Ok, I know usually "What If" questions are not good (in my opinion) and I know this one will never happen because it's not in the Bible but my girlfriend had this idea while listening to a favorite Demon Hunter song of mine called "Fading Away" (great band by the way, and yes, they're Christian even if they're growling and screaming don't make them sound that way) but anyway, the opening lyric is "It's in this wake that I find myself, losing the will to resume this Hell, when every breath is a dying wish, it's harder to follow the point of this, this broken place that I call my home, is deep in the sorrow that I have sown, and I can't erase what is in my heart, I want it to finish before it starts" and I know this is not what the band was trying to get across but the thought appeared in my girlfriend's head, "What if Satan just got tired of being evil, found it completely useless, and asked God for forgiveness?" To be honest, I was floored at the thought because this guy is the one who absolutely hates Christians and God and is constantly trying stop us from growing closer to God and for him to just...stop? I know it'd never happen but, what if it did? I know it didn't, but this topic is merely to get people's ideas as to what would life be like if Satan did give up.

hmmm.. Never saw this question before.
First thought is God forgives all of mankind of our sins. Jesus DIED to save us and all we have to do is believe and trust in him.
BUT.. Satan was an fallin angel. The rules might be different for them?

And then my girlfriend came back with, "Well, isn't that what we do sometimes? We try to overthrow God by putting people like Buddha and other religions above Him to fade him out?" *sighs* I love her sidewinder thoughts but sometimes they're kind of irritating because I don't know how to come back at them. I basically just repeated myself and told her that Jesus died for humanity. Almost seemed like the conversation between me and her went around in circles. Then I mentioned the verse where it says "Hate all that is evil, cling to what is good" and that pretty much ended the conversation in a stalemate.

No offence, but this reminds me of a book I'm reading.. it talks about LISTENING to others. Sounds like she likes to question and argue, but not LISTEN. It is not uncommon. I know people like this. They have THEIR point of view and will argue it to death, without REALLY LISTENING to anything at all the other person is saying. I'm not trying to be mean to your gf. Just making an observation. biggrin Good luck with that. biggrin heart heart God bless your day! heart heart

Plus, she writes a lot (she has her own book, too bad it's not published) so she has a pretty big imagination. But I can totally see where the not listening part comes in because I feel like she doesn't at times.

I forget exactly where it's written, but the only unpardonable sin is completely denying, rebelling against and denouncing the Lord. Once you really say that you never want Him in your life and mean it, that's it.
[Although this is just what my church has told me. I'm sure that's not the straight phrasing but I'm too tired to look it up right now.]
Satan did that, from what I can see.

A lot of do that, too. We still have until the day we die to change our minds. This might be a craaaaaaazy idea, but I like to think that our God is merciful and that he could forgive even Satan if he truely decided he wanted to turn over a new leaf. But that's just my view of it.
And Slayer, you might be just as guilty of being unable to listen as your gf. She wasn't the only one arguing in circles. wink

Well, here's a thought: the end of the book (literally) has already been written for Satan, so like you said, it's not actually going to happen. It's just not in the plan.
The passage Koneko-chan was talking about is in Luke 12:10 (and a couple of the other gospels). It says: "And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven." (NIV)
My Bible study group talked about this a while back, and our conclusion that blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is basically knowing, by the Spirit, that God exists, Jesus is Lord, and the Bible is true - but rejecting this knowledge and rebelling against it. Which would be precisely what Satan did. ("Even demons believe and tremble" - don't know where that one's from.)
