OK, on Friday I was told about two boys aged 6 and 7 who had been killed as they tried to cross the motorway. Everyone gossiped about it all day as the motorway is right by my parents house, and so the area etc is familiar. So anyway, as the day wore on it became clear that drivers on the motorway had seen the boys and had phoned emergency services. Which is fair enough, but why didn't any of these people think to pull over and tell the boys to go home? It's just been bugging me ever since. Anyway, just my little rant; got to get it off my chest. Here's the link to the news story if anyone is interested; Click here

That's sad. sad I wonder what they were doing. I wonder if I would have stopped.

Well (like I said, happened locally, I know their teacher). Apparently all three boys were lost and on seeing the lights at Preston Brook two of the boys decided to cross the road. But the 7yr old Dad has been interviewed and he said that his son was scared of the dark but also that since they lived so close to the road he had warned him to stay well away

you have to wonder too, if several people saw the boys and called in to emergency services, why didn't the emergency service respond?

while I still think someone should have stopped, it's also unlikely that the boys would have listened, or the person who stopped may have gotten an ear full from the boys parents for trying to discipline the boys, or in worse case scenario arrested because the boys said they were being sexually solicited when they were just being told to get away from the motorway.... theres more reasons not to stop than to stop.
though it is unfortunate and a horrible, very preventable tragedy.

The Police did respond but they were just too late. They were already out looking for them at the time, at least one of the boys was supposed to be home at 5pm, and had his older Brother, Father and most of his neighbours out looking for him.

I was in the airport once, at the queue for check in and there was this little boy of about three walking up and down between a row of chairs crying. I waited for a bit to see if he'd just been told off by his parents but then realised he was lost and took him to look for his Mum, handing him over to the first member of airport staff that I saw. - I got back in the queue and the woman behind me basically said that she'd realised that he was lost but hadn't wanted to get involved. I personally will always think it's worth taking the chance that leave a child sobbing

Not really, just got an over active imagination, and couldn't bare the thought of not saying anything then hearing afterwards what happened. I'm the sort of annoying person who see's people walking around the side of houses and goes to check that the actually live their and aren't a passing murderer/rapist
