History: Sa'Banji was born after his twin brother, Ra'Inji into the Royal Family of Enhyen'deima. As first born, Ra'Inji was the successor to the throne. As the second born, it was made sure that Sa'Banji would never pose a threat to his brother. The Royal Magickers removed the fourth talon on each of his limbs, and turned his scale color to pure white, the color of servitude. This symbolically made him unfit to ever obtain the throne, and therefore, no threat. However, his low status brought the unwanted attention of the Nobility. Those that did not treat him with contempt usually ignored him, for the lowest born of the Noble Houses had a better chance of obtaining the throne than Sa'Banji.
In a way, Sa'Banji had far more freedom than Ra'Inji, who was bogged down from day to day in ceremonies and learning how to rule Enhyen'deima. Sa'Banji was free to study what he wished and ignore that which bored him. As a child, one of his favorite things to do was to fly, and he quickly became enamored of the sport, Ayl'toman, where one or several dragons twirl in upon themselves, barely avoiding colliding with one another or tying themselves in knots, to create intricate patterns.
After his first century of life, Sa'Banji underwent the Official Ceremony to Adulthood, and found that his freedom had been cut severely. Officially, the reason was that he was to help Enhyen'deima by serving as he could. The real reason was that the Royal Family feared that the Nobility would seek to use Sa'Banji in an attempt to overthrow the Throne, and sought to keep an eye on him.
Sa'Banji suffered. Not only was he expressly forbidden to leave the Royal Palace, but he saw much more of Ra'Inji, who was jealous of the freedom Sa'Banji had enjoyed as a child. Ra'Inji acted against Sa'Banji in a variety of ways, from embarrassing him in Court to quiet scuffles in the halls of the Palace that left Sa'Banji with a few scars. Ra'Inji never took part in the actual fights, but he made sure to be there to rebuke Sa'Banji for doing anything so unsightly as fighting the Nobility.
The conflict between Ra'Inji and Sa'Banji slowly grew worse, until, one day when Ra'Inji "accidentally" spilled ink upon the manuscript Sa'Banji had spent months laboring over. Lunging at Ra'Inji, Sa'Banji seized his brother's antlers in his talons, and broke one off.
For daring to attack the heir, Sa'Banji was officially disinherited, the symbol "dishonor" magically branded beneath his left eye, and sent far away to serve in the Army.
Stationed on the front lines of a long standing war between Enhyen'deima and one of the attaching realities, Sa'Banji received contempt from his fellow soldiers for his brand, and for being a "pampered royal brat". Although there were bets that Sa'Banji would be killed within days of joining the war, the skills he learned doing Ayl'toman, and his ability to learn quickly kept him alive, barely. He received a great number of lasting scars, and a lot of experience to go with them.
After several years at this, Sa'Banji took the opportunity to desert the Army during a battle, and flew as fast and as far as the winds would take him. Complete freedom was heady for the first few days, but Sa'Banji quickly found that he wasn't suited for a life in the Wild, and, upon returning to civilization, realized that the Royal Family was looking for information on him. So, Sa'Banji began to look for a way to completely leave Enhyen'deima and the realities surrounding it.

Personality: Sa'Banji, who much prefers to be called Sanji now that he's gotten out of the Palace, has been heavily affected by his life in his Family's Court. He has issues with self-confidence due to the contempt he received daily from the Nobility and his Family, and has a very hard time trusting anyone, even those he's known for a long time.
Family to him means little more than a nest of dangerous intrigue, and friends are just people that try to get something from him. However, this thought is mostly just a reflex from his past. His mind knows that cannot be true for everyone, and that he should remain open, but years of having to defend against all sides has raised some walls that will be difficult to lower.
There are times that the walls will lower. This mostly happens when he's flying and practicing Ayl'toman, since both of those activities remind of his happier childhood. At these times, he's very relaxed and talkative, even playful. He's also incurably curious about places, things, and people that aren't his home world, asking questions almost to the point of his listener going insane.
At times, he can be incredibly naive. While living in the Army toughened him up to a point, he was Royalty for a time, and was used to, if not respect, than plentiful food, and shelter. He also tends to treat money as if it grows on trees.
Likes: Ayl'toman, Flying, paint, reading, learning, performing, art, salmon Dislikes: Aristocrats, arrogance, people interfering with his work, being cooped up somewhere where he can't see the sky, army rations Hobbies: Flying, practicing Ayl'toman, researching ways to remove the brand and change his scale color, carving wood
Strengths/Abilities: First and foremost is his flexibility and dexterity while flying. Being an Eastern Dragon, he is inherently magical, which allows him to fly without wings. Since he isn't burdened by the physiological limitations of winged creatures, he's capable of carrying fairly heavy weights while flying. His limit right now is about 400 lbs, roughly two grown human men. Being exceptionally limber, he can literally tie himself into knots, though generally doesn't like doing so, since it can be tricky untying himself. Being a member of the Royal Family also means that his magical potential is greater than most of his kind, but being the Amkh, he was forbidden from studying it. Nothing is stopping him now, though.
Weaknesses: It isn't apparent while he's flying, but when Sanji is on the ground, he favors his front left leg, which received a particularly nasty bite wound while he was in the Army. He hopes that the limp isn't permanent, but only time will tell. The limb can be trusted to pull heavy loads, but putting too much weight on it can cause it to collapse.
Sanji also has some self-confidence issues that almost border on an inferiority complex. Having been used to being treated as a Lesser dragon by pretty much everyone he interacted with on a daily basis, he lacks confidence in his most of his abilities, save when it comes to flying.
Sanji's temper is very short. It was frayed to the point of extinction by Ra'Inji, and he needed the anger during his stay in the Army, but it's a liability in his social life. Any hostility directed towards him usually results in a verbal snap, and sometimes a physical one if he feels threatened. However, he rarely holds grudges. His greatest anger is held towards his Family, and his brother, so he doesn't waste the energy it takes to really work up a good hate against anyone else.
It should also be noted that he is being pursued by his Family, who know he's alive for some reason. One of Sanji's worst fears is that they'll send someone to kill him, since he didn't die like he was supposed to in the Army. Unknown: The brand also acts as a weak signal. As long as he's alive and has the brand, they'll know he's out there.

Stage 1: Helping raise/lower tents. Carrying things. Flying advertisement banners around like a bi-plane on the more magical worlds. Carrying people, or getting needed things from the nearest town. Assisting in handling the larger animals. Bouncer. twisted
Stage 2: Performing Ayl'toman in the big top, perhaps a partner act on type B and C worlds. Sideshow attraction in Type A worlds. "Feng Shui mysterious dragon, last of its kind, brought all the way from the Orient!"
Stage 3:Possible magic, if he learns any? Definitely flying.

Yay, Zee! I think it's really creative to go for a non-humanoid character, particularly an eastern dragon, except... He looks a little lot like Haku from Spirited Away, be that intentional or accidental. He's such a great character otherwise that the appearance feels a little detracting. (I'm not telling you to change it, just pointing it out.)
I really, really like his history. It's like nothing we've seen before around here and looks like crazy!fun. (And his stage name = totally awesome. smile ))
The personality, likes, hobbies, etc all check out nicely, as do the abilities. So really? My only gripe about this concept is that he looks like Haku, and that's hardly a gripe at all.
Good luck! smile

Thanks, Silvy!
I did realize when I was coloring him that he looked like Haku. And really, I personally love Miyazaki's interpretation of the Eastern Dragon, so that also influenced how I drew him.
I really want him to be white, at least in the beginning. Would it help if I changed his mane color?

Well, his original scale color is yellow, so maybe purple? Or is that still too Haku-ish?

No, that's not too haku-ish. Haku is aquamarine and white, and once you're away from that you should be fine.
