Mafuriko was on a mission to help cheer up his sister, and he couldn't really think of a good way to do that so he had quickly decided that he had to recruit help. Not want to go to his brothers and get made fun of, he had to go for someone who he figured was easier to boss around and more likely to be good help. Mira was a girl, and smaller than him- she was the best candidate he could think of! Habu might have been good help, too, but he'd already mentioned feathers and Mira might have better ideas of what a girl would like.

He just had to hope that she wasn't too hard to find.

Logic brought him first to the den of Kizamaji and Sheshe. At first glance, it didn't look to him like anyone was outside so he crept towards the entrance quietly. Peeking in, he called out carefully, "Miiiiira! Are you there?"

Mira was hunkered down in the back of the den, front to the ground and rear end up and wiggling in the air. A fat, shiny bug had crawled onto her nose and interrupted her nap and woken her up, and now had turned into an entertaining toy. The cub was juuust about to pounce on it again when a familiar voice echoed through.

It was her uncle! And that was much more exciting than a bug, even if it was a shiny one. Forgetting her game entirely, she bounded out with a happy cry, "Uncle Mafuriko!"

There was only a short pause between Riko's call and the reply- which made the small lion puff up importantly. His confidence in his plan went way up when his small niece appeared. He hopped back a bit, grinning widely at her.

"Mira! You have to help me with something," he announced, not really seeming to give her much of an option in the matter, though saying no would be simple- Riko would just argue.

Fortunately for Riko, Mira was an easy one to rope into doing things - most of the time, saying 'no' just didn't occur to her, unless maybe she was being asked to do something she wasn't supposed to. Even then, her cousins Rudo and Abrafo could probably persuade her into following along, and chances were her uncle had the same sort of pull.

"Okay!" she agreed enthusiastically, bouncing on her forepaws. "Whatcha need~?"

At Mira's excitement without even knowing what they were going to do, Riko suddenly felt more excited himself. Cheering up Kiwi should be easy, especially if Mira was this enthusiastic about helping him, she must want to help her aunt Kiwi just as much.

"Well! I want to make Kiwi a gift," he explained brightly, still grinning, "She's been having nightmares, and I want to cheer her up. Your a girl, so I want you to help me think of something. Bubu said feathers would be good, so something with feathers maybe."

Bubu! That nickname for her older brother always made her giggle. "Aunt Kiwi needs help?" Mira looked suitably worried. Nightmares were awful! Scooting closer to mom usually helped, though. "Umm..."

The cub sat and thought for a moment, tail twitching busily. "Feathers are nice. Flowers are pretty too, though!"

"Yes, but when we get her present, she can cheer up and stop thinking everyone is going to disappear," Riko replied confidently in response to Mira's concern for Kiwi. He was positive his plan would work, so he didn't think there was too much reason to worry! So Mira shouldn't worry too much either.

"Ok, something with feathers and flowers," he nodded, "Let's go look for some." Riko turned around and skipped off to look for some feathers and flowers. He didn't know how they would find feathers, but flowers wouldn't be as hard.

"Okay!" Mira chirped again, skipping happily after Riko. They were going to find pretty things, and they were going to help Aunt Kiwi! How much better did it get? "There's flowers over by the waterhole," she suggested.

As soon as Mira suggested the waterhole, Riko nodded and immediately turned to go off in that direction. It was good thinking, not only could they find flowers but there was always the chance that they'd find some birds to get feathers from. And if there were no birds, there could be feathers. It was a generally busy place, so why not?

"Good thinking!" he said, "Maybe we'll find feathers, too."

Riko had no idea what they would do with these feathers and flowers, seeming to work under the assumption that once they had the items the needed it would simply all come together.

Mira loved the waterhole - there was always something going on! It was amazing. She wasn't too keen on swimming, not after she'd been told that sometimes there were things in the water that could eat you, but it was still fun to look at! Shiny and all that.

"How d'you get feathers offa birds?" she asked curiously.

Riko's mind was focussed only on the task he had set out to do, trying to mentally envision ways to to fit feathers and flowers together to be something pretty that Kiwi would like. A flower made of feathers would be neat, but they probably wouldn't find any colorful feathers- and if they did, how would it stick together?

When Mira asked about the feathers, Riko almost stumbled as he realized he didn't quite know- however, he was quick to think of something so it didn't seem like he didn't know.

"You could pull them off," he said with a matter-of-fact nod, "Or maybe scratch, like how you sometimes get loose fur off when you're itchy.."

"So..." Mira trailed off as they walked, lost in thought about the serious matter of getting feathers off of birds. "We umm...find an itchy bird? And scratch it?"

Made sense to her! It shouldn't be too hard, anyway - who didn't like having help scratching their itches? It felt soo nice!

Riko glanced over to Mira when she trailed off, and gave an approving nod to her idea of finding an itchy bird. If it wouldn't let them scratch it, they could just try to catch it! It was really very simple. And of course, worst case scenario they found other feathers or asked nicely- though that was not something Mafuriko was well practiced in.

"Yes! So let's hurry!" he said eagerly, and turned back to the path they were taking and starting to run.

Thankfully, Mira could take care of the asking nicely part; if there was anything she was good at, it was being sweet and likable - not that she made an actual effort to be so, it was just the way she was. She was not, however, quite so long-legged or fast as her uncle yet, and was forced to scramble to keep up with the older lion.

"Wait up!" she panted.

Riko had trouble realizing when he could so easily outrun someone, it had happened not too long ago with Kiwi- and she was just about his size, but stumbled a fair bit. He almost didn't notice Mira's calling for him to wait up, but with a quick glance back he knew he had to slow down if he wanted Mira to help. And though he wouldn't admit it, Habu reminding him that he should wait for Kiwi when she was behind stuck in his mind. It applied now- Kiwi and Mira were the only girls he liked anyway, may as well be nice.

"We're almost theeere," he said, taking in a deep breath when he waited for Mira to catch up again. While his focus was not necessarily on getting there this second, he glanced around them to see if there were any good sources of feathers around yet- but it didn't look like it. Not within their reach anyway, for there were birds flying high above them.
