(( This is an RP between Vytali and Nyanomic, with a minor timeskip period as Zoo is bad with timing rps XD))

Ashamed wasn't exactly an emotion that the young stallion felt as he walked that familiar path home on that dusk-ridden morning. He wasn't sure if it was the vague tendrils of sunrise warming his face, or the blood itself rushing towards it that made him feel so flustered every step he took.

This was it, the journey back home, to try and say something, to make amends. If anyone was home that was.

Up the familiar forest clearing where he had played with his siblings as foals, and then down the stream, still the same clear silver as always. A teepee was in his line of vision now, sticking out like a sore claw. His wings drooped noticeably, hooves digging deeply into the forest soil.

And right there, steps before the familiar shelter he had called home for so many moons, he stopped. No, he couldn't do this. He couldn't go home because it was -he- who had left in a storm of rage and misfit temper. And most of all he had no explanation for what he did.

With that, he turned around, readying himself to leave, to flee from this place again, and once again run away from his troubles.

Not far from the teepee, Vytali wove his way through the familiar landscape, no more than a stone's throw from where his brother stood indecisive. He spotted his brother before the other saw him, and it stopped him dead in his tracks. Outwardly, his expression didn't change, however, a frisson of joy at seeing his brother again stirred in him.

For all their frequent disagreements (most of which involved his deadpan mocking of his brother's frequent, overly emotional outbursts), he'd missed the other in the time he'd been away--in some ways, Nyan was his emotional outlet, of sorts. When Nyan turned, looking as if he were going to flee again, Vyt snorted, suddenly annoyed.

"Not even gonna take the time to say hello before you run away again?" His faintly mocking expression, paired with the biting words, covered up his own emotional state quite effectively. Although he'd never admit it, he'd been somewhat hurt by what he saw as his brother's defection--family didn't run out on one another, over something as minor as a disagreement, after all.

He heard a rustle behind him, and froze. Maybe it was just a squirrel or something, maybe if he stood very very still, it would go aw-

And then the jarring sound of a painfully familiar voice. It felt insulting, familiarly so, and he found himself replying in the same tone, memory trained to the verbal dances they had always had.

"I'm not running away, I-" he paused, eyebrows furrowing, and for a second, it seemed those large rimmed glasses framed precariously on his snout would tip over any second. "-am simply debating my options!" He finished rather defiantly despite his situation, giving the same huff he had always given back then.

Despite all things, a part of him was so relieved to see his brother. Despite the other's ninety-percent vanity and ten-percent conceitedness, he was sure somewhere in his sibling's tiny little heart there was some respect for his (somewhat older) brother.

Vytali smirked. "At the very best, it looked as though you were debating the best route to get away before anyone else showed up and caught you hanging around," he observed. With an arrogant toss of his head (which sent his black and gold braid whipping about before it settled in a haphazard pile around his fore-hooves), Vyt stamped one of his hooves, before making his way over to stand next to Nyan.

Reaching out, he tugged firmly on a strand of Nyan's forelock. "So, had enough of the happily ever after already?" He slipped back into his usual teasing, enjoying keeping poor Nyan off-balance. "Or did you bring her back with you?" He made a show of looking around, as if he really wasn't sure.

Truth be told, he had a pretty strong suspicion that his brother had realized that the lifestyle he'd fought so hard for wasn't necessarily all it'd cracked up to be. He couldn't be sure, of course...but it was certainly fitting in with Nyan's headstrong, often impulsive personality--he had a tendency of rushing into things, stubbornly refusing to listen to any sort of 'reason' (since Vyt was usually a contributor of this 'reason', it probably wasn't all that surprising, with how it was likely to be conveyed).

"I told you I- ack let go!" He tugged a bit too vigorously at his younger brother's play-teasing, loosening the lock from the other's jaws only to nearly fall over, knees wobbling precariously. Nyanomic glared angrily at the other, wondering (once again) why he had come back only to meet with that.

The 'that' was making fun of his quests. The 'older' sibling sniffed, lifting his muzzle and attempting to act more haughtily than he felt. "I had a -great- time without you guys and mom and dad. In fact I had so much fun, I felt bad that you guys would miss me, so I came back to bestow upon you my presence."

As if he would tell his brother the truth. "Besides she.....didn't want to come back. She's too good for you guys anyway."

Sometimes it was easier to tell a straight lie than to tell a crooked truth, despite how tight his chest felt or the strange chillness residing in his abdomen.

Vytali laughed aloud, shaking his head. "Mind your balance, brother." His expression was carefully deadpan, but did absolutely nothing to disguise his amusement.

Strangely, he didn't even bother to call Nyan out on the patently false statement. "I'm sorry that it didn't work out." It felt odd, not poking fun at the obviously sore spot--when had he gotten so sappy? Mentally grimacing, Vytali shook his head once again.

"Not that I can blame her or anything..." It was a quick cover-up, as he sought to pretend the moment of expressed concern had never happened.

Too many things were on the tip of his tongue ready to spill out. The minute his brother had said those magic words, that simple 'sorry', all of them threatened so spill out. He wanted to do as he had always done as a foal, whinny and last out in fury until he got his attention, but the part of him that matured, the part of him that learned, told him otherwise.

It was time to let go.

Nyanomic gave a half-shrug, tip of his tail coiling in order to relieve his personal vexation. "Its... its nothing." His body twinged. Breathe. Relax.

"Its nothing at all." He forced a smile and oddly, felt better. "Besides, I have yet to see you woo a mare" He teased. "I bet mom and dad try to hook you up with ugly mares all the time."

He looked at his brother over his 'sunglasses' before quickly looking down. Things like his actions couldn't fix itself in a day, but he couldn't but help but try.

Vytali snickered, shaking his head. "The thought of getting saddled with a foal that might grow up like you, brother, is enough to cool even the most heated of ardor." he teased, winking.

"And besides, you've been away for awhile--for all you know, I've already got a pretty little mare or two stashed nearby, awaiting my leisure~" Again, his typical smirk played with the corners of his mouth, something inside him easing--he and Nyan might not be close in the way of some siblings, in that they didn't really 'confide' in one another...but that hadn't lessened the loss he'd felt in his older sibling's absence.

Not that Nyan would -ever- be permitted to know that, of course.

What did his brother mean by that?

Nyanomic bristled, again alternating between resigned and indignant. "I'm actually very responsible you know," he proclaimed haughtily," If I recall correctly YOU were always the one getting into trouble. As long as none ended up taking after you, there is nothing wrong with being a proud parent that I should be."

Pause, and suddenly, a mischievous grin. "Wow, Vyt, you're an uncle now. If you're not careful, you'll soon be unable to be useful to mares, if you catch my drift."

It was a mean thing to say, and Nyan felt kind of bad. Key words: kind of. That b*****d brother, always thinking he was better, Vyt totally deserved every attack he got.

Vytali snorted. He couldn't help it--there were a lot of things he might have thought to describe his brother as...but responsible was not one of them. Raising an eyebrow, he grinned, exuding innocence. "Me? Cause trouble? Perhaps parenthood has scrambled what little brains you possess, darling brother of mine..."

At the next, sly insult, however, Vyt narrowed his eyes slightly, then tossed his head, lifting it high, so that he could look down on Nyan imperiously. "There is nothing wrong with being selective--I'd be more concerned with overuse thinning the ranks, so to speak." This delivered with a slight, malicious curl at the side of his mouth. Big brother had learned more than the birds and the bees while running away from his family, it would seem...and Vyt was not pleased with this particular development. Where was his crybaby older brother, who ran sobbing to mother at the slightest provocation?!

"Wha-" What on earth did Vytali mean by 'overuse'? Wait did he mean - oh. Nyanomic resisted blushing, barely. "I... er.. its not my fault I'm so productive!" he finally defended with a rather violent outburst.

Of course, that sounded not exactly as he had pictured in his mind. "Err, no. GAH, nevermind." Obviously he was feeling rather miffed himself at the one-thousand-and-one reasons why ladies and him never had quite the serious relationship, but now was not the time to muse. He was the older, and firstborn, and therefore, naturally, special.

Honestly, Nyan wasn't sure if his brother was still angry at him and just playacting or upset for some reasons unknown. To be honest he had always confided first and foremost in his brother, even if half the time it turned out to be a goading joke. He wondered if this anger was directed to the fact that Vytali had no serious relationship of his own.

"You know Vyt, we should hang out more." He suddenly decided to take immediate action, before it was too late for his brother. "Lets go out on a stroll for mares together one day, there's bound to be one meant for your highness." He gave a mock bow, goading the other.

Chuckling, Vyt could hardly contain himself when his elder brother's discomfort became obvious. That was the brother he'd grown up with.

The comment that followed, however, left him gaping, downright stupefied. Since when did Nyan ever seek his company out?! However, when his sibling finished, he snorted, expression flattening out into its usual sardonically amused mask.

"That sounds lovely, brother, except..aren't you concerned about the slights that will be cast upon your manhood when all of the mares very clearly prefer me?" With that, he flicked his mane, turning the full force of his (considerable!) charm upon Nyan, practically glittering.
