Okay, I read this and couldn't help laughing a bit. As horrible as it is, it's also slightly amusing. Found HereQuote: BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) -- Police said Tuesday they have arrested a woman in the abduction of an unborn baby who was cut from its mother's womb while she was unconscious. Sol Angela Cartagena said she was with her 2-year-old daughter when she had a drink at a hospital cafeteria in Girardot, southwest of Bogota, and suddenly felt lightheaded. "When I woke up I was in the countryside with my 2-year-old daughter beside me," the woman told RCN TV, adding that someone had performed a Caesarean section on her and taken her baby. Carlos Cespedes, a gynecologist, confirmed that someone had removed Cartagena's baby. Apparently Cartagena had been drugged, causing her to black out before the operation. It was unclear where it was performed, but authorities said Cartagena was lucky to be alive. "This is the strangest thing I've seen in my professional career, and I believe this patient had all the luck in the world in not dying before getting to the hospital," he said. Police officer Gustavo Silva said the woman who allegedly stole the baby was found due to tips and that prosecutors are now handling the case. People who had seen the unidentified woman with a baby wrapped in a sheet called authorities because they knew she had not been pregnant and they did not know where the baby had come from. The baby was dehydrated but otherwise reported in good condition. No other details on the case were available. Colombia has the world's highest kidnapping rate, with more than 3,000 abductions a year, but authorities said they knew of no other case here where an unborn child was abducted.

That has to be one of the bizarrest things I've ever heard (at least as far as kidnapping goes)... Good thing everyone came out okay though.

Yeah. It's Ripley's Believe it or Not material. Those things that you kinda laugh at, but they kinda freak you out and make you almost sad at the same time.

Hmm... I wonder if they consider this to be a case of the woman stealing a part of that woman's body or an actual child... I guess Caesarean section counts as being born so they'd consider it alive here in Canada at least.

alright, so a C-section counts as a birth, but pulling a baby out of a womb doesn't? I mean....one way comes out the way most natural births do, the other someone actually has to cut and all. True, the first way involves instruments and killing, but....bleck. sorry, I'm confusing me. I mean.....if it's counted as abduction do to the C, then why can't abortion be counted as murder due to killing it and bringing it out of the womb? Seems kinda double standardish.

There's been a rise in this kind of thing happening. Baby-snatching, both from womb and from crib. -shudders- It makes me worry about my own future in that respect.
I wonder if fertility rates in general have gone down?

Well....this is based on stories, which are never really scientific evidence, but Nana's been around almost a century. Maybe it's senioritis, maybe not, I dunno, but.....
Teenage girls who found themselves in trouble could often find people who wanted to adopt babies and go, give birth there, and be paid. One speculation is that as abortion becomes more available, less teen girls wanna go through the effort and those people desperate enough to buy off a girl find other ways.
But that one's ALL rumor and no backing.
And a lot of people are marrying later and fertility rates among couples seem to be kinda.....not working, but the eggs get old and children with down syndrome and other things are more likely to be born. There was a case many years ago where a woman gave birth to a child with a deformity, didn't want her husband to know because he'd kill it, and basically bought a baby off a desperate teen. Again, that was years ago and in print, not online. I could try finding it online, but I doubt I'll have much luck. Maybe,t hough, they're putting so much online. But at a certain point, the older you get, the less chances of having a baby. Biological clock still ticks, sometimes and...you want a baby.
ANd it also could be that as the population increases, the population of baby's being snatched increases, unless there's a percentage leap. Now that would be interesting. hmm, I'm so morbid, but I mean, there's also the scientific factor. There are a lot of sick ways you could use a human being that you don't care about.
And then of course the adoption system is basically corrupt. I seriously think I'll look into that one because people always counter adoption, not abortion, with saying how many kids are already in the system. They're right. There are tons of unadopted kids, but not because people aren't trying to adopt them. But that's a whole different kettle of fish.
