Dad and Tulia were off on their own again, and Mum was back in the den with Meme almost sick in her general anxiety- and Mnyama was too bored to deal with it and carelessly decided that she would go off on her own and look for something exciting to do. Born into a very safe environment, with two parents who loved her and a wonderful lioness as a protective "aunt".. nothing could ever harm her or her family, Mnyama was sure! Mummy was off her rocker to worry so much- Tuli was with dad, dad was big and strong, and in general (judging by Memetuka) everyone here was very nice. And so Mnyama scurried enthusiastically through the tall grass of the Pridelands. She was a small black fuzzball that was not hard to hear, but was actually difficult to spot through the grass (especially while moving). Worried that she might miss something exciting if she didn't stop for a moment to take a look around, the small hare did her best to scramble to the top of a rock that just poked out of the grass to get a look around. Nothing too obvious, as far as her pink, untrained eyes could tell. "Hellooooooooo!" she called out loudly, willing someone fun and exciting to pop up, "Come out, come out, wherever you are!"

Chafi bounded effortlessly through the Pridelands savannah, simply enjoying herself. She had no where to be, nothing to do, and so was just having fun doing what rabbits did best: feeling the wind between their ears and jumping high over the grass before hitting earth again. In their own way, hares could fly. Chafi was sure of it. They didn't need wings to do it, they just needed their powerful legs. There was so much to be proud of in those legs. They were better than wings, even. A bird is awkward on ground, but a hare has grace on earth, in air and even in water should the occasion call for it. (Chafi would honestly prefer not to swim, but sometimes a hare's gotta do what a hare's gotta do.)
She would've kept up her happy frolicking for hours if it hadn't been for the sudden call. She slowed her bouncing to a stop, pausing to look around for the source of the call. It sounded so young, were their cubs nearby? The green hare managed to look in just the right spot to find the little black head poking out of the protection of the grass. A little hare? Ohh, Chafi's day just got far more exciting. It'd been a while since she'd come across any hare at all, much less a little one. She hadn't heard about any new litters through the grapevine yet. "Hey there!" She took a few extra leaps in the direction of the child, a wide smile on her face. "Are you alone?" There was a hint of concern in her voice, but not too much. Depending on the age, this little one might be perfectly fine out on her own... even if she had just completely given away her position to the entire world. Something she'd have to work on, but Chafi figured she had time.

Mnyama watched the grass impatiently, tapping one long foot as she did. If nothing fun popped out, she'd just have to go home and wait for Tulia to come home so she could drag her off to play. When something finally poked out of the grass, the small hare grinned- until she realized it was another hare. That was very uninteresting! Why couldn't she find something different? Even another lion would be more interesting than another hare, auntie Meme was not very interesting.
When Chafi got closer, Mnyama noted that, at least, the stranger was an interesting color. Her whole family was black and white.
"Yeah," she called back down from her rock, not at all concerned with the fact she was alone and more interested in the stranger, "Who're you?"

Chafi hopped a few paces forward, drawing closer to the little one. Her gold tiped ears swivled around and her eyes darted over their surroundings. Where were this kitten's parents? If Chafi had a litter, she doubted she'd leave them alone in the savannah. Or maybe she would, depending on how old they were. Considering how much time the hare spent thinking out things to do in the future, she was surprised she didn't have a definite answer this time around. She'd have to think more about babies sometime later. For now, though, she had someone to entertain.
"I'm Chafi. And who are you?" She sat back on her large hind legs, getting comfortable. The hare was fully prepared to stay with this kit until her mother came around, or until the kit decided to jump off home. Even though hares had plenty of ways of keeping safe, Chaf didn't feel right about leaving a baby out here all alone. The Pridelands were pretty safe, sure, but it still had its predators. "Where's your mama, little one?"

"I'm Mnyama," Mn introduced herself in a very matter of fact voice. If nothing else, she didn't sound at all concerned about being out there all by herself- which perhaps could have been more concerning than if she was at least showing some signs of being careful. She was the exact opposite of how her mother had been at her age, and how her mother was being now. Of course, Mnyama had never witnessed anything quite like her mother had, and lived in a fairly safe and happy environment.
"Mama's back at the den, she doesn't really like to come outside," the little bunny explained , flopping over to lay on the rock she was perched upon, "It's pretty boring, so I thought I'd come out and look for something fun to do. You're funny colors, my whole family is white and black. Unless you count Meme, she's gold, but she's a lion.."

"Nice to meet you, Mnyama." Chafi bowed her head politely. She found it a little odd that the kit was running around outside while the mother was back at the den, but she shrugged it off. "My mama didn't get out much when I was a kit, either. There were too many of us." She had been part of an abnormally large litter, and though her mother hadn't been afraid to leave the den, she hadn't really had much of a chance to. When she wasn't watching the kids, she was cleaning up after them.
"You live with a lion, hm?" Chaf knew some rabbits paired themselves with larger predators for companionship or protection (or both), but she'd yet to do it. Her family had been independant of lions for the most part, so she hadn't really felt the need. Then again, though, it might be fun. Not that hares needed lions, but it still sounded interesting. "What does she do for you guys?" She realized that asking a kit this might not get her a usable answer, but at the least it would move along a conversation.

Mnyama beamed proudly when Chafi said it was nice to meet her and bowed her head, only barely stifling a giggle. When the green hare started to talk about her own family, Mnyama plopped down onto the rock in a seated position to listen- and she immediately shook her head when Chafi described her mother staying inside because there were so many of them. That definitely wasn't the case with this kitten's mother.
"There's not a lot of us in my family, just me and Tuli," she explained brightly, "Mama's just afraid that something'll happen to her or to us, but she's just been silly. No one's really bothered me, you're the only thing who's come near me!"
The kitten nodded brightly, as if the fact she hadn't been hunted yet was definitive proof that her mother was crazy.
"Meme is just like, part of the family, she's really nice," Mnyama explained, clearly not understanding the entire meaning of having a lioness as a good friend. She hadn't yet even tried to use Meme as a way to convince her mother to come outside.

"Well I suppose your mama is some right, at least. She just wants the best for you, surely." Chafi nodded once, her ears flopping forward a little as she did. "If I had a kit as cute as you, I'd be awful protective, too." Chaf was buttering the little one up a bit, but she wasn't lying, either. If she ever did breed (and she didn't doubt she would, either), she'd probably watch them like a hawk for the first little while. There are so many things out there that find a baby hare to be just the perfect snack. It was a problem the green hare wished greatly to fix, but she knew that wouldn't happen. At least in her life time.
A lion as part of the family. Now that was something Chafi really hadn't considered. Though she thought pairing up with a feline might be interesting, she wasn't all that sure she'd welcome one into her family. It might sound a little specie-ist of her to think those things, but it was just that she was having difficulty considering a potential predator as family. Then again, she hadn't been raised that way. "That sounds lovely." Suddenly bored of this topic, she switched gears. "Does your father live with you?" Chaf was well aware that hares often mated and then parted ways, but occasionally they stuck together. Perhaps, with the lion there, a more rounded family had formed.

Mnyama stuck her tongue out and did her best to blow a raspberry at Chafi saying that her mama was right to worry. The small hare knew of the possibilities, but didn't see them as very likely or as anything to truly worry yourself over. After all, in her own experience everyone was quite friendly and no one ever bothered her! With that rude little sound, or what she managed, Mnyama was sure that that topic was ended and happily moved onto the new topic with Chafi.
"Yep!" she replied brightly, "Dad's all black, with grey swirls on his feet and ears. I don' have any, but Tuli has some on one of her ears and her eye. I'm like mama, just black instea' of white."

Chafi couldn't help but smile to herself at the picture Mnyama was painting. It seemed like an adorable little family, one that actually was.. family-like. She didn't think she'd ever have a cutsie little family image like that, though she was a hopeful future-mom. When that would happen she couldn't say, but she would like to have a litter at least once. It was just one of those things that hares did, y'know? Make babies and be happy! A bit of a stereotype, but Chaf really didn't mind. It wasn't a bad stereotype, so it was good.
"I bet your mama's awful pretty." She nodded enthusiastically. In all her life, she'd never seen an all white hare. Her dad didn't sound that bad looking either, though she was a bit surprised two baisically solid hares had hooked up. It was almost like a couple from a story or something. With so many hares out there being covered in markings (or at least having a few of them), for two baisically solid ones to find eachother and start a family was perfect. And it only added to their cuteness. "Do you all get along well enough?"

Mnyama beamed when Chafi smiled, more than happy to talk about her family She cared about them, even if she seemed to enjoy skipping out for the day and playing on her own despite how her mother might feel about it. She couldn't help that it was much more interesting than sitting around worrying with mama.
The dark hare grinned when Chafi said her mother must be pretty, for Mn agreed- and knew that she looked a lot like her mother. Her and Tuli both did! So, of course, she took it as a compliment.
"Well, mama doesn't like me going off on my own," she admitted when asked if they get along, "But she doesn't really get mad about it. What about your family?"

Chafi smiled a little at the idea of her own family. They were an independant bunch, that was for certain. She didn't really see them around much anymore. It wasn't that she tried to not see them, it was just that they had all gone on to do their own things. "Well, I had several siblings. They're all... oh they must be somewhere near the Pridelands, I imagine." She looked off into the distance for a second, as if trying to find a relative.
"I want to have my own kits some day, though. It sounds like such a great idea. I'm sure your mama loves having you and your sister around." Two kits must be a handful, but at the same time Chafi imagined they'd be a lot of fun. Active little things, babies were. She could picture herself running all around the Pridelands with them.

The small hare wiggled her toes cheerfully and looked around as Chafi did, wondering if she might spot some other brightly colored hares around. It was so odd to the hare that came from such a dull family, even Meme wasn't very colorful- but at least she wasn't black or white! She was a bit disappointed that no one appeared, though it surprised her. After all, she'd started this by looking for something other than a hare!
Mnyama turned back to look at Chafi as she described her desire to have kittens, which caused the young hare to wrinkle her nose.
"Mama loves us, but I think she worries too much," she said confidently, with a very matter-of-fact nod.

From what Chaf ad heard, she had to agree with Mn's assesment. She really didn't want to judge the white female too harshly, though, since they had yet to meet. Maybe some day... In the mean, time, though, Chaf couldn't help but compare herself to the other. When she became a mom, she doubted she'd be so protective. Baby hares need to explore the world around them. Safety first, of course, but they had to learn how high they could jump and how fast they could run in order to be truely safe, right?
"At least you know she loves you. There are some mothers out there who don't really care much for their children." Chaf tried to make the bright side easier to see for the youngster. "I'm sure y'all must have some fun together."

"Yeeeeah," the hare agreed, but with a tone clearly indicating some part of her was still disagreeing with Chafi, "But she'd be a lot more fun if she wasn't so 'fraidy. Mothers are supposed to care for their babies, that's how it works- why would anyone not care?" The idea was totally foreign to Mnyama, where she had one parent that cared almost too much and the other that certainly cared, even if he wasn't so extreme.
