Shemshi sat quietly by herself, having just escaped the large family for a little relaxation time. In front of her, the beginnings of a new bush stuck out of the ground, only a tiny sprout. They were only a few large paces away from the front of the den, not quite as far as Shemmie had wanted to go, but when she had spotted the sprout, she simply had to stop. Most of the spirits who she talked to were much older than this one, having either already become full fledged trees or brush. This one, however, was a baby, just like she was, something that had excited the little yellow cub enough to keep her so close to the den. "Hello, little sprout." She let her head rest on the ground as she stared at it, as if waiting for a reply. "I'm Shemshi, but you can call me Shemmie. You're so little and cute."

It didn't take long for the cub to start an all out conversation with the plant, although it was one sided. That didn't seem to phase Shemmie, though, who was so into what she was doing, everything around her simply melted away. She no longer heard the spirit winds blowing her fur, or the spirit birds chirping to eachother merrily. All she saw and heard was the little sprout. It didn't actually say anything to her, of course, because spirits didn't say much. Instead, it gave her feelings of what it wanted to say. "I like you, sprout." She smiled sweetly, and continued on her conversation.

It was rare for Amadet to get any time to herself, it was a rare occurance for the whole lot of them, seeing as their family was all of 8 lions. They all made an effort, though, but sometimes it was hard to be alone when one or more of the cubs decided they wanted to follow you, or play with you. It was something their mother was getting used to, and wasted no time in cherishing for she knew her time was limited, especially now that she knew the cubs were more and more comfortable with Gharadi. It was with this in mind that she when she heard some babbling not too far from the den that Amadet went to investigate.

"Shemshi," she murmured to herself when she saw the cub out staring intently at a sprouting bush, seeming in deep conversation with her. It made her smile, and she went over to get a closer look.

"I never get to talk to baby spirits, sprout. I'm so happy I found you. Don't you have any siblings? Or a mama and a daddy?" The little cub lifted her gaze to look around for larger shrubs that might be in the area. She spotted one not too far away that might just be this little sprout's parent, if that was the way plants worked. Shemmie didn't understand much about plants, though she often talked to them. She just assumed that a baby plant would be near its parents. She didn't see any other sprouts near by, which was terribly odd. Had its siblings died? "Aww, little sprout! You're all alone!" Shemmie'd never seen another family before, so she simply assumed that all families were very large like hers. Only childs were a concept that had yet to be introduced to her.

The sound of someone coming didn't bother the cub too much. She had gone out here to get away from the tangle of her siblings for a little while, but she supposed she could handle having one of them around. Maybe she could introduce them to the spirit sprout! Turning around, a twinkle in her eye, she didn't expect to see her mom coming over. It was rare to get one on one time with Amadet since there were so many cubs. "Hi Mama. Lookit, a little sprout." She beamed at her mother and pointed out a paw towards the tiny bush.

Amadet was soon close enough to hear the conversation Shemshi was having with the little bush, though happened to not be off in the direction the cub looked when she searched for her new friend's family. It was endearing to hear the sadness in the cub's voice when she realized that the sprout must be all alone. It was good to see Shemshi cheer up a bit when she realized her mother was nearby, though.

"I see it, Shemshi," she commented with a smile, "Did you find it all by yourself?"

Shemmie couldn't help but peek over her mother's shoulder in search of siblings. She was having trouble beleiving that she really had Amadet all to herself. If it was true, it couldn't last long, right? It wasn't that she didn't mind having so many sisters and her brother, of course. She loved them all more than she could explain. It was just that... it got hard sometimes. Jealousy sets in, even with a cub so forgiving as Shemmie. It was just one of those sibling things that happened, and the more there were, the more frequent these feelings could crop up.

Finding that they truely were alone, her eyes brightened even more, if it was possible for such a deep red. "I did! I came out to talk to some spirits and there it was, all alone and little like. It's a very sweet little sprout if you get to know it." She nodded enthusiastically, even though she had just met the spirit sprout only a short while ago. Yet there she was, completely prepared to vouch for its greatness. "It's a baby spirit. I've never met one of those before. It's just like me!"

Amadet almost glanced over her shoulder to see what Shemshi was looking at, but she quickly figured it out when her daughter's red eyes turned back to her with a brighter gleam in them. Clearly she was happy to have some alone time together, it wasn't easy being a sibling to one- Amadet could easily agree with that, even more would be harder. Except Amadet was quite sure all of her cubs were much better than her sister. What Shemshi said about the spirits and the sprout made Amadet smile, it almost reminded her of the way she'd been when she was little, of her home. Except it was in a better way than the usual recollections.

"It was very nice of you to come and keep it company, I'll bet you have a lot in common," Amadet said nicely, not at all meaning it as an insult, "Why don't you introduce me?"

The little yellow cub beamed. "We sure do! We're both babies, and..." Her bright eyes turned sort of blank as she attempted to come up with something else in common. Surely there were other things, she just couldn't recall them at the moment. "Oh, we both live here! But the little sprout doesn't have a buncha sisters and a brother like me." She looked back at the sprout and then whispered to her mother, "It's alone."

Shemmie rolled her eyes at herself. Of course! Why hadn't she thought of introducing the pair yet? "Duh. Mama, this is... this is little sprout. Little sprout, this is Mama." She waved her paw from plant to lioness and then back again. She was a bit embarassed that she didn't know the spirit's name, but bounced back from the ego blow quickly. After all, they had only just recently met. There hadn't really been time for the spirit to formally introduce itself yet. Really, the conversation thus far had been more about Shemshi telling the plant about herself than the plant telling her anything. That was always the way it was with spirits she talked to, anyway. She'd have to tell them a lot about herself before they shared information about themselves.

Amadet watched Shemshi try to figure out their similarities with a smile on her face, quite amused by the one difference she pointed out and how concerned she seemed to be about how very alone the poor thing was. Amadet leaned down and licked Shemshi affectionately on the head, "Now you can come and visit it."

The brown lioness played along with her daughter's game, offering a short bow to the sprout when introduced by the yellow cub. "Always a pleasure to meet any friends of my babies," she smiled at the sprout and then looked to Shemmie for approval.

Shemshi nodded enthusiastically. "Yes, I can!" She reached up as far as she could to lick Amadet back on the cheek, but couldn't quite make it up that far. Instead, she settled for licking her upper leg. "You can come visit, too. And so can...," she faltered for a moment, wondering if she should invite her siblings into this special sprout meeting club, "so can all of everyone." She finally settled on it and nodded again, deciding that was best. Even if coming out here to the sprout was her quiet down time, the poor spirit probably needed a little more socializing. After all, it was all alone out here. "And Daddy, too!"

When her mom introduced herself to the sprout, Shemmie's belly got a warm gurgley feeling inside. She could've giggled, but she remained quiet, nodding her approval. "Good job," it was meant to be a whisper, but like any cub, it came out very loud. She then stared at the sprout, squinting a little as if in intense concentration. "Did you get that? It likes to!" Shemmie was positive she had heard it and got a little jumpy with the excitement. The spirit liked her mom! Though she hadn't heard any real words from the plant, she got feelings from it, feelings that sort of spoke if you payed enough attention.

Amadet grinned at Shemshi as she licked her leg affectionately, taking a playful swat at the cub for it before turning back to the small sprouting plant.

"I'm sure everyone would love to meet your new friend," Amadet said confidently, certain that all of her other cubs would at least humor their sister if they did not fully believe her. None of them seemed so mean as to flatly deny her. "I bet daddy would really like to see, too."

When Shemshi praised her, and declared that the sprout liked her, Ama beamed, winking at the cub.

The more she thought about it, the more Shemmie was liking the idea of her siblings coming out to see the sprout. Though she was certainly a sweet cub, she often didn't tell the others about the little spirits she talked to. When there were so many, anything she could find that could be labeled as 'hers' was treasured. Now that she really put some thought into it, though, claiming a spirit just didn't sound right. She almost felt guilty for robbing the poor things of possible new friends.

"Really?" She practically jumped at the idea of Gharadi liking the spirit. She really liked her daddy and if her mom was so happy to see the little sprout, well it only made sense! To think that both of them could be talking to it and smiling with her, it was just such a great little picture. "Maybe we should go get him."

"You think so?" Amadet asked with a smile, looking off back towards their little den, "We better go see if he's in there, he won't be too far away."

Their whole family was usually nearby, the cubs were taught not to go too far and Gharadi was very good about helping to keep them nearby and staying himself. Amadet only did it because she had to keep up the idea that there was someone out there looking for them.

"Yeah!" She twirled around in a little circle and jumped excitedly. She looked at the den expectedly, as if waiting to see Gharadi's figure just appear right there. Just as she was imagining it, she remembered the little spirit, the whole point of this excitement. Why, she hadn't told the poor sprout of her plans to go find the male! A shocked expression struck her face, and she quickly whipped around and faced the little thing. Her tail end waggled a little in the air and her front end dropped down to get to eye level.

"Okay, so, we're gunna go get my daddy. I want him to meet you. You'll just love him!" She nodded enthusiastically, and shot a glance back at her mom. Turning back, she continued, "I know you will cause we both do. And... I'm sure you'll like meeting anybody's daddy, since..." Her voice faltered a little, and she decided not to complete that sentence. She was going to say something about how the spirit didn't have a dad, but she figured it was a sore spot. "Well... I'll be back, okay? Don't go anywhere." With that, she flipped back around to face Amadet.

Amadet took a couple steps towards the den before Shemshi remembered that she should tell the little sprout where she was going. With a quiet laugh, the lioness turned to watch her daughter make sure the sprout wasn't going to leave or be offended by them leaving. It was nice to see how considerate Shemshi was, and Amadet credited it to the size of their family, partly. It was one upside to having so many, she always figured. There was always someone else to worry about, but there was also someone always looking out for you.

"Very good, dear," Ama beamed, and then continued on back towards the den to retrieve Gharadi.
