I'm still pretty rusty. Though, even rusty, collaberations can still be helpful." Taking the journal, he read and nodded seemingly thoughfully for a moment before joting more 'notes.' Technically, though that's probably just a cover story. If you're not actually working here and they haven't given you a job yet, then I'm assuming you got the 'we'll get back to you in a few days' story. Don't expect to see them again. Especially not Dr. Hakan. Good luck ever finding that S.O.B. again.
So yeah, likely, you're a 'guest' like the others. You're welcome to try quitting if you'd like, but don't expect much in the way of results. You'll probably get some sort of evasive response and ignored again.
Everyone has some weakness. They'll find it.
That's....a little more complicated. Eyes darting furtively towards the door, Hayden swore he could have heard someone outside just now. No, probably just his paranoid imagination.

Koorie frowned even more as she read Hayden's words. This troubled her greatly, and it was evidant. Her eyes glanced to the door when Hayden's eyes wandered.
Her hand writing became more messy as she wrote faster on the paper. "I don't like how that looks.... Here, lets add another line to it..."
Don't worry about if someone walks in, I'll eat the pages if I have to. I know that we'll both be in trouble if they find out what we're doing.
Tell me what is going on, I have a right to know, if I was dragged into this unawares and I'm involved in something I clearly don't want to be in.
She passed the journal back to Hayden, looking him right in the eyes. Her gaze was gold and grim, and it demanded answeres. "We can keep this up all day, I gaurinty we won't run out of paper...." She smirked a little, telling him silently that he was going to tell her all the answers if he liked it or not.

If this were a cartoon, Hayden would have been sweating bullets by this point. He really did not want to be the one responsible for spilling the whole story to the subjects, not only because of the possible retaliation either. Even if he didn't want to though, it was too late now. He reached for the journal again, mumbling yet another song-writing-related excuse for any possible witnesses. His writing was enough to betray his nervousness. There are a lot of things going on here, even some of the legitimate stuff they advertise to the public. Money has to come from somewhere, right?
I'm sure what you're concerned with is the not-so-legal portion that concerns you and the others, however. I'm sorry...I wish I could have done more. I've been trying, but...
Don't shoot the messenger and keep your expression neutral or we're in for worse than you can possibly imagine.
The long story short is experimentation. Genetic experimentation. Eyes darted towards the door once more out of habit. They're moving fast, too fast this time. There's nothing I could do to stop them, though as long as we're still alive, there's hope. Doesn't mean I can't do something though... He stopped writing, watching Koorie for a reaction. He hoped he hadn't misplaced his trust in the young woman. Sure, she hated him...but, that hate extended to all of CRONUS if he wasn't mistaken. She couldn't be a mole...there was no way. She wouldn't betray him to the others. Would she? No. She couldn't. She was her own side, from what he could see. She wouldn't side with these lowlifes anymore than she'd side with him. Of course, he also hoped she had enough self-control not to betray what he'd just told her with a reaction.

Koorie clentched her teeth, reading Hayden's writing. This.. couldn't be real, it had to be something out of a fairy tale, or something. Her hands shooke very slightly as she took the pencil, writing a single sentence on the paper.
What kind of genetic experimentation....
Not like it would matter what happened to her. She had no family or close friends that would care about her absence, and her band was stricktly business. They would replace her, she was sure of it.
She also felt anger bubbling up inside her, but she shook her head. As much as she wanted to direct it at Hayden, it wasn't right. Sure, he could have stoped her from this mistake, but she probably would have ignored him anyways. She had no one to blame but herself, and CRONUS... namely that weasly doctor she delt with.

While he could sense her immediate fury, Hayden was relieved that Koorie didn't show more of a reaction. They'd have both been pretty much screwed in that case. He wouldn't be any good to anyone. "Alright, now, about this chorus," he continued muttering, knowing how important it was they keep up the act. Genetic manipulation. Completely on the cellular level. DNA re-writing. I don't know all the details and I can't explain everything right now, but let's leave it at they've made improvements this time and I'm not sure whether to be relieved or afraid of the fact that they may succeed this time around. Even if there was no sign of anyone catching on to what they were up to, Hayden felt as if the ceiling and walls were closing in, trapping the guard with his betrayal. Though, if he'd never actually been 'loyal' persay to CRONUS, was it really 'betrayal?' Either way, his notes were getting shorter and more to the point, as if afraid of being discovered.

Koorie sighed and looked down at his responce, feeling almost a hopeless, empty emotion in her.
They've already gotten me as well, haven't they....
If they weren't going to see her again, and weren't going to let her leave, then chances were she'd already had this treatment, and was under observation.
She was at a lost at what to do, completely confused. She COULD try to escape with Samantha....but she'd have no place to go. Meanwhile, here, she had a future as a test subject for something involving her DNA changing and heaven knows what those side effects could be.
"I really don't know what to do.... with that chorus." She hastily added on that last part, not wanting Hayden to see her confusion as she slipped the journal back to him.
