Kiarra was proud of her decision; the best thing she could had ever done was to move off and find her own territory. She had branched off from a well worn path weeks ago, pushing herself deeper into the jungle. She wasn't sure if she could find her way back to her former home even IF she wanted, and she really didn’t want to.
She pressed deeper into the vegetation with the thought of complete solitude in mind. The only people she had in her life were miserable; the complete opposite of herself. She was unique, spontaneous and always thoughtful of others, yet seemed to fail at finding others who were as endearing as herself.
She finally chose a piece of the jungle to call her own; An enormous tree with thick elongated branches growing less then twenty feet from a stream suited her perfectly; the constant water source meant an abundance and variety in prey, she took to it quickly.
Although she had solitude in mind, she had chanced upon a few unexpected meetings with B’alam, one in particular happend a few nights prior, it was her meeting with Montgomery…Monty, as she had quickly nick-named.
He seemed to leave her…interested. Something she found rather odd; She was a quick thinker and never dwelled on unimportant or uninteresting things and, in her eyes, males fell into either two…Except Monty’ol boy.
Though she preffered the day time to prowl, she had willfully traded in her warm sunning hours for a few hours of darkenss to experience the nightlife, possibly equally as warming, in the hopes of running into this mysterious b’alam that seemed to captivate her so.
By sleeping in later then usual, she was now able to stay awake and enjoy the night. She waited bellow her favorite tree quietly while listening to the stream running across smoothed pebbles, sprinkling relaxing sounds into the silent night; it wasn’t half as nerve-wrecking as she though it would be. When she looked up, she was met with a crystal clear sky brimming with thousands of dazzling stars. A small smile crept across her face as she remained motionless, holding her breath as if she had been graced by the heavens above as she stared upwards.

Montgomery sniffed at the air delicately, his whiskers twitching as he followed his friend's scent. He paid little attention to it but his paws naturally sought out clear spots to come down, where there were not leaves to rustle or sticks to break, and he carefully avoided patches of brush too thick to move through without brushing and making noise. For a night hunter, instinctive stealth made the difference between eating and going hungry that night. He paused in the shadow of a large tree, blending into the dark well cast by the moonlight, letting his ears search for any unusual noises disturbing the night. After a few moments, he resumed his careful walk. He was rather more distracted than usual tonight, the new female he had met only a few days ago was on his mind, and for some reason he could not shake the thoughts. He shook his head slightly as he continued, noticing that his path was gradually talking him closer to the stream that bisected the area. A slight nod accompanied that thought, it made sense, a stream was an excellent place to linger for daytime prey.

He raised his head and sniffed the air again, Kiarra's scent was definitely getting stronger the closer he moved to the stream.

Her right paw lightly contracted every few seconds, each digit lightly pressed against the soil almost as though she was grooming it. It was a little ‘soothing’ habit she had developed when she was quite young, and simply couldn’t break now that she was older. She seemed to do this strange behavior most often when distressed or very relaxed, from one extreme to the other… A shooting star danced across the sky within the blink of an eye, her eyes locked on it instantly as they followed every move, leaving Kiarra starring into the distance when it finally disappeared.
“Tonight will be a dull one”, Kiarra declared as she whispered out loud.
A moment before she was about to leave, something caught her attention; someone she knew was nearing…A b’alam….male….Komi! She looked to her left, up stream and saw a strange figure approaching; the animal had been silhouetted against an even darker background. Her ears searched desperately for a sound, any sound, but to no avail.
She sat while facing the nearing unknown, her shoulder blades protruding slightly as she lowered her head in silence, staring at the animal. Should she jump in the tree and reveal her position? Or hold her ground and hope it slipped by? She waited…for now.

Montgomery looked around, his dark-adapted eyes searching for a familiar silhouette against the dark foliage. She has to be around here, his senses all told him, her scent is close by. He stopped next to a bush, listening closely to the trickle of the stream, hunting in the night jungle clutter for the sound of something breathing. After a moment, he heard the slightest hint of someone to his right, and slowly turned his head in that direction. "Kiarra, are you there?"

At the sound of his voice, her fears turned to excitement in the matter of seconds. Her head rose, followed by her body.; she began to slowly walk in his direction, purring softly as she neared his side with ever step.
Instead of stopping, she deliberately walked to and past him, rubbing her head underneath his chin as she continued past. She looked over her shoulder, "You had me.....uneasy..." She said with a wink, unwilling to admit she was scared; her heart had been racing and her steps still trembled...It only took a second for her to get it under control.
When she had 'greeted' him, she turned and sat quietly, close to his side. "How are you Monty? How the night treating you?"

He smiled immediately when he heard her, purring when she rubbed against him. He bent his head down to rub on her shoulder, then sat down beside her. "Sorry to make you nervous, Kiarra, I'm not really used to meeting other B'alam out here when I'm hunting." He smiled and nuzzled her again for good measure. "I'm glad to see you, though. My night has been going well so far, it's very pleasant and quiet out here. Good for all kinds of things."

"You did a very good job of blending in there, I didn't spot you until I was quite close, and then only because I could sort of hear you breathing." He nodded approvingly, stealth was one of the things he found especially fine in other B'alam.

She respected his comment, he was such an intelligent male; sometimes she was quick of breath when nervous..."Well thanks...It took me a while before I spotted you! Now I'll remember to calm my breathing a little more. I mean, what can you do when someone leaves you...breathless...Every so often?" She giggled softly.
To change the topic, she quickly added "I'm sure there’s many things you could help me improve on...So what exactly does one do while wandering in the shadows all night? I have to admit, besides the previous times we've run into each other, this is about as much of the night as I've tasted...Though I enjoy it, it's always interesting when you're around.." Her tail loosely brushed the ground, back and forth. She enjoyed the smell of the moist ground bellow their feet, It added a 'raw' feeling to the night.

Montgomery chuckled softly, shaking his head a little in the darkness. "Well, I had not encountered that problem before until recently. It's all your fault." He looked over at Kiarra, his kidding smile shining a little in the moonlight. "Mainly I hunt at night, or if I have an especially easy catch, I'll just find a good spot and sit for a while. It's a very peaceful time to think things through and get them all straight in your head." He pondered that for a moment, he had never really considered *why* he did what he did, it was just his nature. "The night has just sort of always been my friend, with the colouring I have, it's almost inevitable that I would be a night hunter." He purred and rubbed his shoulder against hers. "You're not bad at all, you just need some practice."

"Well, I must agree; Practice makes perfect..Im more of a fishing cat myself...I get nervous around prey that might be too large to handle" Her nose wrinkled softly as she watched his reaction, memories of a boar encounter months prior rattled in her mind. She had barely escaped with her life, and now shook the violent images from her head.
"Have you had any success in the hunt tonight Monty? You know, I Wouldn’t mind watching you hunt someday. I think it would be rather interesting. I might even be able to gather a few pointers from your example..." She asked as her long pink tongue groomed her left paw, rubbing her paw by her ears before returning it to her mouth to be groomed once more.

"Mmm, fish is good, I just don't like getting wet to get it," he chuckled. "If you don't like stalking large prey, there are always smaller animals that are easy to kill, although they can be tricky to catch. Large prey is best taken from ambush, they can be rather dangerous if they see you first. That's one of the reasons I like hunting at night." He watched her groom her head, and smiled, rubbing his shoulder gently against hers. "I have not really started hunting tonight yet, it's still early." He purred. "If you would like to come, we can stalk something to eat together."

She nodded about the little prey, she didn't mind small mammals but the birds of paradise in this area were rather......bony.
Stalking prey together, A duo of killers; Did the jungle even stand a chance? Hunting was so romantic. "Of course!" she nearly yelped with excitement, her paw paused for a moment then dropped to the ground immediately. She stood on all fours, a grin on her lips as wild as her heart.
"Now where exactly do you enjoy hunting the most?" She asked politely, trying to get a 'feel' for his hunting technique; everyone had their own. Personally, she never had the patience to stalk prey for a large amount of time. With fish, she could somewhat lure them to herself, using a special trick she had developed over the years. Kiarra loved new things, she loved being exposed to the different things in the world, with a thirst for knowledge that could never be quenched.
She was, to say the least, VERY excited; but tried desperately to hide it.

A grin spread across Montgomery's face, and he pondered for a moment. "Well, usually I select a good spot of deep cover on a path to or from a watering hole, where I can see the water. That way I have plenty of time to appraise the selection of prey before I select the one I want to pursue. They seem much less alert after they have watered, usually. There's two of us tonight, though, so there are different things we could do." He bounced lightly on the tips of his paws, tossing around ideas. "We could do a chase-and-ambush on something of moderate size, I know there are a few larger animals that I had not wanted to try tackling alone in the area. Or maybe we could try that scheme that we were tossing around the other day, the one with you above the trail, and me beside it." He was happy to see her so enthusiastic, hunting with another was so much better than hunting alone, even though he was usually a solo hunter, especially with such a beautiful female.

Her excitement grew with every passing moment, she wanted to get started right away! “So, we’ll chose a spot by a watering hole… I could hold ground in a high branch ahead and flush the prey towards you and you could ambush it! It would be brilliant… They would suspect nothing!” She was wild with anticipation; never had the hunt been so exciting and they hadn’t even started yet! “I could wait for your signal…or we could completely switch roles..!” But that thought made her a little nervous; tonight would be the first big-game she attempted for in years! What was it about this handsome b’alam that made her feel so alive? She blushed at the though, turning away for a moment as she sat with her back to him, “I’m sorry. I feel like such a child… It’s just, I haven’t 'gotten along' with another so well before…Each experience, new or old, is just a little more fun with you around…”,,She paused before continuing, “Oh well.. Anyway, I haven’t seen much large prey along this part of the water bed…Did you have another spot in mind that I’m yet to know about?” She asked in a teasing tone.

Montgomery grinned, her bubbly mood was infectious. Tonight was certainly going to be much more fun than usual, and he was already excited. "Well, we have all night to perfect it, you know," he chuckled, "why don't you call it? Once whichever of us ambushes the prey, the other can be there to help in moments, so we should be able to take almost anything with little trouble, as long as we think on our paws." He nodded up the stream a bit. "There's a spot upstream where there are grass beds along the banks, and I've seen some larger prey in those general areas. I've made a few kills there before, but not in a while so there's a good chance they won't be expecting us. Should we go see if we can find a likely spot to set our trap?" He nuzzled her shoulder. "Tonight will be a good hunt, Kiarra."

She felt proud he had entrusted her with an important decision of the hunt, and made her confidence soar; she never even had a second to doubt herself “Alright…Well…How About I flush it out?” She asked, hoping he wouldn’t mind. When he nuzzled her, he seemed to make her float; she followed him with ease down the path. When she heard him speak her name, she vowed angels could never sound sweeter. She paused for a moment, letting him press farther down the path without her; she wanted him, her eyes absorbing his image to the smallest detail. He was…wonderful. With a little grin she ran past Montgomery, looking back before slowing her pace to a stalking walk. She dipped into the shadows, hiding under the extra large leaves and pausing at the slightest sound.
She went into stealth mode.
She paused for a moment, her body stiff as she looked back to make eye contact with Montgomery; she was taking position. She stared at him for a moment, it seeme to pass like an eternity; something about his eyes made time…stop.
She crouched into the low vegetation; she was gone.
Silently and cautiously, she stalked her way towards a large tree, It stood branching from the ground about 20 meters from the edge of the water. With a swift leap and a hefty climb, she was up the tree in seconds. Silently, she waited for Monty to reveal his position to her, before dinner started nearing the buffet.
