And power-hungry Slytherin loved those of great ambition...|>

---|This thread is brought to you by my complete inability to write slash.

Okay, backstory time. As some of you may know if you've been talking to me a lot recently, I have been writing a real person fic (RPF) based on The Chaser. Yes, those people I've been talking endlessly about lately, that's right. It seems as though me becoming obsessed with something = me writing fic about it.

Anyway! I've written three chapters (yes, that's probably a record; I hardly ever stick with things for this long!), and now I'm stuck. Stuck like a stuck thing. Stuck like a stuck thing that is stuck...okay, you get the idea. I know where I want it to end, but not how to get there.

So, discuss: techniques for combating writer's block, the merits/demerits of writing RPF, whether or not I should find another place for my random venting and spare you all the pain of reading my posts.

1. Hold a mirror up to the page/computer screen.
2. Write while looking into the mirror.

It's practically guaranteed to cure your writer's block.

How's the writer's block going??? A good exercise I find is to make three huge lists. A list of things, like a baby, tree, Michael Jackson. A list of actions: Flies, runs, drives, teleports. And a list of places/locations with a connecting word infront: into a house, onto a boat, inside your mother. Now make the lists massive! Cut them up and place each into a seperate hat. Draw something out of each hat to construct a sentence like "Michael Jackson teleports inside your mother" and make a story based on it. This is just a little exercise to get the creativity flowing again ^^

"Michael Jackson teleports inside your mother"
Epic win!

Writer's block is gone. In fact, I am now writing ridiculous amounts. It's like reverse writer's block or something.

(I think it helps that I finally got past my difficulty with writing slash by just doing it in a roundabout-ish way. It seems to have worked, because my last...three? fics have been slashy ones and they've been fine.)

Oh, yes. Definitely. I only just finished two stories this weekend and already have ideas for a few more. It's like the attack of the plot bunnies!

Most of the time? Not too long. I write one-shots, mostly, and they're only 2k words each, at the most. (As always, there are exceptions to that rule, but that's another discussion entirely). It's just that it usually takes me forever to write something, even a short story, and be happy enough with it that I'll post it. So two stories in a weekend is really good by my standards...

Ok, fair enough ^^ I usually have good ideas for stories but never write them.

I'm usually like that. The last few days have been...odd. Exams seem to make me more creative or something, because this has happened once or twice before...

Maybe its the stress that does it?

Stress pushing on the sub-concious is why your dreams get whacky at times, and if this happens then stress flooding you with ideas isn't too crazy. It also can send your mind running way too fast (usually in bad ways) so it makes alot of sense.
