Today was the day that Elisa decided to runaway. No more would she go to Grand Mama's. Uh nuh. She refused! Not only did Grand Mama smell funny, but she also left icky red stains on Elisa's cheeks. No more! Mummy and Ivan would never ship her off to spend time with her anymore! Mr. Foofoo taking over her room was enough as it was. That little piece of Grand Mama was just enough.
So this was good-bye. Farewell Compound. This was the end. Elisa was leaving. She packed up all her pretty things from her room and was her way. The end.
Elisa toddled about down the paths slightly hunched-back. Her possessions were quite heavy. She carried her own life on her back. Still, it was sad. She met a lot nice Pretties here.
Oh well...What would they do in her place.
She was almost at the gate before she sat down. Runaway could wait for a bit. She was tired. Her things were REALLY heavy...

Ismet was a boy who had very little supervision from day-to-day. He spent different days under the 'supervision' of different guardians, but often, he could get away easily. Well, that or they made him help with work: Dacian and his gardening, Hadrian and his paperwork...although, Ahneta never made him work. She just let him do whatever he wanted. But some days, he even managed to get them all convinced one of the others was watching him.
This was one of those days.
And taking a prime opportunity, he had left the compound - to go to the library. Not exactly 'exciting', but it gave him access to books he didn't have in the compound. And he'd already learned how to use the buses before, with Hadrian - so it wasn't like it was hard.
Although he had gotten some strange looks. He'd even worn normal clothes! After all, you couldn't get into most places with a shirt or shoes, so he'd just have to wait until he got back to his room to change into his customary loincloth.
But all of those thoughts derailed when, upon entering, he noted a little toddler. With a bag.
Great: runaway toddler.
Glancing around in the hope that an adult was nearby - and therefore relieving him of the duty of dealing with a wayward tot - he scowled. If he just left, and they found out he'd let a toddler leave...
Just fantastic.
Crossing his arms, he stepped towards her.
"What are you doing?"

Glancing around, Elisa's eyes finally settled upon Ismet. Now he was interesting...and blue. Very blue. She never met a blue person before. This was new. Very new. He didn't seem to be charmed by Elisa's ravishingly good looks either. This was new too. Wouldn't be charmed by her? She was at the top of pretty pyramid, so why wasn't he charmed?
How disappointing.
"Running away," she replied with a matter-of-fact tone. Anyone would want to runaway if they had to spend the day with Grand Mama. "You too?"
This boy was heading towards the gate. Maybe he'll runaway with her?

"Already did."
Not that it was running away as she meant it...but he had left without permission, several times. And perhaps if she thought they had something in common, she'd be more likely to listen to him when he dragged her back to her guardian.
He'd prefer to do that bit without the kicking and screaming; hence why he was actually bothering with the girl.
"It's not as great out there as you'd think."
He knelt in front of her, studying her carefully. Then he proceeded to tell her exactly what the 'outside world' was like.
"It smells, it's dirty, and there are too many people. So why would you want to go out there?"

So this boy already ran away! How exciting, but why was he still here? If he ran away, shouldn't he be gone? Why would he come back? Possible grandma attacks were reason enough to just stay away. Stay far away! Just think of the red stains on the cheeks. The stains that won't go away! The horror!
Any place was better than a place where Grand Mama could find you. She'd just have to deal with the ickiness...Gross. Dirt. Ickies...That really wasn't Elisa's idea of fun.
But who knows. She was cute enough. Pretty, in fact. Someone without a Grand Mama would have to take her in. That would be fabulous. No Grand Mama.
She would miss Evie though...but no Grand Mama!
"No Grand Mama!" the girl basically screeched as she flailed her arms about. This boy had to understand that dealing dirt was better than a day with Grand Mama! "Grand Mama won't find Elisa!"

Ismet grimaced at the screech, wishing her voice was a few octaves lower. And already the screaming had begun...now all that was needed was the kicking, and this would be as bad as it could get.
Grand Mama, huh?
"Why not just hide from your 'Grand Mama' when she's around? Then come back when she's gone. She can't be around all the time..."
Hopefully "Grand Mama" wasn't her guardian; then the entire conversation was pointless.
The snake boys voice was cool, calm, and his face reflected the same; but his hands betrayed his annoyance, with their absent minded tapping. He wanted to go and get changed out of these clothes; they rubbed his scales the wrong way.

But that would make things easy, and it probably wouldn't work. It wasn't like she could hide from Grand Mama when they took Elisa to her. Now that was just plain torture. Elisa knew her mummy hated going there. Couldn't she see that Elisa did too! Even Icky! Icky hated it probably even more than Elisa, but he was just a failure. At least, that's what Grand Mama always told him when she saw him. Elisa couldn't disagree with that...
But still...they took her anyway...to see Grand Mama. Shouldn't her back be better by now? So she pulled something. Why did she need company? Why did she want to see Elisa? Why did she have to kiss her cheeks?
Although, there usually was presents involved with the visits...but that was beside the point!
"No. No." She continued the frantic waving still continuing. "They take Elisa to Grand Mama. Grand Mama needs help. She makes Elisa help! Elisa has to get away!"
Elisa was basically delirious towards the end of her explanation.

Ismet's grimace was turning into more of a grinding-of-the-teeth by this point, as her shrieking continued. It was looking like there wasn't going to be much left to do but drag her back, and risk getting a few bruises...
Maybe he could still convince her? He really didn't want to have to fight with the girl - he was bigger, so he didn't think it would be much of a problem...but it would take much more time to do it if she was struggling.
"...Why don't I talk to your guardian? I'll see what I can do."
Hm. Problem: how could he drag her back to her guardian, when he didn't know who her guardian was?
"Where do you live?"
Find the guardian of the shrieking toddler; right, that shouldn't be too hard. Surely they'd be searching for her, they'd be sure to notice if he was dragging her around the compound.

What was this boy getting at? Where did she live? Wasn't if obvious? Elisa was running away. She had no home now. She lived wherever she stood, and it was soon to be outside of the Compound. Grand Mama would never find her now...but didn't Grand Mama live outside of the Compound...
Oh no...
Grand Mama could still find her! There was no possible escape, and if Grand Mama found out she ran away and then found her, she'd have even more red stains on her cheeks!
NO!
About to have another fit, Elisa realized how very unlady-like she was coming across to her new friend. A lady never reacts this way in public. She is to be proper and always laugh at people's jokes. A lady would never ran away, would she? She would if she had a Grand Mama...
But where were her manners. Here she was spilling her guts out to this boy, and she hadn't even introduced herself. How rude of her! How rude of the boy not ask her name! A gentleman should always introduce himself to a lady, at which she will curtsy and be all sheepish. She would extend her hand for the gentleman to kiss it.
How very rude indeed!
You could almost hear the gears rotating in Elisa head before finally came to her own conclusion. She would make up for her rudeness. Letting our an airy laugh and changing her frown to an almost frightening smile, Elisa completely ignored the boy's question and curtsied in front of him. "Elisa."

Ismet cool mask slipped as Elisa spoke - not answering his quesstion, but instead giving her name. Annoyance was present on his face for a few moments, before it was carefully hidden again.
She wasn't making this easy.
"Ismet."
He didn't make any other greeting then his name, just watching her. He looked like he was half-expecting her to make a run for it; he was hoping she wouldn't, but he couldn't be sure.
Hm. At least it'd be easier to find her guardian now that he knew her name...
Ismet's expression shifted to a more calulating one, as he spoke once more.
"...If I show you a place your Grand Mama would never find you, would you should me where your guardian lives?"
Perhaps it was fruitless to try down that path again, but maybe she would be tempted by a good hiding place; if it worked, then he could get back to his own objectives more quickly. If it didn't, well...it wasn't like he would lose anything.

A place to hide from Grand Mama? Now that sounded ideal, but could this Ismet really find her a place to hide? It was nice that he was so willing to help her. Perhaps, he had a Grand Mama of his own so he understood, but she wasn't too keen on negotiations.
What this Ismet getting out of seeing her home? That sounded a little fishy to her. Was he going to stay cooped outside her building mourning her disappearance? He could see her, you know. He'd know where she was...but then he could also tell Evie and Icky where she was.
No!
This was a trick! This Ismet was working for Grand Mama somehow. He was going to hide her, tell Evie where she was, and then Evie was going to take her to Grand Mama's! Elisa would not stand for this, but she couldn't let this Ismet know this...
"Why you want to know that?" Elisa asked trying to act like she knew nothing, but oh, did Elisa know everything. This Ismet was going down.

It wasn't exactly like Ismet's plan was all that well thought through; he wasn't really being all that sneaky, even with the stereotypes of snakes out there. But he didn't take the route of simply pretending he would let her hide away forever, at least.
Maybe he had a chance of convincing her? Or this was just going downhill really quickly. Who knew.
"I'm going to talk to your guardians, and talk to them about you not wanting to see your Grand Mama," more like he would tell them the she tried to run away, and that they had better work something out so that he wasn't hunting little girls down in his free time. "You can't stay in hiding forever."
After giving her another brief, appraising look, he made a guess.
"After all, when would you bathe?"
She looked like the kind of kid that loved being clean - so hopefully that would hit her, since if she ran away, she wouldn't exactly get many opportunities to be clean. Maybe it would scare her into letting him get rid of her.

With that last remark, Ismet may have just hit the nail on the head, and Elisa's previous convictions slowly came tumbling down. What? What did this Ismet just say? Just as slowly, realization washed over and struck the girl right in the face as did her two hands that now cupped her cheeks. No baths? Elisa didn't think of that before she ran away! Oh no! Now that was just gross...and dirty! Something that Icky would be okay with doing, but not Elisa! Of course not! She was a Pretty, and Pretties took bathes regularly. Ickies took bathes whenever they wanted...Or did they? Elisa wasn't too sure. She didn't pay any mind to most ickies. She just knew Ivan, and he was the perfect Icky example...
No. No. No!
But wait...this Ismet was working for Grand Mama. Of course he knew what Elisa hated most. He must have known that Elisa hated Ickies. He must know that Elisa loved being clean as well as civilized and proper. He would know what would make her crack.
This Ismet was very smart. Very smart indeed. Elisa almost admired him for it. If only he wasn't working for Grand Mama...
Well if he wanted to know where Elisa lived, Elisa would take him on an adventure. She would crack him before she cracked even more. Elisa wanted to hear that he was working for Grand Mama. Expose him! Yes...
Ha! She was so smart. Now she even amazed herself!
"Elisa will take you to her house." Yes. Her house.

Success. With any luck, he'd be rid of her within the hour, and be off to do something on his own, before one of his guardians managed to hunt him down and make him help with their work.
Ismet stood then, a half-smile managing to break through on his face: finally.
If he had any idea what conclusion she had come to, he would be singing a different tune.
"Well then. Let's get going, shall we?"
It was beginning to look like - although Ismet didn't yet realize - that this was going to be a very interesting (if infuriating) day.

Clapping her hands excitedly, Elisa smiled and nodded her head. "Yes. Yes. We go~!" She chimed happily. This was going to be so much fun. No Grand Mama and no reporting to mummy, who would take her to Grand Mama. Yay~! Elisa just had to decide where she was going to lead this boy. He did look a lot older and probably knew the Compound better than she did. Would he know where she was taking him?
Hmm...That might throw a wrench in the plans, but oh well. Elisa would find a way out of it~! She has proven to be smart. Discovering that he worked for Grand Mama, and coming up with this plan was definitely proof.
"Elisa lives..." She started as she gazed about.
Hmm...which way did she come. That was the way to avoid altogether.
"Elisa lives over there," she declared pointing. "Let's go~!" She was about to skip ahead when her bag threw her forward.
Letting out a yelp, she rubbed her head and glared at the bag. Hey. This Ismet was a boy. He should help Elisa. Turning her attention away from the bag, Elisa gave him a sheepish smile.
