Hera lightly stepped over a fallen tree as she wandered far away from her den. She hadn't left there since her first encounter with the Prince, but she wanted to see him again. He might be out with the other soldiers, she thought to herself, bringing her hopes of seeing the Prince down slightly. Then again, she didn't want to see him because of the lack of tear-markings on her face.
What if he doesn't want to see me again because my father wasn't part of the herd? she thought to herself in a panicky voice. She stopped in her tracks and started to walk around in a tight circle. I don't know what to do if he brings that up. I can't lie to him, but I can't tell him the truth either. She tossed her head slightly as she pawed at the ground. It seemed that this little issue was eating away at her since she had first seen Prince Ka.

For the prince, very little had caught his attention lately, the soldiers unable to keep his interest. Despite how akin he felt to them and their kind, Ka couldn't quite keep his mind from going in circles, which often times led him away from reality and to the future he saw this herd diving head first into. What to do about it? That is where the sweet promises of his dark demise came to a halt, whispering such things in his attentive ears, and yet teasing as he bore no real solution to the situation. He knew something had to change. Something had to be done, and he was the stallion in the position to do such a thing. Had he perhaps brothers to share in his plight, it would be different, but as it were Ka was all alone in his little rebellion against the path fate laid out before his family. His kin, his people and his blood, though he hardly indulged in their company asides from the soldier's, he had a duty as a Royal to look after their interests the best he could. However difficult his situation made it to do so. What could he do as a simple prince? He would never have the power to change Jala's course, and undoubtedly Yi would not heed his decisions. That was decided already, written in blood and might as well have been carved in stone upon her birth.
This, a setback, was unchangeable. He pondered the situation many times before during the dark dealings of his mind, and though he was no less bitter about the situation, another solution was to be had. Politics were never his thing anyway. What he desired- no, what he needed was a power he could understand and feel apart of without distancing himself by rank and royal blood. Battle. Conquest. Power to defend and defeat. He needed the military. The position held by his sire, a stallion he hardly associated with since his childhood. Mavasu, no doubt worthy an opponet in battle, left a bitter taste upon the young prince's tongue at the thought of him. Royal blood was meant to be used properly, not tossed about with vicious incentive to one's kin, the Tears of Jala, despite lower rank. Ka hardly indulged in the subject himself, and perfered the soldiers to be allowed relatively equal ground. After all, in his spars, there was no 'royal blood' or 'servent to the queen'; just teeth and hooves to do the talking. That's how Ka liked it, a challenge among other things.
With head lost in heavy thought and musings such as these, the buckskin stallion wandered without purpose through the herd lands, almost unaware that he made his way towards an odd sight; a mare putting on a rather quaint display of circling and ground pawing.

Upon hearing the sound of hoof-beats approaching her, she stopped in her tracks, her back facing the unknown Jala. She could feel her heart beating in her chest and her cheeks burning a bright red. She didn't know that other Jala were out and about in this area and that made her feel more like a fool than before.
Don't turn around. You'll just embarrass yourself even more, she thought to herself. Curiosity, though got the best of her as she peaked over her shoulder to see who it was. She spotted the last Jala that she would have thought to run into her. Quickly she turned her head back around and began to shake slightly.
I am so stupid, she thought to herself. Now the Prince thinks I am a freak! Stupid Hera. Stupid, stupid, stupid! She pinned her ears back against her chest as she sighed loudly. Now she would never get the chance to talk to her beloved Prince.

A few steps further and his hoofs came to a slow halt as one of his ears mindlessly flickered forward at a loud sigh. It took a matter of brief seconds for it register, but he did notice a figure before him; however her back was turned and he couldn't quite tell who it was. Wonderful, had it perhaps been one of the more fiery stallions he supposed he would have been caught off guard by a striking comment. Heh, that was just his luck. However stupid as it was, for no doubt any member from the herd who saw him in such a state would have had gossip gracing their lips the next moment.
With a grunt that served to clear his mind of such thoughts, Ka found his gaze unable to break from whoever this was. Honestly, he may not have liked to force his rank upon the others, but he still considered it rather offensive if anyone happened to turn their back on him... if she had noticed him that is. He wasn't quite sure what went on before he heard her sigh. With a quirk of his muzzle he made his way closer to the grey body; marked with the brindles of the Katilenuck. He should have perhaps figured it out before hoof, but the cream mane and tail as well as the distinct dapples did not register till he came closer still. The encounter before had been brief, but he seemed remember it ending in silence.
"Hera", he ventured to utter in a deep perplexity, as he came to the side of her, stepping at an angle to at least face shoulder to shoulder. He seemed to consider her demeanor, noting for the longest time the ears as they pinned against her skull. Ka's own, hung relatively foreward, still, and silent upon his sleek head held upon its high arch. "You're disturbed?" As blunt as it was to be spoken, his voice was relatively firm despite it being a question; for the Prince's interest was peaked at the moment, and curiousity was such a burden to carry in one's thoughts.

Hera nearly jumped as she heard her name being called beside her. She turned her head around slightly to gaze at Ka. How did she miss him walking up to her? Was she too lost in thought to even hear his hoof-beats heading towards her? She canted her head slightly as she flicked one ear forward and then back again. This was something unexpected by the mare.
"You...remembered my name," she said in a soft voice. She hadn't expected that from the Prince. She had thought that he would forget her like her mother did when she was a few months old. Stupid b***h. She left me for my father. She hadn't let anyone into her heart when her mother left, but it seemed that Ka was the only thing on her mind.
"Disturbed?" she asked quietly, not sure what he was talking about for a few seconds until she realized her bizarre behavior. Quickly, she pricked her ears up and took a few small side steps away from him. "It's nothing. I was just thinking about something."

To be fair, the Prince had studied the names of the herd members since his childhood, and kept up the practice later in life, but he wasn't about to admit to that so openly. It might be better if he kept such Royal teachings to himself, for his memory might one day serve him a useful purpose. "I'm certain you wouldn't have forgotten mine", he returned, half denounced of emotion. Most of the time he didn't need to bother with introducing himself, except for foals, they couldn't be expected to know such things. He wasn't sure if he liked everyone knowing he was right off the bat, but there was no changing that, not for Royal blood.
Flicking his ears at her explanation, which did little to quench his curiousity, the stallion gave a heave of breath and reined in his need to further question her. Conversations with citizens were always awkward for the large buckskin, too many things came into play. Politics, for one, to which he had a great dislike to since the birth of Yi. Wasteful politeness that had the potential to conceal venomous intentions. And of course lack in subject matter. He highly doubted 'see any action on the front lately?' would suit such a matter as this.
"Ah. It seems there's alot of that going around lately." Not to mention with myself, he added mentally. Her actions, however far from unnoticed, were what the Prince had come to expect. His reputation as well as his cold exterior had many a mare nervous. Many, but not all. At least not one, but it had been so long since he's seen the outsider Jala, the 'Fake Princess' as she had explained it. She had backbone, that was certain.
That was long past now, he wasn't sure what she was up to, or if she had made it in the world on her own, but right now he had other things on his mind. Here, he had a pair free ears that could serve as a tentive listener, and a maw capable of speach. A voice, which was not hard to listen to at that. Momentarily, he pondered driving deeper into her thoughts, for before he had thought the situation too dank to bring it up. To know her stance with the situation at hand, to get an idea of who will be foe and who will be ally. But when to bring such a topic up, and how? Beyond his comprehension, though the Prince wasn't one to give up so easily. He would come up with way, winged or planned at the last moment.
That just may have been the reason why he didn't part with her suddenly as he had done before, standing unmoved in her presence, and allowing the bit of distance between them.

She shook her head timidly, knowing that she hadn't forgotten his name at all. How could she when he was on her mind most of the time. The other time she thought of her basterd of a mother who left her all alone to go with that non-herd Jala. Hot tears threatened to roll down her cheeks, but she held them back as she shook her head more violently. No-she couldn't let the prince see her emotions. She had to keep them in check or else.
Her thought quickly faded from her mother to Ka as he started to speak again. She nodded her head, silently agreeing with him. "I have heard rumors..." she started to say, but she stopped for a few hesitant moments. Did he really wanted to hear rumors that he may have already heard? She shook her head slightly and continued to speak. She wanted to get this off of her chest. "Rumors that Princess Yi will take the crown soon and...with a non-herd Jala by her side as her mate. Other rumors say that she may be expecting, though I highly doubt that. I also highly doubt that she had taken in a non-herd Jala as her mate." Hera let out a cold laugh, one that could freeze a heart if it wasn't already cold as ice.
The laugh seemed to echo off of the distance mountain and she stared at Ka for a few moments, wondering why he hadn't left her yet. It seemed odd that he didn't wander off while she was in thought for those few precious moments of silence. Did he really enjoy her company or was he really that bored? Either way, she was just happy for his company, even if it was for less than an hour of the entire day.

A dripping experiance indeed, for his mind circled and prodded at the same idea, the same way he had always been unable to deny access to such thoughts as the dark deeds that played a tug-a-war with what he wanted and what he needed. Dripping in the sense of slow acceptance, awaiting the final drop to spill from the tip of where ever it is to crash down into place with the others.
In the most teasingly of ways, his moment's companion merely encouraged such thoughts as Ka's to swiftly take the front seat. Firstly, he intertained the little chill that reached his ears in the form of laughter, such a chill that was heartily welcomed by his own frozen demeanor. He was beside himself it seemed, looking in at what he was doing, but hardly able to tell it was him at all; and yet he liked the feeling his coldness gave him. And he liked what he had heard. Secondly her words drifted off that not-so-bad voice like sweet honey to be added to the already growing swarm that lifted his spirits. Miss Hera, it seemed, was a good choice to stop and converse with, for that laughter intrigued him greatly. Her demeanor even more. Nevermind the shyness, he would address her believes and pick her mind, not her soul.
There was a sick grin that threatened to pull at the stallion's muzzle, no longer allowing such distance between them he took a step closer, as if to mask his voice to any unpronounced ears of the herd that may be listening. Not that it mattered. "And such a rumor it is, I must muse over her decistion, for I do not doubt its truth with one such as her, for certainly the rest of the herd must have an opinion on this. We are not a people to be closed mouthed when there is something to be said, that I know for certain. Had it been any but the 'future' queen, I suspect not many would care enough to confront it, but with Yi's regal position in question, I have to entertain the fact that quite a few will have some... opinions", the buckskin finished, his voice laced with underlying meaning. He had the mind to delve deeper into what the other thought of the situation, for he himself found it quite amusing for the Princess who had put so much work into her little compaign. As it was, Ka might not even need to do something.
By now, he was hardly able to contain that sick grin that had threatened to expose itself awhile ago.

[sorry about the delay]
Hera gracefully arched her neck as she noticed the prince move closer to her. Was it because he didn’t want anyone else to overhear them or was it because he wanted to be closer to her? She didn’t know, but she was glad when he made the distance between them shorter. Maybe this was the best thing that had happened to her since she was born. She blinked her eyes slightly at that thought. It was indeed the best thing that had happened to her since she had been born and her mother left the Herd to go with her father, that b*****d her mother mated with.
Listening to Ka’s response to her statements, she didn’t seem shocked with his own statements. Were they thinking on the same wavelength or was she reading his mind? Whatever the answer was she was glad that she was thinking practically the same thoughts that the Prince was thinking. Maybe they might make the perfect pair together, but surely not mates. Partners perhaps, but she wouldn’t think about becoming mated with the Prince unless she happened to bump into him a third time. “Only a few? I happen to have more than a ‘few’ opinions about what the ‘future’ queen is doing right now.” She tossed her head slightly and took a few sidesteps towards Ka, shortening the distance between them a little bit more.
It was then that she noticed Ka’s grin. She flicked her tail gently, happy that he had finally relaxed around her.

Relaxed was hardly the meaning behind the prince's grin, as it always seemed to appear as he thought and prodded at the ideals behind his plots. He would need to put on the finishing touches, to put the pieces into place, but surely that could be done with ease and with little effort on his part. The only problem was, it took time, probably more so than the prince had the pateince for. Despite that, Hera closing the distance between them didn't fully escape his gaze, which he had to admit was rather intriguing. Apparently, they had similar ideas, and if that was merely a hoax she at least had the belly not to run off with her tail between her legs and spouting some sort of nonesense about needing to do something. The prince could hardly stand the shy ones these days. Annoying, pesky, and down right bothersome.
That however did not stop him from raising his head onto its high, slender neck, intrigued or not he was the prince, and he would not be thought of so lightly. At the very least, it served as a reminder as they went on in conversation. "Indeed I do not doubt that. Opinions of which I would like to hear, though not before some deliberation. I would first like to ask your opinion on the military, and of its current commander, my sire- Mavasu." Sire, not father. Ka had no intention of ever calling that stallion father. It would was imperative to the prince that he also know Hera's opinion on the current commander, as it would greatly effect which opinions he shared with her and when. Morbid sea green eyes turned to her's, as the stallion pricked his ears, expecting an answer without much delay.

Hera looked curiously at Ka as he raised his head higher. She smirking, wondering what he might do next. He was Prince of the herd and had to keep his stature to state that he was indeed royalty. She didn't think that Ka would ever relax around her.
Blinking her eyes a few times as he requested to hear her opinion on his sire and the military, she didn't hesitate at all in stating her opinion. "In my opinion until this season the military was run quite smoothly with your sire in charge. He is the only one perfect for the role, other than you, my dear Ka. However since lately, after your dam's newest brood, it seems that your sire has been, well, slacking in the leadership department. First there was this report of a rebel group of Reya and now rumors that your dam's newest offspring might not even be out of your sire's bloodline. Quite a disturbance with a few Jala. Though this isn't the first time a mare has switched mates but for the Queen to do so despite her producing two offspring with her last mate? That is rather rare." She let her words fade away to let Ka think about that for a bit.

Despite his little reminder of rank, which he kept minimal at nearly all times despite him being eldest of his siblings, the stallion had his ears remain fairly perked and his attention trained on Hera. It wasn't in his nature to ignore details, much less when anyone was speaking to him, save for that of slaves he supposed. Though honestly he hadn't much contact with them either, considering the prince had yet to get one for himself.
After a moment of consideration he gave a light bob of his muzzle, finding most of what he heard about his sire to be his very thoughts. "He hasn't failed as a commander, I recognise that." But that did not account for how incomputent he thought his sire to be. There was more to leading than the job usually entailed, one of which being a connection to your fellow stallions who put their lives on the lines for the herd. Ka felt he had a kinship with the soldiers, as he dueled and sparred with them regularly, and had gained an understanding on how nearly each of them fought. Still, his affectionate thoughts of the military could not escuse the other matter at hoof. "As for my siblings, it is, after all, merely a rumor." He spoke indifferently about the subject, not choosing to reveal his own thoughts on the matter. After all, he was fiercly loyal to his mother and the current queen, his love for her great, and perhaps one of the reasons he would never fully accept Yi as the future queen. Whatever the reason, he didn't like touching on such rumors that would demean his mother, despite how such a kick in the gut to Mavasu would entertain him.
Still, there remained the mare Hera, who stood before him and who had the belly to spill her opinions to him so openly. Ka's smile returned, althought there seemed to be a bit of a smirk entailed in its depths. The buckskin prince began to walk forward, and past her, stopping only briefly when his shoulder was aligned with her haunche. "Come, walk with me Hera. There is much we have yet to discuss." There was no waiting for an answer, either due to his own princehood or his cold demeanor, it was difficult to resist a request of Ka's... that honestly wasn't a request.

Hera mentally sighed as Ka confirmed to her that his siblings were indeed his parents and not some strange stallion's. 'I wonder what would happen if they really weren't,' she thought to herself. Rumors were pretty common within the mares of the herd and it was hard to tell which were true and which were false. She was glad that she had a good bond with Ka to stamp out some of the rumors before they got to the queen.
'What if those rumors had?' She shifted slightly as that thought crossed her mind. Though it was only a brief moment of that thought as it quickly vanished when she heard Ka tell her to walk with him. Snapping back to reality, she quickly trotted to his side and followed him, taking big steps to compensate for his larger gait. She wondered what else he was going to discuss with her.

Hera seemed to be on the same page as himself, the opinions on herd matters and members at least. Though Ka wasn't one to simply converse with others for no reason, he did seem to take a sort of liking to the company of this mare. Tearless as she was, he didn't rightfully care for her appearance, but that was overlooked by the intellect and opinion their conversation had downed on. One of the prince's ears twisted to the side as she made up her mind to follow him after all, though he briefly considered the idea that he may be jumping the gun on this one. Suppose that she actually was composed of the deception their herd was prone to? Perhaps she was merely telling him what she believed he wanted to hear. Hmm.
The tall stallion craned his neck slightly to eye her once more, his decision made as his logic came to him once again. He'd gotten so far in his plotting, it would best not to screw it up now with a still yet unproven mare. She'd need to earn that chance to be let into his plans. "I have enjoyed speaking with you, Hera, and I would like us to continue these brief sessions of conversations so I may better get to know who you are." It wasn't quite a request on his part, but he made his wishes respectable, never being one to down-right order around another herd member unless the situation called for it.
The buckskin continued on with his gait as he considered his next words, although maintaining a reasonable posture for royalty along the way. "Your opinions are agreeable for me, which is a rarity I'd like to keep close. Will you comply with my wish to meet again on another day?" If she did prove her worth, maybe he'd be able to jump into the next part of his plan sooner than possible. The aspect was tempting to the Katilenuck prince of morbid intention.

Hera looked at him curiously as they walked in silence for a while. She wondered what was going through his mind at that current moment. Was it his army or was it something else? Something more than that? She didn't have to wait long for him to say anything as he looked back at her. She nodded her head timidly at him, a faint smile on her maw. "And I have enjoyed your company, Ka," she said in a sweet voice.
She noticed that he continued to hold his 'princely' stance and she lowered her head down a little bit more to hold respect for his status. She didn't want anyone to see that she was going lax in front of the Prince. She flicked her tail slightly when he asked if she would comply to his wish to meet again. "It would be my honor to meet with you again, my leige," she said, spreading her wings out slightly as she bowed down to him.
