The sun was bright and high in the sky as Nariko had walked out of the family den. It had been a couple of days since he last played with Sarakiva, and she had grown taller since he first met her. His mother was still sleeping and his siblings were off somewhere. He went towards the watering hole to lap up some water and get a start on this day.

Sekizen, tired, stepped out of his recent den. He'd been leaving late at night and sneaking back to his home den early in the morning so he could be with the lioness he'd brought back to the Pridelands with him... To be with Malika. She could see through his walls, very much unlike any other creature he'd met. Sekizen had always been able to pull a mask on and keep anyone out. Anyone but her, from the very instant he'd met her, really.

It was a bizarre feeling that left him with quite an odd sensation... He sat by a waterhole, one near which he'd met a lioness by the name of Sineri quite a long time ago. At least, it seemed long ago... His mane was full now, and he couldn't help but wonder as he stared back at that face with the black lightning bolt on it, was he different than he had been as a cub? Was he the same lion? He loved his childhood, as quiet and lonely as it may have been... That was kind of how Seki liked it anyway, sometimes. Quiet and lonely, a wonderful place for thoughts and musings. He touched his black paw so softly to the water's surface, barely getting a ripple from the action. He stared back into his own eyes, pondering if he was the same lion as he had always been... Seki feared change secretly, but of course, never let a soul see it. (Save for Malika, he couldn't hide ANYTHING from her.)

Upon coming close to the watering hole, Nariko's green gaze landed on one of his brothers. He knew instantly from the white pelt that it was Sekizen. And, with a matching mane as his, it was no secret that the two had grown into fine lions. Padding over to his brother quietly, the gray and black male couldn't help but let a small smile work it's way across his features. He sure has soften a bit since he's grown up, leaving behind that shy and timid cub. Noticing the ripples on the water's surface and his brother's paw in the water, it would appear that Sekizen was lost in thought or thinking rather deeply. He came along side Sekizen, "Hey Sekizen."

Yes, he had changed. The more he thought about it, the more he realized that truth. For instance: he thought to himself. Seki was always in thought, and that had never changed, when I was a cub, my typical "default" face was completely neutral, but now I've replaced it with a rather cheery disposition. Probably because nowadays, I'm typically cheery... He was beginning to mull over how he decided he felt at the moment about his constantly-absent father when he heard a familiar voice and jerked his attention from the water to the black-and-white face of his brother, Nariko.

"Hey Nariko!" He said, brightening immediately with a smile. He had let himself go, he saw loosening up as a bad thing- mental weakness. He pushed it aside for now, he never really had much to fear from his family anyway. He pulled his paw out of the water and smiled a big grin. It wasn't often he saw his brother, they were usually out and about doing various things, though Nariko's stories were always more interesting than Seki's. "What's up?"

Glad to see his brother was back, Nariko flicked his tail as he came to his brother's side. With a smile, he replied, "Not much has been happening lately. Other than spending some thime with Sarakiva and her family or time wandering the Pridelands, I can't say anything exciting has happened." While that might seem average to him, to anyone else that could seem extraordinary. Especially spending so much time away from his family and off with the princess, but he was not one that let it go to his head. He tilted his head slightly, "How have things been going with you?"

Sekizen chuckled. His brother had a girlfriend! Whether that was the way Nariko saw it or not, that's how he saw it. As odd as it was, Seki hadn't ever met a member of the royal family. He'd been to Pride rock and his brother hung out with them all the time, but Sekizen never once had spoken to one.

"Things have been normal," he said, not betraying one ounce of the fact that the statement was a blatent lie. For some reason, he didn't feel comfortable sharing with anyone that he was falling in love with the green and white lioness he'd brought into the Pridelands. He really had no reason to hide it, there was nothing wrong with falling in love... Except to Seki, for some reason or another. Whether or not his brother would notice that though his face was normal, his actions were not, was a mystery. Sekizen thought he was being discrete enough and justified enough to be gone all day, when normally he'd spend at least a day or two out of the week around their den.

Green eyes looked at his brother, Nariko was sure that Sekizen would have teased him a little more about Sarakiva. Since other members of his family had when they had first found out about the arranged marriage. While back then, he didn't understand the purpose for it, all that had changed over time and he was grateful to his mother.

An ear flicked at Sekizen's answer. Normal, what was normal? Nariko's life was definitely not normal that's for sure...once Sarakiva and her brother came of age, responsibility would be placed upon their shoulders and that scared him. With his brother, everyone had their secrets that they shared and thus, he wouldn't be the one to prod too much. He let out a soft sigh, "Things have changed so much, I would have never had imagined that it'd turn out this way. Sometimes, I catch myself thinking that I might fail Sarakiva in helping her rule and I'd never forgive myself if that happened." He shook his head, those thoughts were kind of depressing and he didn't want to think that. On another note, "Did you know that we're uncles? Shin had cubs not too long ago."

"Things have changed..." Sekizen said thoughtfully before his brother continued. "I'm sure you'll be a great king-type thing," Seki said, unsure of exactly what Nariko's position was officially called. He wouldn't be king, because Akida would be in that position... So Sekizen was unsure of what to call it. "You've always got us to bother if you need help with a decision, you know. I'm open for pondering some of your worries for you," He said with a smile and a little nudge. Everyone who knew Sekizen would agree that he rather enjoyed pondering... anything, really. "I'm sure you'll make wise decisions."

"Yeah, I heard that!" Sekizen responded in regards to his uncle-dom. "Go figure, huh? I haven't met the little guys yet, but I've heard through the grapevine," He said with a nod.

Grinning at his brother, Nariko was glad to get the support he could get from them. He replied, "I'm glad that you think so, it's just a worry that I catch myself thinking about every now and then. I guess it's because the Pridelands is so large, but then I have to remember I'll be sharing that responsibility with Sarakiva, her brother and his mate." He felt relived, at the very least. It wasn't very often that he told another of his worry, especially one this large. But it felt good to get that off his chest and out in the open. "I'll definitely throw some stuff at you when I need another opinion!"

At his brother's comment, he couldn't help but chuckle. "I've only met one of the two cubs when I ran into Shin not too long ago. I'd definitely say he's gotten his paws full with that one. He definitely has a fiery attitude, though I don't know where he got that from..." He couldn't figure out where his nephew got his personality from, since he never met his father nor questioned about him, that idea just never came to him.

"Perhaps I should go lend Shin a paw sometime soon, then. I don't have much else to do on a daily basis, it'd be a change," Sekizen said, not truly knowing what he'd be getting into. It was just a cub! How bad could he be? Seki hadn't made the connection to his father for the attitude either, so he figured the cub must be a little crazy in the head. Of course, he wouldn't ever vocalize it, mostly because he really didn't think that was it. (But also because it's just plain mean.)

"What do they look like? I've just heard that they're alive and are two boys, not what they look like." Sekizen asked, tilting his head a bit.

With a nod of his head, Nariko was definitely certain that his brother would need their help. Especially with his two little cubs, they were definitely little balls of energy, that was for sure. "Well, from the one that I saw. He was mainly white with spots on his paws and face that were purple. And the other was black with blue spots and some kind of wing design on his back. I'm assuming that the odd colors are from the mother, since I don't recognize the colors to be from our side of the family."

His eyes looked forward, wondering. "I wonder what it would be like to have a family. I kind of missed having two parents when we were growing up. I get kind of envious when I'm with Sarakiva and her family. Theirs seems so ideal, and ours seems so different." He let out a small sigh, but he couldn't help to tease his brother, "You'll probably have cubs before me." He talked with his brother for some time before they had parted ways, but not before he told his brother he'd like to see him again!
