The sun had been rising above the horizon as it was a new day. Nariko's green eyes gazed forward as he decided where to go. His mane had fully grown out not too long ago since he last ran in with one of his brothers. He hadn't ran into Radi in a while, and he hoped his sister was faring well. While he was on the thoughts of his siblings, he wondered how his brother Shin was doing with his nephews.
His paws took him around as he wondered how his mother was doing. It's been a while since he spent a lot of time with her and today might actually be a nice day to do that.

Tufani noted the rising sun as she kept a casual pace toward her den. It was empty again, and she was somewhat grateful for this. Her children were off in random directions, as they had been as cubs, but now she didn't worry as much about it. They were all strong lions and lionesses, and she had full confidence in them. Still, at times she wondered how they were doing, and if she had raised them right in spite of their circumstances. The last thing she wanted was for any of them to end up like their father...
Noting another black lion in the distance, she hastened her pace, unwilling to call out any particular name until she got closer and could see who it was. There was nothing worse than calling a child by the wrong name, after all...

It didn't take long for Nariko to spot a figure off in the distance. In only an instant, he immediately knew who it was. What luck! Just the one he had been thinking about too. A smile slowly grew on his features as he made his way closer to his mother. She looked as lovely as ever, the same as he remembered her. It's been some time since he actually got to see her since he spent plenty of his time with Sarakiva or out wandering the Pridelands to get to know it better.
He called out to his mother happily, "Mom!"

Ah, Nariko. If it was one thing Tufani prided herself on, it was knowing her children by the sound of their voices. Tufani still remembered the shock of the queen approaching her and asking if Nariko could become part of the Pridelander tradition of betrothement. Of course, Jani had objected at first, but since the cubs were going to grow up together anyway...well, it was much better than the situation Tufani was in, mateless and a mother of six. Besides, it felt wonderful to feel a deeper connection to the lands she called home, almost a further confirmation of her Pridelanderhood. So much had changed since the time when a jackal and a young cub emerged from the thorn patch to seek a kind and welcoming king.
"Hello, son! How are you and Sarakiva?"

As he got closer to his mother, Nariko went to nuzzle her cheek affectionately. If it wasn't for her, he wouldn't be here and for that, he was grateful to have his mother with him even when he never had that father-figure in his life. He smiled before he replied, "We are doing well, we've been spending plenty of time getting to know one another. It took a while before we were comfortable with one another. Queen Kami even has spends some time with me so that I can become familiar with everything that goes on here," It was a lot of work and a lot of responsibility, that was for sure.
His green eyes looked at his mother, "How have you been, Mom? Have you been faring well?" He's been overdue to see his mother, he did miss her a lot! He didn't want her to think he had left or worse, abandoned her!

Tufani beamed proudly as she listened to her son talk about his life and the things he was dealing with. "I have been doing quite well; nowhere near the responsibility you have, nor the responsibility I had of looking after you and your siblings. Truth be told, my life has been rather boring of late," the lioness said before laughing softly. "I'd almost forgotten what it was like to take these early morning strolls. It's rather nice to have the quiet, though it's not nearly as joyful as seeing my children happy."

It was nice to hear his mother was doing well, Nariko was glad. He was just starting to get a taste of what his responsibility will be like once Sarakiva and her brother take over their mother's job. His tail flicked slightly as he smiled, "It's nice to take some time and relax. But don't you worry, you're life won't be too boring for too long! Just because we've all grown up, doesn't mean you still won't see and have little grandcubs to take care of!" Cubs were definitely not in the near future for him at the moment, whereas his brother was already a father of two. "I am happy, Mom. I am happy of the path you put before me and I couldn't ask for anything better!"

For a moment, Tufani imagined a giant brood of grandchildren surrounding her with love and affection, and she grinned at the thought. The best part about grandchildren, after all, was that she got all the good things about having cubs and none of the bad things. Still, if all six children had cubs...well, she'd have many grandcubs to dote on.
"I am glad that you are happy, Nariko. That's really all a mother can ask for, especially since you had and have the most responsibility."

With a smile, Nariko looked at his mother in adoration. She was definitely someone he could count on, someone he could confide in and he was glad to have his mother in his life. His green eyes rested on her as he replied, "I didn't understand everything that was going on back when I was younger, but now, I am grateful for your decision. I don't think I've told you that yet. It's nice to know that I have something set for me in the future and I don't have to worry too much other than the huge responsibilities that I'll have." It'll definitely be a huge responsibility to be by Sarakiva's side when she and her brother take over, but he was comforted by the fact that his family was so supportive.
His ears flicked, "I'm happy to know that if I need help, I can count on you and my siblings for advice as well," He paused before continuing, "I don't know if you've heard, but when I last saw Radi she had told me that Kibela had left. And since we were on the topic of grandcubs, Shin has two cubs of his own now."

The mother lioness beamed with joy as she listened to her son talk of gratefulness and understanding, the two things she had most wished for, especially with Jani telling her how bad an idea it was. Still, Nariko's Grandmother Jackal would support him in the times ahead, especially when she knew he was happy with Tufani's choice.
With a soft sigh, Tufani greeted news of her other children. "I hadn't heard, but it is not unexpected to me. I knew at least one of my children would get their father's urge to wander...but Shin's cubs come as a delightful surprise to me. Who is the mother?"

Ears perked forward as Nariko was surprised. His father was a wanderer? Well, he guessed that would explain his lack of presence in his life. His green eyes looked at his mother, "You expected it? Radi was pretty beat up when she told me the knews, considering how close the two were." He let a soft sigh escape from within, so many things were changing. At least he still had his mother with him too.
He looked up and smiled, "Well, I haven't exactly met her yet, but I've caught a glimpse of her when Shin left. When I had ran into Shin, I wiggled her name out of him, Kabichi. She's very nice to look at, she's white with a wing design on her back of bright colors like blue and purple. I'm sure if Shin chose her, than she must have a good personality, I couldn't see him not picking a wonderful lioness." He nodded, he was giving his siblings the benefit of the doubt about picking mates and such. "I met one of his cubs, and he'll definitely have his paws full!"

"I expected it the way mothers have a nagging worry about their children," Tufani said. She would never tell her sons, but she always had a nagging worry as they were growing up that one of them might end up a Toshiro 2. "I do hope she has a good experience, and that she returns home to us again soon. Not everyone who wanders off is gone forever, after all; sometimes you just need to see the world to understand how good life is in the Pridelands." Complete with all its briar patches, she thought.
At the thought of a rambuncious grandchild, the older lioness grinned. "I suppose it's slight payback for all the trouble you children caused when you were younger," she teased. "Perhaps I can meet Kabichi by catching one of Shin's cubs out wandering too far from home, as cubs tend to do."

With a nod of his head, Nariko knew what his mother was saying. "Well Mom, you don't have to worry about me. I'll be here!" He chuckled softly, even if he ever had the desire to wander off, his duty was here in the Pridelands with Sarakiva. Plus, things here were exciting enough for him. His family was here, so he's content.
At his mother's jest, he stuck out his tongue, "Trouble! I wasn't trouble!" His green eyes twinkled brightly, knowing full well that his mother was just teasing him. It felt nice that he could talk with his mother, he dearly missed her company. "I hope to meet her sometime too! I need to meet more members of the pride, and it's even better that she's the mother of Shin's cubs."

The mother of Shin's cubs...which would make Tufani the grandmother of Shin's cubs. Well, her children were adults now; she could play the role of a young grandmother, just as Jani had done for her children. "No, Nariko, I have no worries about you, or any of my children now. I raised you all the best I could, and from what I can tell you have all become fine adults. And, now that our family seems to be growing larger daily...I suppose I shall never have to worry about becoming one of those old bitter lionesses that lack someone to talk to. Life is shaping out quite well for all of us, it seems."

With a large smile, his mother's word made any and all worries that he secretly held go away. It was something that only his mother could help comfort him with. Nariko gave her a bright smile before reaching forward to nuzzle her affectionately. "It was good to see you again. I hope we can get together more often, perhaps come and spend some time with me and Sarakiva's family." He hoped that would happen one day, it was like a dream to him. But for now, he should head on back. So, he bade his mother farewell. "Until next time, Mom!"?
