The difference what might it be?
i've heard that we all have strengths but not all have power
also that strength is power in many cases
i've heard many definitions but they are all bland and unspecific so i'm not looking for a dictionary definition or a metaphor but instead an explanation of what it means to have power or strength
perhaps they are synonomous but i cant find an answer one way or the other

XD Well considering that humans invented the two words...it really depends on how we interpret it. There's no definate right answer to your question.
But about that strength/power saying...if you asked what the guy was thinking about when he said it, there could be a couple answers. I'd guess he meant that we all have our strong point, but not all of us can make use of them, hence the lack of power. But if you do have power, it comes from your strength.

hmm, i meant that he said that you can have strong points but you cant always have power; meant as if the powerful one has control over the other powerless ones
still way too wordy

Umm... well I think the thing is, it's one of those square rectangle situations. Strength can equal power, but power isn't neccisarily strength. strength can be used in many different meanings, and situations. You could think of it as power, like physical strength, or strength is like an amount of something, more like a characteristic. Power... could be like the ability to do something. You have the power to__.
Actually maybe it could be that strength is a very broad, or how you say bland term. power could be like a more specific type of strength.

I think strength is something you can work on more than power. strength, to me, is how far you can go. But power is almost something far different from strength. Power can be many different things, like to have or able to get something strength can not. Strength is only something that will take you far if you are alone, Power is given to you and something you have with other(s) people.

Seeing as I'm a fighter my view of it is combat aimed but it works for normal life too.
"Everyone have strength but not everyone has power." is one one way I know of it.
For me, strength is the amount can be expressed with power is the potential to make something happen.
or as one of my old combat teachers said, "Strength comes form the body while power comes form the heart and mind." Meaning that everything physical has strength and we can use things like physics on it. But power is the thing that can't really be put into words any more than trying to explain ones heart, mind, and/or soul.
or strength can be apart of a whole. Like on a strength test where you punch a pressure gauge of some kind to tell how strong you are. Even if I can't left as many wights as the other guys and are not as big as them there is not way I can have as much strength as them. But I still come is in the top 3 scores when I do it, because even though I don't have as much strength as them I have more power.
As far as most people know power is weak next to strength but that is wrong. Power is like gravity, it only seems weak next to other things because it is unfocused. Or you can think of it like a gun. The gun is itself is power and bullet is strength. A may have enough power to shoot through a wall but that does not mean the bullet will have enough strength to go through the wall.

I still don't think there's such a thing as a right answer. =/
We're all defining strength and power in the ways we see them, which I would call biased because our definitions are based off our teachings (ex: in arch's case: combat)
Strength can also refer to mental strength, social strength or even the strength of the arc of a bridge.
Power can refer to electric power, power rangers, or political power.

My guess is that it means, we all have something we are good at (strength) while not all have the ability to use those strengths for something (power). ie, you may be a good debater, but that doesn't mean you will ever become a politician, you may be good at hockey, but that doesn't mean you will ever become a professional. Even if you try with these strengths you may still fail, and never achieve some wealth or authority and always be known as a failure. Money and Good Resources is power, that could get you one of these jobs, even though you lack the appropriate strengths to perform it.

GEEZ im sorry but this has so many mistakes that i can barely read it let alone cross-examine it. i mean i had to stare at "Everyone have strength but not everyone has power." is one one way I know of it. for like ten minutes before i even knew what you were talking about some mistakes are okay but at least you can read them like right here you dont even finish your thought ~ For me, strength is the amount can be expressed with power is the potential to make something happen. ..............with what? i had my 11 year old sister read this and she can barely understand it (power is commonly thought as authority and is almost always thought as better than strength *her thought not mine*) PLEASE repost in better grammer im sorry but i merely cannot read what you wrote, nothing against you. and i would like to see what you have to say so please rewrite what you posted..................(please)

Quote: once again i am NOT looking for definitions of strength or of power rather what it means to have power or use it versus having strength(s) and/or using it. o_O But to know what it means to have power or strength, don't you inevitably need to define the words? If I started a new discussion and asked "what does it mean to have x?", then the next person would ask me "what is x?" "power" and "strength" seem about as obscure as "x" to me... In other words, I feel like you're asking a question where we have to assume we understand the meaning of its components or entirely make up our own definitions.

Green Apple Pies, I like your definition though. It's so simple, and I'm surprised I didn't think of that first. Good. Of course xeidrii. That is the truth. but through everything we have through knowledge, we can't be really say is 100% true. The thing with science is just it is a theory that is indeed popular, and has a tendency to work out that way in many a number of trials. That's in a sense racisit or some word like that, and is why we always say it's wrong if it doesn't fit the "popular theory" So all we can do, is share all of our beliefs and knowledge, and hope the world won't kill you for it, and come with an solution all (or in the world today's case, most) will agree with.
