Yesterday, I got the 50th Anniversity Issue of Anime Insider. They posted a list of the top 50 Animes. I was outraged to find that Gundam Wing wasn't on the list, but Gundam 0080: War in a Pocket was. That has to be the worest Gundam series I've ever watched. I can sit and watch any Gundam series over and over again. I saw that one once and refuse to ever watch it again. The rest of the list had bunch of ok animes, although I wish people would let Astroboy die. People please forget about Astroboy. Just so people don't get upset: i'll watch any anime once and usually like most animes, but there are a few I just can't stand. And when I see Great Anime being past over by those few, I just get really angry.

That is kind of upsetting...I guess people think Gundam Wing's old and the characters don't develop their personalities, etc...But I don't care about that. I like the anime just the same...and Astro Boy...I don't think I could watch that...it just looks, stupid...just the artwork.

The original anime, it's artwork was inspired by Walt Disney's style of art. I've been meaning to watch it, myself.
I also agree on 0080 - I even like SEED better (don't know about Destiny though...)

I turn my nose up in disgust at both of you. Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: A War in the Pocket ranks close to the top of my list.
Don't take any of these lists too seriously. The magazine has to play to current sensibilities: otherwise it just seems out-of-touch with the fan community. It's been the "cool" thing to pick on Gundam Wing and its fans for years, so it doesn't surprise me that it's not in the Top 50 list.
Though, to tell the truth, I doubt they'd put it in the Top 50 even if it did command the fanbase it once enjoyed.

Yeah, Top lists are usually giant popularity contests. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Fullmetal Alchemist or Inuyasha were at the top of that list; both are probably in the top 5 at least (and I'd have a pretty big problem with the latter being that high, but not the former).
But Gundam 0080 is pretty universally well-liked because it places emphasis on an area that Gundam sometimes neglects: the "little people" who get caught in the war. Both Federation and Zeon are portrayed as sympathetic (with one or two exceptions), and it gives a more realistic look at the harshness of war than most Gundams do. Sure, it's not the most action-packed series, but it has it where it counts.

FMA was a short series though...so unless they make more episodes/mangas and actually release them in the USA without everyone having to order them online...that anime might a few years from now end up missing from the list too for all we know...
Or it might not. Who knows...

I got a free game magazine at either EB games or Gamespot and it said Sora was one of the top ten dorks...I think he was either 6 or 4...but I don't remember.
It's off topic a bit but not completely cause I guess we are discussing magazines XD.

Interesting Top List results; on Gamefaqs.com last poll the Tetris L Block won.

I was a little dissappointed in that list as well. Although it did have some great things on there such as Giant Robo and Castle of Cogliostro.

0083 was much better to boot. I wouldn't have been surprised if that had made it.
But of all the Gundams... really? Tell me this is a prank or something.

I read that list and well i was proud that a gundam show even made it in there. I was also happy that my favorite ova made it in there ((Rurouni Kenshin: Trust and Betrayal)) but I liked their pick for #1-Cowboy Bebop

Cowboy Bebop? Wha? Sure it's entertaining, but a lot of it is just stylish fluff. I've probably got a half dozen choices that I'd put higher than it (though a lot that would also end up lower).
Lessee... looking at the list.
Escaflowne at 50... works, I guess, though I'm sure that there are better choices.
Princess Mononoke definitely belongs on this list.
Trigun... ehhhh... I liked it, but not thinking top 50 material, never mind 34.
Samurai Champloo not in the top 10 is a crime. I generally describe it as: Cowboy Bebop with Samurai and hip-hop, only better.
Patlabor Movie 2: Hum. That high? Really? I liked it, but I didn't know that it was that popular.
Paranoia Agent was cool, but that high? It's got some flaws that I don't think would let it be that high. Def. a popularity inclusion.
Yes, GitS:SAC is amazing. One of my favorites.
Grave of the Fireflies I own, but haven't watched because I don't want to just watch it by myself, but I'm not sure who to watch it with >_>
Nausicaa. Yes.
FMA. Maaaybe. Def. top 50, probably good at 11.
Macross Plus? Hubba wha?
Akira is interesting and though provoking, but way too damn popular for its own good.
Evangelion. Love the show, despise the general fandom. Not top 10 material, much as the fans would like you to believe.
For a goofy side project, FLCL sure is one helluva popular anime. I'd probably not place it in the top 10, but it belongs somewhere on the list.
Again, Cowboy Bebop at one. Maybe... in the teens, but not number one, please.
I've seen less than half of this list, but at least heard of all of it.
THINGS MISSING:
Gunslinger Girl is better than half of this list at least. Only, it doesn't have a massive fandom. We need a group of independent writers who don't care about sales to make a similar list (and define what makes an anime top 50 - is popularity a factor?)
Maybe Fist of the North Star? They needed at least one token "Badassery over substance" martial arts anime, and it certainly takes the cake for that category.
Death Note, but that's only just airing here. If they redid this list a year from now, I'd be happy to see it in the top 20 (but not top 5). Same with Claymore, just back those numbers up by 5 each.
Thank goodness they left out DBZ, Yu Yu Hakusho, Inuyasha, Naruto, One Piece, and the Rurouni Kenshin series. Though, Naruto is the only one I just listed that hasn't been getting a lot of heat in recent years, and even then Narutards have a sorta bad rep. with a lot of people.
Kenshin, Inuyasha, and DBZ were repetitive, and dragged way too much, and YYH dropped off in quality too much after the Dark Tournament to be justified. One Piece and Naruto are falling into the same trap as RK, IY, and DBZ, though at least Naruto is still holding my interest in the newest manga updates.
Bleach might actually be good enough to scrape off a 40's spot by the time its finished. All depends on how much longer it goes and how it all wraps up, I think.

Go read the manga until the Shishio fight ((I found it better in the series than in the manga)).
