These blind hands grope for the light
"And that concludes out lecture for today..." the low droll of the Professor's voice had almost put Alice to sleep, just as it had done to many of her classmates. However, she had managed to pull through, and she was also just one of the few students who risked sitting in the front row of the Lecture Hall. It was not that the teacher bit or anything of the like. No. It was just that some people wanted to sleep after pulling off long all nighters trying to study and cram for an exam. Alice on the other hand, did not have to pull all nighters, she was already insomniac. It helped a lot in this situation, but not in the situation at home. Once the Professor had let them out, Alice had bolted from the room. She did not want to socialize with anyone from her class. All they did was wait until her back was turned, and then they would laugh and ridicule her for already being in graduate school.

From one hell to another. Today was one of those days which Alice was able to go home early; an opportunity which Alice took to its fullest. The sun was still out, and her father should be at work. That being noted mid-way through her class, Alice knew that home would be a safe place, and even safer still when her brother got home. One of the places which Alice detested almost more then anything else, was the place where she had to call home. She was under aged and was not able to financially support herself just yet. All she had to do was hold out for one more semester and then she would be able to submerse herself into her research. It was strange though. Alice was not too sure what she was trying to search for. A cure for some disease, 'work on it' the man had said. Exactly what that was, she was not too sure. It was almost as if she was blindly doing her work. Well, that was all she was pretty much doing. Like a veil was placed over her eyes and she was lead on by hands whom she was not sure if she could trust or not. Hopefully, she was not researching some sort of virus. That would have been against everything which she believed in. With a sigh, Alice continued on walking to the bicycle stand. She made sure that no one would see her arriving on her bike, so that she would still have tires by the end of the day. They were still there just for her to use. Tossing her books into the basket and then releasing her bike from the stand which it was held up by, she began her lonesome ride home.

Home. There was no one there at the moment. The low lighting of the place caused her to feel just a bit sick. 'Light' she thought to herself, groping along the walls to find the light switch. Though she was more accostumed to the darkness of the house, she did not want to be left alone in the dark. The dark was a great place to hid, and today, she did not feel like hiding behind its welcoming mask. Finding the lightswitch, she flicked it on and tossed the books and bags from the basket of her bicycle to the floor of her room. "Oreos." she said, smiling pleasantly to herself. Crossing back to the kitchen she searched through the cupboards and the fridge to find a package of oreos, a glass of milk, and sprinkles. Blissfully alone, she sat in her chair, listening to the silence of the house as she dumped some sprinkles into her milk, watching amused as they floated up to the top of the cup. It was almost like a dead body a few ... was it days or hours after death? A few of the sprinkles sunk straight down to the bottom of the cup. Taking out one of the oreos, she used it to swirl the sprinkles in a little spiral. A little spiral blending into the milk and making it into a strange color. The colors from the sprinkles weren't exactly mixing in with one another, but instead stayed their own colors. Stopping her control of the little playthings, she scooped up a few of them with her soaked oreo and bit into it. As always it filled her mouth with a sugary delight. Sighing to herself, she poked herself in the stomach. Both her brother and her were rather skinny. It was due to the fact that both of them did not cook very well, and there was not enough food in the house anyhow. Their food choices were cheap and therefore weren't very healthy. Most of the money which their father was suppose to provide them with went to his habits of drinking and smoking. Two habits which repulsed her and made her cringed every time he passed by. But that was just another thing which caused her to dislike her father. Alice was able to eat -for free- at the cafeteria at the medical school, but Mark, he had to fend for himself, he was probably much more on the unheathy side then her. All this was coming from a Medical School student as well.

Finishing the last of the milk, she washed the cup and put away the half eaten package of oreos. Tying up her hair to keep it out of her face, she began to stare at her textbooks, slowly absorbing the information which she was suppose to be fusterated with. These types of things came easy to her. Inside of her head, they just seemed to click together and formed the perfect formula. But this thing that she was suppose to be working on in the labs, that was fusterating. She had no idea what she was suppose to be curing. If she was knowing what she was suppose to be finding the cure for -like HIV AIDs, or a cancer of sorts- she would have an easier time figuring the chemical formulas which she was trying to reach. But no. She was just given this stack of papers and a pat on the back -well a shove- into this lab which she had no idea exsisted. It was a rather strange thought.

Sighing to herself, she had been so submersed into reading and thinking, that she did not hear the door slam close, nor did she hear footsteps approaching her desk. It wasn't until she smelled the foul stench did she realized that she was too late to save herself. "Hello there my pretty murderess." the gruff voice came along with rough hands searching her very person. "Get.. Get off." she said meekly, giving a soft whimper when his hands enclosed around her wrists. "Please... Please don't..." but habit and the nulling effects of the alcohol cause him not to heed her words. "Clarissa" he said, causing her blood to run cold. "I'm not-" his foul mouth crushed hers, "you insolant b***h!" he hissed at her, yanking her out of her chair with ease. Struggling with him, but not getting anywhere with her frailing about. Forcing her onto the master bedroom bed with ease, he silenced her cries with a heavy hand over her mouth.

He smelled like gunpowder, a smell in which he did not enjoy smelling like at all, but he smelled like it for the majority of the day. "Stupid government jobs" he mumbled before getting into his car. A 2003 Toyota.... Car. It was a dark midnight blue. Turning the car on, he shifted the gear to reverse and started to drive home. Zoning out on his way home, he idly wondered what would happen if the police pulled him over, if he ever was caught speeding or if he was running an 'orange' light. Well, something between a green light and a red light. An orange light. Wasn't he brillant? Well, no. His sister was, he had no idea why the government wanted him. Something about knowing his stuff and what he was doing. Yeah right. On the way home he stopped by In and Out and got a shake and fries. Sure his job paid pretty well, but it was one of those things where he did not really care about. His health. Alice was the one that was in charge of that, for the both of them. In the bottom of his stomach he had this sickening feeling that something bad was going to happen, or that something bad was happening at the moment. Pah, feelings, who needed them. But these were the feelings that haunted him almost every year. At random times as well. It use to get so bad that he felt like kneeling over and vomiting, but now, he had managed to surpress that feeling into a small and little stomachache, one that was growing into a larger sickness. Driving a bit faster, he decided to hurry home as fast as he could, without getting a ticket.

A few minutes later, he reached home. That was strange, his father was home before him, and Alice was home as well. Getting out of the car in a hurried fashion, he unlocked the door and went to his room. That was weird, he heard a low shuffling noise from the inside of his father's room. "Alice?" he asked of his sister, poking his head into her room. s**t, she wasn't in her room but her belongings which she normally had were in the room, plus her desk lamp was still on. Running into his room, he grabbed the cloest knife which he could grab and ran to his father's room. "Aww cumz on Darling..." his father was speaking in a drunken stupor, on top of a very familiar shape. Alice. Her long sleeved shirt was torn and on the floor, her shirt was on its way of coming off, and her pants were unbuttoned. "<********>" he said, realizing that the sickening feelings that he had been getting when he was just fine was because of his sister. Alice, the one person whom he cared about was in trouble and he had been ignoring it constantly, and had even dimmed it down? How could he?

Pulling his father off of Alice, he laid a punch across the man's face. How the hell could he have been doing this to Alice? Was this only the first time? Was there many more times? How could Alice live through this and not even tell him? Damnit was was this girl so- she was his sister, no.. His twin. And he had ignored the fact that she was being hurt. Was this why she always drew back and away from their father when they crossed in the hallways? Damn him. Sweeping the drunken b*****d's legs from out and underneath him, he fell to the floor laying down with a stupid smile on his face. "Whatcha gunno does ti me timez Clariiisssa" he had said it with a hissing sound attached to the "S." "I'm going to do what you did to her. I'm going to send you to your grave." he said, channeling all of his energy into his stabbing motion. Again and again. Feeling all of his hatered dulling down the knife. The pounding within his head getting louder and louder, until a soft voice called out to him and reassuring arms wrapped around him. "Please.. Stop..." Alice mumbled through bitter tears holding onto her brother as he plunged the knife into his father one last time. "Alice... why didn't you tell me?" he asked soflty, looking down, looking down at her arms. Damn, she had the same bad habits as he did. Trying to speak to her and looking down at her face, Mark saw that Alice had passed out from exhaustion. Picking her and his knife up, he walked back to his room and locked the door -just in case he had not done a good enough job. Flipping through his equipment and his papers, he searched for Tristan's phone number. It was just around dinner time for many people, about six at night, surely Tristan would pick up his phone. Dialing the number, he waited for his brother's voice before he spoke, "Tristan, this is Mark and Alice... We're in deep s**t." and then Mark proceeded to tell Tristan of the events which had just happened, as he paced around his room and got Alice in another sweater. No need in worrying Tristan about something else.

But they've only found hope.

Hurry Hurry down the rabbit holeUser Image

"Okay, but I'm driving my own car and following after yours." he said closing the cell phone and looked over at Alice. Sighing to himself, he shook his head at his younger sister. What was he to do about her? She couldn't continue her habit, and yet he couldn't stop his. First thing was first, how to get rid of the body. Making sure that Alice was comfortable before he left the room, he took a knife with him and proceeded back to the father's room. Picking up the legs of the body, he dragged his father's body from his room into the kitchen. he left the body there to be dealt with later. Walking back to his room, after making sure that the body would not move any more, he took off his bloodied clothes and pants and after washing his hands and face, he threw on a clean and loose outfit. Tossing his shoes in the same pile as the clothes, he put on another pair. It was never a crime to be too careful. Though he did not want to, he had too. Mark re-buttoned his sister's pants and took of her shirt. As quickly as he had taken it off, he tackled another on onto her. Lucky for him, she began to come to after he had tugged down the shirt and therefor would not start calling him strange names. "Alice..." he said softly, wrapping his sister into his arms, "I'm so sorry that you had to live through that, I'm so sorry that I was unable to help you... But now Alice, whatever you do don't go into the kitchen... Wash your hands and change your shirt -Sorry about that... I tried to change it...- and start throwing things in boxes. We're going to live with Tristan now, and well... At least getting to and from school will be shorter right?" he mumbled letting go of his sister to allow her to do her own things while he did his.

Alice nodded her head, and went into her room, noticing that the shirt that she was wearing was one of Mark's, but it was a bit bloodied. walking into the bathroom that the two of them shared, she noticed the pile of bloody clothes in the corner and tossed off what she was wearing, washed her hands throughly and then shrugged on some new clothes. Pulling out boxes, she began to throw -neatly- her clothes, her books, her laptop, school supplies, important documents, research papers, art supplies, camera, charger, cash, and a few other important things. Sighing to herself, she picked up the knife which she had borrowed from her brother and tucked it into the front pocket of her pants. Walking back into the room, she quietly took his car keys and her boxes and walked to the car. On the way to the front door of the house, she made sure not to look into the kitchen. What was there that her brother did not want her to see? Though curiosity was clawing at her, she would not satisfy her need to look into the dimly lit room. Opening up the trunk, she tossed the boxes into the clear space of the trunk and contemplated for a second. What was she suppose to bring if she was leaving a place and never coming back to it? She still needed to bring her textbooks, but aside from that, she wasn't sure. Walking back into the house, she took the picture of her, her mother, and Mark from off of the wall, and decided that it was best to find old collective memories of their lives in this house that had very little to do with their father. Finishing up with putting her things in the car, she walked back into the house and called out to Mark, "I'll wait for you in the car... I have your keys with me." Before exiting the house for the last time.

Concentrating on throwing his things together, he figured that he would have issues with throwing his artillery into boxes. The work-related things would have to go in of course, and that was just the majority of his weaponry. Putting those in first, carefully, he then began to throw in his clothes. Boxes were dedicated to his clothes, books, cash, important documents, sleeping bags, journals, writings, research, and other things. Packing away the last of his knives, he would have to figure what had happened to the missing one later. He was pretty sure that it was in Alice's possession. Putting his boxes next to Alice's in the trunk, and a few went into the back seat, he looked at her questionably when she asked exactly what was in the Kitchen, reminding him of the last task which he had to do. "Dad is... Is there anything in the house which you need to get? This is your last chance..." Alice shook her head, knowing that everything which she needed and everything that was dear to her was in one of those boxes. Mark sighed and took one last look at the house before entering it one last time. Opening the door to the garage, he began to take bottles of alcohol and break them against the walls, carrying as many as he could hold, he took them to his father's room, the main bathroom, the living room, and smashed the bottles across the floor. Bringing in the gasoline, he carefully poured some on his father, making sure not to get any on himself as he made a trail to the front door. Getting out the can of gun powder which he had left inside of his room, he took it and placed it in his father's room, in the corner furthest away from his and Alice's room. Hearing a faint beep from the horn or a car, Mark quickly went into his room and grabbed a set of matches and a nicely wrapped box. Walking past his father, he grabbed a bottle which was still intact and soaked a rag with alcohol. Walking outside, he lit the rag and tossed it deep within the house, without waiting for it to break, he gestured for Alice to start the car, while he jumped in and moved onto the street, beckoning for Tristan to follow him. The way which Mark had planned it gave him enough time to make sure that there would not be any tread marks on the pavement. Once they were far away enough, Mark stopped the car and rolled down the window, waiting for Tristan to shout instructions at him.

Will we make the fall?

The house went up in flames. Tristan's eyes looked to the car as it sped off as the black glossed paint of his jeep glistened brightly in the light of the blaze as the sound of the fire squad roared in the background. he put the jeep into drive and followed his brother off down the street thinking about the many things that had just happened today. The anger in his mind of his brother burning away their child hood dreams hit him hard. Burning down the one last place he had seen his mother alive. As they turned down the street where the car in front of him stopped. He swerved so he came up right next to marks car as he rolled down the window he had up in the door closest to the other car.

"Mark you should have not burned the house...." he trailed off looking over to Alice and then sighed running his hand over his face thinking for a moment knowing very well that what had just happened would ruin any of their lives if they were ever caught. "Follow me..." he trailed off before putting the jeep back into drive before he started down the road to finish the hour drive back to his home. He knew that things would be different for them living in the city other then just coming in for school and other small tasks. "I wonder how I'm going have them all fit there? I'm not sure they will be OK with sharing a room. I love them but i need to have my own room." he thought to himself as he looked up into the rear view mirror. He sighed and pulled out his phone with his right hand the left one staying on the wheel at all times to help keep the jeep go straight down the road. He opened it up and went into his contact to the only number with out a name at the current moment. He went to the numbers edit options area and entered the name Yvette Carlo. He then closed the phone and tossed it over to the empty seat next to him. "I'll call her when I get home, after i get this mess sorted all out if it is not to late in the night when that happens." he thought softly to himself.

He kept out of his head and quit for the rest of the drive home before he pulled infront on the full apartment complex. He looked behind him and waited for mark to park before he would get out of his jeep and then make his way in side feeling they could grab their stuff themselves or that they could get it all in the morning. They needed a good night sleep to get this all off their minds. He walked up the two flights of stairs to the top floor of the building before he opened up the door reading M3. He pulled his keys out of his pocket and then placed the sliver rod into its hole before tuning it and unlocking the door. He opened it a moment latter then walked into the 'house' and then looked around seeing it was they way he left it exactly when he left for work early in the morning. It had all that was needed and nothing more, a couch and an TV, arm chair and a small table in the middle of it all. He looked to them as he walked across the red carpet into the kitchen and flicked on the lights to make it easy to walk around the place. "The room to the left is the room you two will share." he said to them softly before he walked around and picked up a few articles of clothing that had been spewed over the couch and such. "If your uneasy about sharing a bed Mark can sleep on the couch tonight." he sighed before walking towards the bath room where he tossed the clothing into the hamper before entering the living room again.

He walked over to the table and picked up a bottle of beer and opened it seeing as he never had the chance to do so before he left for work this morning, and slowly he started to empty the bottle almost in one go at it before he sat down and looked to them both as he pulled out his cell phone once again before he pressed the call button on his cell phone. He waited hoping Yvette would answer and be willing to see him sometime soon, he knew living with these two would cause him to need a new outlet.

Tristan gave a soft sigh as he was glad to see she had given him a real number and not a fake one to blow him off. "Hey Yvette, Its tristan. I hope i did not call to soon." he said kindly as he put the bottle down on the table in front of him on the soft brown wooden table in the center of the room. He knew she was some where quite since there was no background noise to be heard over the phone. He started to wonder if she lived in a nice place that matched the clothes she was most likely waring at the current time.

It took him a moment to understand what she meant by kinda hoping he would have called a few minutes latter then he did, that was until he hear the sound of water. "Well how have you been for the past few hours? I can tell your pretty relaxed now." he stated before he took a puff of a cigarette trying to keep the noise from it quite enough knowing she would not need to hear what he was doing exactly at the current moment. "Getting your number tonight was the last high moment i had tonight up until now so you can kinda guess how I'm doing." he stated wondering about a few things but knew he would have to move this conversation slowly if he was to be able to ask her out on a date.

Fleance bobbed his head in time to the music. He had gone back to his apartment earlier than he had planned; meeting with the other vampire had thrown him out of his contemplative mood. "I swear...there is nothing I would like more than to kill that son of a b***h Lark and just leave...I don't want to think about this s**t..." He organized his troops and charged, breaking through the choke point his enemies at Aramon had set up for him. The laptop screen flickered on his face slightly, but not much. The light from outside cast his room in a bright glow that was unsettling to Fleance, but he had enjoyed it in the past so he had learned to get over it. Besides, his eyes were focused on the screen, at beating his computerized opponent in a game of strategy.

It wasn't just the entire issue that was on his mind. Meeting someone new also shook Fleance out of the quiet stupor he had been living in for the past few years or so. She was supposed to be calling him, but Fleance wasn't sure if she would. He honestly didn't blame her if she didn't. Still, he kept the phone on his lap, and would glance at it every so often. The books he had rented in the library were left unread in the corner; he would get to them later.

He k new she was acting slightly but when she asked him out before he had had the chance to do the same to her it made him jump slightly. It had been awhile since a girl asked him out. He wondered what she really thought about him,ut then thought agginst it seeing as she was willing to give him atleast one date. "That sounds like a great idea. How about firday, two days from now We meet at the libairy and then we can go see a movie and then after that i will treat you to coffe?" he asked as he looked down at the bottle on the table his mind going to what little clothing he had for such an event in his posesion. Most of his good clothes where left over his last girl firends house before they had a bad break. He waited for her answer hoping it would be a good one.

He smiled and then thought about what the movies that were out at the current moment his hand taking the bottle in hand before he drunk the rest of it quickly. " Yea i'm still here. There is a new anamated movie out now. Would that work?" he asked her thinking for a moment as he stood up. "I mean i know it might be childish but atleast we know it wont have to much violence or be to scary." he smiled as he looked to her thinking for a moment.

He stood up and made his way towards his bed room kicking a empty pack of cigaretes across the room. "Firday night it is." he smiled sitting down on his bed as she asked if she could call him back latter. "I look forward to talk to you then. I never have had a chance to talk to such a nice girl as you. Good bye and stay safe Yvette." he smiled as he looked towards the window closing his phone as soon as he knew she was gone before he would lay back onto his bed and smile. HE had a good feeling in him and about them. The only thing that could get in the way would be his little brother and sister. He sighed and then closed his eyes after putting his hands behind his head letting his mind wonder.

He awoke from the light slumber he had fallen into. His minds now focused on the phone buzzing by his head not the vison of Yvette he had been thinking of before hand. He reached up and flicked open the phone and pressed it to his ear knowing he should not act like he was desparte when it came to talking to her on the phone. "Hello again. I was wondering when i would get this phone call." he smiled as he sat up on his bed turning so his back was facing the window. He looked to the ground and then smirked seeing the empty box he had kicked before hand knowing he should clean up that and all the bottle before his brother and sister came home.

"If i told you that i most likly would not get that first date." he chuckled "But if you really want to know i will tell you firday night over coffe." he smiled knowing maybe after he talked to her in person and had gone out with her once she would not be so angry of him alredy thinking about her in such away. Or maybe she was ok with it now seeing as it was her fault. He would have called her back after her bath but she continued to talk to him while she sat there in such a state.

He chuckled and looked out of the window into the night sky thinking to himself. "I'll try." he chuckled into the phone showing that what ever had happened between the time he saw her and called her the first time was not in his thoughts now. "So do you wanto get to know each other anymore over the phone or do you want to wait untill we get to sit face to face after the movie.

She softly smiled and thought of something. "Do you want to get a cup tonight?" She asked, unable to wait for friday. She needed to know the boy she would be dating. She crossed her legs, and pulled off her shoes. She wondered if there was something wrong with what she said, but waited nonetheless.

Thinking for a moment and stood up and reached into his pocket checking for his keys before he smiled and started to walk towards the front door. "Sure. I'll me you at the place right across the libairy in lets say half an hour?" he asked her softly as he waited for her responce suprised that she was willing to go out for a small 'date' with him to night. It had only been a few hours since she had given him her number. As he waited for her to answer his idea of where and when he walked into the kitchen area quickly and pulled out a pen and paper and wrote Mark and Alice a note.

"Went out on date don't call me I will call when i'm on my way home

-Love tristan

He pushed the paper infront of him before he started to go back towards the door phone still to his head as the sound of a strong wind blew agginst the building.
