Trisste blew timidly on his fingertips as he looked around the area, his eyes taking in the new landscape that had changed overnight. It was white, pure white.
< This is . . . >
The day before the area had been a rich field of golden summer grass with an autumn sun forever in setting over the border of trees, but as Trisste took a few steps here and there he noticed the drastic changes with wide eyes. The endless fields of golden grasses had been replaced by scattered snow dunes that went as far as the eye could see, and the once rich sun now hung only as a rising friend that barely lit the azure sky.
Leaves no long clung to the snowdraped branches of the skeleton-like trees, their naked arms tearing into the sky with a contrast that once more took his breath away.
< This . . . so beautiful. >
Trisste smiled beneath his fingers as he took a few more steps, and he nearly jumepd around like a child as the sounds of crunching snow echoed up from the ground beneath as he left tracks that lead towards an ice-choked river that once ran rapid and crimson from the sun's light.

Slowly entering the new landscape, Li'tae squinted his eyes at a form far ahead of him. He shivered a little, though he was unsure if it was from his data reading the snow as cold, or from nerves about who the form might be. Pausing to take in the beautiful scenery, Li'tae let out a long, deep sigh.
Its so...beautiful here. I wonder if the program Leharl made me can mimic it...?
Rubbing his hands together, though from the cold or nerves, again Li'tae couldn't tell, he strode with great uncertainty in the direct of the slowly fading figure. The only sounds coming from their footsteps surprised Li'tae. He was used to birds chirping, or at least some type of noise. Coming on the previously made footsteps, he took care to step in them, to make less noise.
As he got closer to the form and recognition grew, he paused momentarily to gather himself before calling out to the other hacker.
Wincing slightly at the echo of his voice, Li'tae continued onwards towards the now growing figure.

Trisste looked up as he thought he heard a voice call his name, and as turned and saw Li'tae heading his way a smile crossed his face and he raised a hand in greeting.
< Li'tae, over here. >
He turned away from the figure and sent his gaze out over the river once more, his eyes set on the figures of fish swimming beneath a thin layer of ice that looked so fragile yet so solid all at once. Part of him wondered if it could support his weight should he want to step on it.

Smiling as he quickly caught up to the other hacker, he put his hand on Trisste's shoulder. Staring at the frozen river, he wondered if, like the river, this moment of peace could stay frozen. A sad smile crossed his face as he thought over the events of the day, and how Trisste always turned away from him.
Glancing over at Trisste out of the corner of his eye, he quietly whispered to him. Not wanting to break the breathtaking beauty of the sight before them.
Worried about the answer, yet still wanting to know, Li'tae removed his hand from Trisste's shoulder and gazed out across the river.

< I. . . wanted you to see this place. This is Fife Field. >
Trisste's gaze spread across the endless horizon to a small trail of smoke on the border, the trail coming from the chimney of a house that Trisste often rested in when he came here to get away from the strains of working.
< Sionce made this for me, shortly after we met. We'd been talking about seasons, when I was a Child, and I told him I wished I had a place to experience them in. This is . . . >
He stomped his foot onto the ground and watched with glorious wonder at the puffs of snow that flew up with the motion, his mouth wide childish delight as he continued to watch them float back down and settle about his feet.
< I wish you could have seen it in the spring, or the turning towards summer. I've never...seen anything more beautiful. >

Smiling softly, Li'tae glanced over at Trisste. Raising his hand to catch a drifting snowflake, he couldn't help but laugh. The peace of this place was so catching it made him happy to be there.
Watching as the other hacker happily stomped about, Li'tae couldn't help but grin.
Nodding in agreement to Trisste's last statement, Li'tae looked around to see if there might be a place where they could sit that wasn't covered in snow. Spotting the trees he quickly decided those would probably be too hard and uncomfortable, all that was really left out here in the midst of this scene was the snow.
Coming to that conclusion, Li'tae sat down in the cold snow, making a face as he did so, but resting his head lightly against Trisste.

Trisste's body stiffened as he felt Li'tae lean softly against him, but it relaxed after a moment and a gentle smile spread across his lips as he looked down at his companion.
< You're welcome. >
Trisste slowly lowered himself down as well, so he and Li'tae were resting back to back, and he exhaled softly. A thin trail of steam escaped his lips and floated upwards, and he mused to himself how it looked like his soul was escaping slowly from his body with each breath.
Perhaps it was, in its own way, as he was feeling more at ease with the extra warmth and weight that leaned on him. He wanted to try and ask something of the other hacker, something he probably had already been told before, but instead he find his mind freezing at the thought and trailing back to their surroundings.
< We'll have to come back here again when the snow melts and spring comes. >

Smiling as the other hacker's back touched his, Li'tae leaned his head back until it touched Trisste's.
Watching with amusement at the white puffs formed with each breath, he randomly wondered what Trisste might be thinking. He almost asked, but chose not to. Instead, he turned the topic to the situation at hand. It had been troubling him, how the Rabbit was so much like Sionce, and how the Rabbit had, in turn, purposefully lead him to be infected by the Chesire. As it if had known exactly what it had been doing.

Trisste bent his head down as Li'tae began to ask him about the Rabbit, and he closed his eyes as he scanned through his memories for the events that were being discussed. The event that made Trisste think twice about how he felt over Li'tae.
The Rabbit had indeed stayed and cast heals, enough to attract Cheshire; and it did run and take Trisste away, leaving Li'tae behind to deal with the virus that was crippling the system the same way a person crushes leaves beneath their feet.
Had it really...done that all on purpose? Since Rabbit was pretty much like Sionce in all aspects, did that mean Sionce only wanted Trisste for himself, or was willing to destroy anyone that got close to him? The Elder hacker didn't want to believe those thoughts, and inwardly he shook his head violently to shake them loose.
< I don't think it was on purpose. I think it. . .the Rabbit. .was just trying to protect me. I. . .I don't know. I didn't want to leave you behind, but we... >
He stopped talking and looked the tips of his wings which had slowly moved close to his side and were resting in the snow, and he bit his lower lip.
< I don't know. . . >

Tilting his head slightly at what Trisste said, Li'tae wondered if how much of what Trisste had said was the truth and how much was Trisste trying to convince himself it was the truth. Giving a slight shrug, he frowned.
Turning so that he was sitting right next to Trisste, he couldn't help his thoughts as they continued to roam through the events that had lead him to become infected. The fight with Chesire, where he had held on as much as he could in order to protect his friend. He had regretted finally succumbing to Chesire and passing out, had been surprised to have his friend holding him tight and making the Rabbit heal him. He had felt, for that moment, as if there was no problem at all.
And then his friend had let him go and reality had returned. They were both infected by Chesire and now they would have to hunt down the Rabbit in order to create Alice.

Trisste lowered his head down a bit and noticed that his fingers were slowly nestling with one another, a sign that he was becoming uneasy as he tried to find the answer that would be the truth.
< I don't know, I can't say. I don't know why it would want to protect me from you, you've done nothing to harm me. In fact, you've heped me countless times. >
A sheepish and clearly embarassed smile spread over Trisste's face, and he rubbed the tip of his nose with a finger an effort to dumb down how mushy he must have been sounding.
< If that's the case...I don't know what to do. I hate this feeling, this whole sensation of not knowing. >

Frowning at Trisste's uneasiness Li'tae desperately tried to think of something cheerful to say. But all he could think of was a ridiculous quip about how he hated not knowing the answers, as well.
Adjusting how he sat until he sat side by side to Trisste, he put one hand on his friend's shoulder and smiled.
Mentally, he made a note to himself that he would make darned sure Trisste made it through this, in one piece. Through and through. His determination so genuinely felt that it seeped its way onto his face.

Trisste turned and looked at Li'tae a moment before a smile spread across his face, his cheeks deepening in their shade of brown as he blinked a few times. Even though Li'tae hadn't said anything out of the norm, it sounded liek simple concern for a friend, Trisste had felt there might be something else lying beneath those words.
< You as well. I won't...let anything happen to you, even if it means doing something drastic. >
He placed his own hand on top of Li'tae's own and gave it a gentle squeeze before releasing it and dropping his hand into his lap, his gaze sweeping away from Lit'tae's face and back out towards the banks of river and snow.

An uncharacteristic rush sped through Li'tae's being as his friend gently grasped his hand. Disappointed when the comforting touch went away as quickly as it came, he tried to hide that from his face. He didn't want to seem like a wuss, nor did he want to make Trisste uncomfortable around him again. That had been one of the worst feelings he'd had - when Trisste had turned away from him, embarrassed and uncomfortable.
Chuckling a little, Li'tae pondered laying his head against Trisste's shoulder, unsure how his friend would take the gesture.
There was a slight tone of pleading in his voice as he spoke, that belied his real intentions. He hadn't meant it as the lighthearted jibe, but out of real concern.

Trisste chuckled softly as well and nodded his head, his eyes dancing merrily as he continued to look at the thickening ice before him.
< I don't doubt it, but I would hope he wouldn't go to such extremes. I'm only a piece of compiled data, you know? I'm not really 'real', in the sense of 'living'. >
It sounded hurtful and bitter to actually say that about himself but Trisste was well aware that he didn't 'exist' in the 'human' world, that he was forever trapped inside a computer and its endless highways.
< But...enough of that. No need to be gloomy, right? >
Trisste blushed a bit and turned to Li'tae, his face hovering inches away from his companion. He felt exhilarated to be that close, and he let out another chuckle as he quickly rose to his feet and made his way towards the bank of the river.
< I wonder if this ice is 'thick' enough for us to try and walk on. >
