the 1960's brought to the theatre an explotion of absurdism. Among the foremost absurdist playwrights was Arthur Kopit whose play with the unlikely tongue-tying title "Oh Dad, Poor Dad, Mama's Hung You in the Closet and I'm Fellign so Sad" has anyone seen it or knows of any other absurd plays they like.

We just did one in our black box...I'll have to get back to you on the title. But it had a brother and a sister, both were mentally handicapped, and they were having a child together. It made hardly any sense, but then I thought and it was fine.

Do you mean absurd as in something weird for the sake of weird, or absurd as in odd things happen and are funny. I guess my favorite absurdist would be Christopher Durang. All of his shows are hilarious! My favorite would be Wanda's Visit.

Eugene Ionesco's The Chairs is a great funny play, though it has a serious theme. He also wrote The Bald Prima Donna, which is a farcical look at english manners.

Just last night I saw Marigolds! I had read it last year for a project for theatre class, but I hadn't seen it before last night. I tell you what, when you're actually watching it it's a hell of a lot more depressing.

I'm a major absurdist fan. I'm into Harold Pinter and Edward Albee. These guys are genuses.

I saw a high school production of the Bald Sopranno and I loooooooooved it (despite a few sound problems)
I also like Christopher Durang plays (I had bought a whole book of short plays by him just for 'Dentity Crisis and fell in love with the other plays too [especially the Hardy Boys one])

The only absurdist play I've ever seen really is Waiting for Godot, which is partly an allegory. I didn't really get it, but then again, that was before taking theatre courses and everything.
I've heard so much about Oh Dad, Poor Dad and I want to see it so badly!
Has anybody ever heard of some series of short plays that have something to do with a correlation between people and heads of cabbage? I believe it was written by a Canadian playwright, but I'm not sure....
