In this thread everyone should post their favorite tragic moments from anime. Even though they are very sad I think these moments really make great anime.

My three favorite such moments in anime are as listed.

Wolfwood dying in Trigun.
Sora dying at the end of .hack//SIGN (Well he doesn't really die. He is trapped within the game, and goes into a coma in real life. It is especially sad cause he is actually just a little kid in real life. 10 to be exact.)
Hughes dying in Full Metal Alchemist.

Saddest tragic moments?

In X//1999, it was... either when a 'certain loved person' dies, or the ending. Uh... can't give too much away, there, since it's not really common knowledge.

In Hoshi no Koe (Voices of a Distant Star), it was.... the ending, when a 'certain loved person' dies.

In Pale Cocoon, it was the ending, when a 'certain loved person' dies just when they've found out that life DOES have meaning.

Seeing a common thread here yet?

In Advent Children (and I'm counting it whatever anyone says!), it was the end. Especially sad if you understand WHY it was supposed to be sad.

In Witch Hunter Robin, it was the whole sequence when Amon wasn't around, and Robin just... hard to explain without spoilers, but it was very sad.

So, yeah. Endings tend to be sad. Meh, well, they're usually well worth it.

Not sure what you mean is sad at the end. I know a lot of people think it is sad because of Aeris leaving or something, but as far as that goes Cloud was mostly attracted to her because he was borrowing Zack's memories at the time. Was it something else though? There is a lot at the end.

Bad moment: Creation of Naruto

First off...I don't care if something spoils your dinner.
Second...We are speaking of tragic moments..not bad ones. That is a completely different category.
Third...Naruto is actually a pretty good show til they get too far into it. Thats when people tend to get better, then suck again so that they can get better again. But that was really probably happening because there were something like 150 filler episodes in a row...hard to be creative when the author offers nothing new. If you do not like Naruto it is probably the result of one of the following:
A. You watched the English dubbed version on Cartoon Network - This is probably the most common reason as most people who are not anime freaks end up seeing the English dubbed version first. English dubbed versions suck because the voice actors suck and the way English sounds when spoken really does not work with Japanese humor.
B. You somehow missed the humor - This sometimes happens to people when watching anime. Japanese humor is certainly much different from the humor most people are used to. However, if this is your reason, you likely do not like other anime shows either. If you do, then this is probably not your reason.
C. You think the show is childish - You fail to realize that this is only a small part of the show. Some things in Naruto may seem very childish to the untrained mind. The trained mind would see these things as...very childish. However, the things that are childish are mostly only small parts of the story. There are a lot of other elements to the show that can make it very enjoyable. These things include, but are not limited to: the humor, the style of animation, the characters and their personalities. In these things I have found reasons to enjoy the show.
D. Someone else thinks the show is childish - Yes. Some people actually base their own opinion on others opinions. It is very common for people to agree with the crowd. Even if a persons first impression of something is a good one, often the negative responses given by those who are respected, such as friends, will sway a person into believing that his own opinion is the same. This is why people say they are Democrats. (Yes there are Republicans like this as well, but Republicans, more than Democrats, tend to find things out for themselves, rather than just believing what is put in their faces by everyone around them.)

Many people, when told that they belong to one of these catagories, allow their pride to get the better of them. They often deny that these catagories are valid, and insist that the show is just stupid.

Let us hope that you do not let your pride do this to you.

That would depend on why they annoy you. Not everyone who likes Naruto can truthfully say they are not an idiot. These 'narutards' may very well be such people. I would gladly make a list of categories for those that do like Naruto, but not today.

As you can see I have listed four reasons for people to dislike the show. So no...not everyone would like it. However, if your friends want to tell you that the show is good, then they should do so by stating a few simple reasons for liking it, as well as suggest you watch the show and find out for your self. There is also a chance that such a person is only doing this because they know it annoys you. In this case we cannot prove that they are an idiot by that fact alone. It would then mostly depend on how they do this to you, their personality in other situations, and whether they are good friends of yours or not.

The only thing that should matter is your own opinion when you watch it. If you let what other people say affect your own opinion, then you are one who leans in the direction of category D. This is not something you want to do. Watch the show...and base your opinion solely on what you see. Also...only watch it in Japanese with subtitles (unless you speak Japanese of course.) English dubbing really really does not work.
Unfortunately, if you still do not like it, you will still fall into one of my categories. lol

Most tragic moment: in Berserk when Gutts, whose past is about the most tragic you can think of (makes Sauske look like a whiny emo b***h), is sold to demons for a horrible, torturous death by his best friend in exchange for power. The moment of betrayal is then punctuated by the vicious rape of his girlfriend by his former friend, which Gutts is forced to witness, despite her tearful pleading that Gutts not watch......before losing her memory and personality entirely to the trauma of it all......

Now thats tragic.
