(Cub owners welcome to reply if they want to once their cub is born, but don't have to - know some people hate birthing RPs! Family members too can post, but Rahima will not want males near her. XD)

As a mother of three litters already, Rahima recognised the small flurries of movement in her belly for what they were early on. This time however, there were too many to try to nickname them Bump or Kicker. And as time went by she grew larger than ever as well. Round as a full moon, as they used to say, and just as bright. She practically glowed with happiness during her last few days, reunited with Akamu'Hakan, with Ewan and Jina, and with the glorious ocean. It felt so good to be back.

It was the ocean air, bracing and salty, she breathed deeply now. The red female was wandering the sand dunes, looking for a sheltered place to have her cubs. Her time had come and she felt driven to find somewhere...somewhere soft, secret and safe. Hima had slipped away with during the early hours and it was just getting light when she found the place.

A cove, further way from the pride, that had no pugmarks and seemed abandoned. Here the sand had built up against a rocky outcrop, creating walls, and the stone made an over hang. Sometime ago a creature had gathered vegetation to make a nest and it was now dried out and perfect. This scrape would be her den. Besides, it was getting more urgent -

She lay down to wait, panting, and making no sound despite the pain. Not safe to roar and scream.

Red eyes scanned the horizon, looking for a sign of her mother. Weather it was a small red dot on the far side of the beach, or a flick her red tail somewhere on the sand. Jina's eyes looked back to the water, the soft colors of the sunrise made the blue water glisten. She shook her head, she wouldn't be out in the water.

She ran across the beach, where had she gone. The night before they were all lying together under the stars laughing and conversing about the journeys each had been through. But when Jina woke up, she was no where to be found. She had to find her. She had to make sure nothing had happened to her mother. She didn't want to loose her a second time.

"Mother..." She let out soft whispers, "Where are you." She scanned the area again. She couldn't have gone far. Her belly had gotten so big she was surprised her mother could walk. She had to find her. Jina felt like it was her responsibility to take care of her mother like she had before.

Ewan wasn't far behind his sister, likewise concerned but he'd set out after her. He had tried looking along the shore towards the Bahari'mtoto borders first. He had the same reasons as his sister. He didn't like that their mother had snuck off like that in her current state. The female 'mysteries' were just that to him. The white, black and red lion didn't stop to think that she'd probably gone away from privacy.

He wondered if Akamu was looking too. He liked the large lion that was his mother's new mate, though he had no feeling towards him like a son. He'd never known a father...but Akamu was good to his mother and that was as good.

She'd got to her feet to pace a little and to keep her nest dry, then returned to it. When the cubs started to come they'd come out quick as lightning. That's how it had always been before. Sacks and cords to break, mess to clean up and cubs to nurse. Lovely warm bundles of fur, eyes closed, utterly beautful, hungry...

Oh, she groaned, wishing it'd get started already. Then hearing a sound she lifted her head and turned how she was laying so she could get to her paws if needed.

"Whose there?" She called softly but with a snarl. Who dared? If it was some creature looking for an easy meal, the poor lioness would do her best to make it hard to get

Her pink tipped ears swerved towards the sound. That was her voice. She hadn't known it long, but she'd recognize it anywhere. After all, it was her mother.

She turned and looked to see her mother in a small makeshift den. A smile came across her maw. "It's me." She said, and slowly walked towards her mother, paws falling into the sand slightly.

Rahima straightened up her front legs to half stand, lips curled back to show her teeth and growled once - before she thought better of it and lay down once more. Her first time giving birth had been during an earthquake, with Laini birthing her cubs not two feet from her, while a group of strangers chatted nearby. Now that had been bad. This was okay. She'd let her daughter be here.

"Sorry for vanishing. Instincts you know. Not safe back there, so I found here."

She smiled softly. "Actually, I don't." She smiled. She had never known what it was like to be in love. She wouldn't let that bring her down though. Then, it hit her. She was about to have a new litter of baby brothers and sisters! Excitement filled her eyes and she smiled at her mother. "I can imagine how it would be though." She said softly.

"Imagination can't match this." Rahima chuckled, letting Jinas attention distract her from the pain.

"You know your hunting instincts? To hide and run and bite and so on? It's kind of like that. You just know what to do - you're made for it - and usually your instincts will lead you true. They gave me a hunch about Akamu, and look what a fine love he is." She stopped to adjust her position again, and remembered the first time she'd looked at the red male and felt her heart clench with a sudden rush of affection.

She smiled at the thought.

Then, the vision of a gold furred lion passed through her mind. A look of shock came across her face. "Feo!" She shouted, remembering the lion she had left behind in the pridelands. "Oh know, I feel so bad.." she said as she started to panic. She paced the sand, her tail tucked between her legs. "What am I going to do?"

"Calm down, my dear one. And please keep quiet."

Her mother pleaded. They'd talked a lot on the journey here, and from her description of him, Rahima had wondered if Jina cared for this Freo of hers. Her daughter was charmingly naive at times...but the red female was worried by the noise. Talk was fine, but if she wasn't screaming in pain by now, Jina shouldn't be so silly!

"It's obvious what you should do. Wait to see your siblings born, and then travel to find him once more."

Jina looked over to her mother, a worried look on her face. "I guess your right.." She said softly, and sat down, her tail hugging close to her. She was right. Feo would still be there when she got back. There was no need to worry. She would find him and she would apologize her heart out.

She took a deep breath, and calmed her nerves. She then looked back to her mother with a smile. "How many do you think there are?" She said, her tail tip flipping up and down lightly.

"More than two. Once I thought I always had twins and always one mostly red and one white. Nyek and Saburi, Nogea and Ewan. Until I remembered you my dear girl, single and beautifully dark." It helped to talk, it helped, she'd been at this an hour now, how much longer could it be? Rahima was breathing heavily and her voice was very quiet...but it helped to talk.

"Prooving me wrong again, this brood, since there's more than two. Maybe there's even one as dark as you, Jini." A smile.

She smiled, a small blush came across her cheeks, but her dark fur covered it. She couldn't wait. She knew the cubs were going to be beautiful. Jina was entranced when he met her mothers new mate. Their pelts together would look fabulous.

Jina looked down to her mother;s belly and wondered if she would have cubs, and if she would be so calm through the birthing.

Her daughter might call her calm, but she didn't feel it as she tried not to make any sound out of fear - and the second Rahima caught a male scent in the air she went berserk. Again she sat up and snarled an angry warning. What male dared intrude here, where females lay in wait of cubs and the air was filled with the scent of blood and new life?! If they were after a few pounds of flesh, they'd have an angry mother to deal with first...

*

Except it she was his mother too. It was Ewansiha's turn to finially find the runaway, led by the breeze, for the wind had turned and the den-scent was carried a different way. He stood framed on top of the opposite dune against the dawn sky for a moment then took a few steps down.

"Mu-" Ewan started, but as swifty interrupted.

*

"Don't come here Ewan. Wait away from here. Jina?" She growled at her very confused son then turned a pleading face to her daughter. She was under enough pressure here, make him leave! Something at the back of her mind, some instinct, screamed at the idea of males coming here now. Cub killers.

Jina caught her mother's pleading look. She slowly stood, and walked out of the den and spotted her brother. "Um.. hey." She said, giving him a small smile. "Mum doesn't feel too keen on having you around." she said, her smile fading a little. "Don't worry though, I'll look over her." Her smile widened. "I'll let you know when it's all over alright?"

"...can't I help or...?" He frowned, tilting his head just a tad. He had been worried to! Didn't seem right having both of them there but only Jina being allowed in - must be one of those silly girl things. Like that way Asherah slept so little compared to him and liked hunting a lot more. Heh. Women.

"Alright...but let me know if there's anything I can do." His tail swished as he walked away a mere four paces and lay down outside, still close. Rahima growled.
