Ok first im gonna talk about weapons and what not im gonna start with the oldest and simplest of weapons the sling , knife, club, and spear. each in its own post

The sling

The sling is one of the oldest and most wide spred weapons in use today, and it is still used alot in third world countrys, any way its a really simple weapon consisting of in its most basic form a strip of leather or cloth but better ones have a little pouch for the bullette(sp). The sling works on cyntrifical force building up speed before relasing the stone shot they are very hard to aim taking years of practice to even get them to hit the general area you want them to. both the anchent greeks, ( most greeks didn't like slingers or archers viewing them as cowards), and egyptions employed slingers in there military as anti archer and against lightly armored foes where they would be most effictive. Then there is also the famous tale of david and golaith where david brought down goliath with one shot scientists have proven that this is possible as most peiple who suffer from giagantism have thin skulls because of an enlarged petuitary gland. so in short the sling is hard to learn to use but can be very effictive in a fight.

The knife

there is prehaps no other weapon with more diversity than the knife and in this post i discuss some of the more widely known versions of the knife.

ok i think ill start with what i know best and just kinda randomly post any tidbits of knife info i can remember for now.

the stelleto- the stelleto was developed in italy to combat malianiese armor the strong thin blade being able to get into the only weak spots in such armor which were the joints and visor slits but was later used as an assians blade beacause the long thin blade could kill with out a large wound and could be hidden along the inside of some ones arm.

the scramsax -this blade was employed by the vikings and was a muli-pourpose knife much like the k-bar and bowie knife it was very blade heavy which made it easy to thrown and would punch through weak armor with ease.

the bowie knife- its orgins are actually disputed beacause some think that Bowie the guy given credit for its creatation all along might have stolen it from some one else. Anyway this knife puts the swiss army knife to shame with its verstiality it can be used as ,among many other things, a shovel, a skinning knife. a hammer, a small pan, an eating utencel and well a knife.

the kris -the kris knife is better known as the squiggly assissan knife beacause its squigilly knife used by assissans the reason why its squiggly is beacause you can slip the thin blade between ribs then turn it and pull it out and the squiggles tend to do alot of dammage on the way out.

the gut knife(i don't know what its actually called) ok this is perhaps the coolest knife to come out of europe it is long and thin with a sharp point and dull edgeses. It also has two spring loded prongs on the side and a button to deploy them with. now immagine for a second that your stabbed with this ,its not that bad of a wound stright in and there is no edge so you don't have to worry about secondaty dammage to organs right?...wrong all of a sudden the guy that knifed you pushes a boutton on the hilt pain shoots through your stomach .It makes you want to throw up , then the guy twists the knife and yanks it out causing your intestines to leave your body and you to die slowly and painfully.

more to come later....

The club this is perhaps the most basic of wepons consisting of a long blunt and somewhat heavy object but its simplicity has given way to many other weapons like the mace, flail, morning star, as well as the war hammer and others of that nature ill go over each of these on an individual basis in this post in random order later though

ok now for the slightly more advanced weapons the bow , sword, axe , hammer, and sheilds

The Bow

the bow has many veriteys all over the world but im only going to talk about the ones that could be seen in europe and some modern bows as well as cross bows will be talked about here.

the Short bow- this bow is perhaps the oldest and eaysest to make consisting of a short some what thick stick and a string of some kind not really rocket science but a great advance over the sling capable of shooting farther ,hitting hardder, and being eayser to learn to use.

the Long bow - a longer stick with string attached suprisingly only the britons figgured out that a longer stick provided more power and a greater range shows how intellegent the rest of europe was at the time the excptions would be the romans, who probally could have figured it out but just liked the plium ( a kind of javelen) better than a bow,and the greeks who didn't like ranged combat.

the Recurve Bow- brought into europe by the huns consisted of a bunch of small sticks warped together and then affixed that way with a glue made of boar fat ,hair ,marrow, and bone/tooth dust easly fired from horse back and its shape ment that less energy needed to be used up drawing the bow for power equal to or greater than a thicker bow of the same size which ment in turn it could be fired, reloaded then fired again much quicker than other bows of the time.

the Compound bow- the latest devolopment in Bow technology rather than relying on the lignth and thickness of the stick part to provide most of the power it uses a system of pulleys , ill have to look up more info on the history of this bow later.

more to come later....

The sword

there are hundereds of different types of swords in europe alone so this post is going to take me a long time to do because i don't really know alot of the names of the swords ive seen but ill try my damnednest to figure them out also for now the swords i put up are in no partucular order.

the gladius- the gladius is the sword of the roman legion its about 3 feet long (3 feet in lingth was as long as they gotmany were shorter or longer depending on the taste and measurement system of the smith) made of a decent quality steel and has a very steep point and broad middle its designed for stabing through chain mail and does a very good job of it."However it was typically 12-18" long, i.e. very short. The width was for causing maximum damage, some examples being up to 6" wide, they'd often have groves or multiple groves to prevent suckion trapping the blade."(DarklingGlory) The measurement of a yard(3 feet) came from lingth of the gladius (partly, a yard was the term romans used to describe the area they fought in [also the reason why people often refer to there property as a yard] which was the lingth of a gladius which was about 3 feet)
