Recently, a few of the guys in my youth group voiced their opinion as to how a woman of God should be and it was really appauling at how they believe a woman should basically be a mindless drone and the guy should rule over them.
*sighs* Breaks my heart that they think that and they're totally distorting God's Word. So, if anyone could post some parts of Scripture pertaining to how a man should treat a woman, as well as post advice, it would be greatly appreciated.
I've already done a MySpace blog pointed to them but I also need some Scripture to show them.
Once again, any info provided will be GREATLY appreciated.

Wow thats an interesting topic there DSlayerLS, especially when I myself have gone through that very subject. So the best thing I can say is what my pastor has told us. A man should love their wife/girlfriend as Christ loved the church. As well as they love themselves also. So in other words you treat that special someone as you would want to be treated as well; with love and respect.

biggrin True, true. I will give them some slack just because I think they're still trying to learn about God and what with high school being the evil mind warper it can be, they're struggling. But thanks for the reply ^^ I'll use the advice in my talk with them.

This is a topic I've had a lot of trouble with myself because Paul does say that a woman should learn in quietness and submission and that she should not have authority over a man (in regards to status in the church and the home, politics is another matter: for example the judge Deborah). However for me personally I think a lot of it also has to do with the zeitgeist at the time. The fact that Paul even suggested that woman should get to learn and that husbands should love and respect them went against the mentality of the time and was part of why the church became so popular. Back then a woman's testimony in court wasn't considered valid even. Also it was part of Eve's punishment to have to be obedient and under her husbands rule.
I had a talk with my aunt one day who is a Mennonite pastor because it had been bothering me. She said that if you looked at Corinth, (the city in which the church paul was writing to was when he talked about some of this issue), it was a sailors town as well, suggesting anything more then Paul did I doubt would have gone over well. She also said that she believed that it was about what God calls you to do. She believes God put it upon her heart to become a pastor because that's where he wanted her and so she went.
Anyway I'm not 100% exactly where on this issue I stand but I hope that it was helpful. If you're looking for verses I know there are some in Corinthians 1 (I think), Timothy 1 and I believe Ephesians as well.

I do believe a woman must answer to God first and then to her husband. And i know that many women have a problem with that. BUT if your husband is loving you like Christ loved the church, then it is all just as it should be. love ya sis! biggrin

It's great to hear that you're going to reach out to the boys in your youth group. Some scripture that comes to my mind on the topic of love would be 1 Corinthians 13. It is one of my favourite chapters of the bible, and I have pretty much memorized it.

We've been going over this in youth. (Seeing how our youth group is all girls well....)
But people these days take the Bible so literally. Really a lot of it should be taken that way, but some of it pertains mostly to what was going on at that time. Like Revelations for instance. Most people think that it's about the end of the world, but the whole idea of Rapture Theoloqy was a vision made up by a fifteen year old girl in eighteenth century Europe. Revelations is a symbolic prediction of the fall of the Roman Empire. The number of the beast '666' is actually a code. Translate Cesar Nero, the evil emperor at the time of the fall of Rome, back to Hebrew and then give each letter a number like they did back then and you've got 666.

Each book is meant to be taken according to what type of book it is. Genesis is a book of history, Job is history, Psalms are poems, Daniel and Revelation are books of prophecy.
Revelation is about the end of the times, the end of this age. The evidence is all there.
If God tells you to do something, do it; if He says something through Paul or someone else, you should go by that. The Bible needs to be taken literally in plenty of places, otherwise, why have the Word?
As for the topic on hand, you're supposed to love your wife and take care of her; she is to submit to you (support you) and give you respect. It's a two-way street. Can't say it has worked for me yet, but that's essentially what the Word says.

Anyone ever read Proverbs 31. I mean, REALLY stop and think about what that woman does for her houshold. The Proverbs 31 woman was no mindless drone. Nor was she kept pregnant, barefoot and in the kitchen. She was strong of arm, and I have no doubt that she could help protect her household if needed. I don't think that God ever meant for a woman to be any more be docile and weak when her loved ones are being threatened. She had her own income. she was out in the field she owned, wroking it. She was up before dawn and didn't sleep until well after dusk. I swear, the woman probably only gets about 4 hours a night.
It's a pretty tall order and no single woman could ever fit that but I don't think that was the point of that passage. I think that the point is that a truley God-fearing woman does what she has to to keep her family together, happy and healthy. I don't think it matters whether she is fixing the roof or cleaning the house, as long as it make things better for her family.
And completely unrelate to Proverbs, that whole "Husbands, honor your wives" bit? Treating her like an animal does her NO honor whatsoever.

Agreed with Proverbs 31.
As well as wherever "Honor thy mother and father" is. Not in the "Ten Commandments," but I believe it's also somewhere in Ephesians. It tells of how a woman is to submit to her husband as well as a man is to love his wife just as Christ loved the Church. [Or something like that]
