I have been playing the bari sax for a couple months, but have played the alto sax for 3 years. I really like the bari but it is really hurting my back with it's large size. any one have a solution. I play with a very coushy neck strap.

show me a pic of what you look like and like how tall (size, ect is what i need to see.) It can really mess up your back if it's hurting you now.

It's a good time.

Has anyone aside from the second poster actually read the first post? -__-;;
I haven't played the bari ever, only the alto, the tenor for a month, and the soprano for one lesson.
But anyway, the only thing I can suggest to help your problem is to have very good posture. As in being as straight as a pencil. Bad posture isn't good for your back in the first place, bad posture with something as heavy as a bari can only be worse.

when i got my school bari, i immediatly went to the music store to stock up on awesome reeds for it. anyways, when i was there, i found this strap that goes all the way around your back, and it makes it so comfortable to play that i would've played all day long! anyways, i suggest that. oh, and i agree with all of you that us female bari players are hot!! (just kidding)

In my marching band all saxes need to be uniformed, so they can't hold the bari to the side of them and have to hold it in front of them, one girl tried to do it freshman year for marching and had to switch to trombone
