Where in the Bible does it specifically mention the rapture? And what exactly is it?

Oh, so that's what it is. Truth be told, I've never heard of it until now.

I''m still not quite convinced of how much scriptual basis this rapture thing has. I've read the book of revelations at least twice and this rapture thing seems....a little different then what is portrayed in the Bible.

Keep in mind that Revelations is not the only book containing prophecy of the end times. End time prophecies are scattered around the Bible, I know that there are some in the Book of Daniel.

technically the Rapture refers to the part in Revelations when Jesus calls all the believer to him. Who knows what people interpret it as. It used to scare me when I was little, but now I can't wait!

thestarthatshines technically the Rapture refers to the part in Revelations when Jesus calls all the believer to him. ! Exactly. This is the part that sort of speaks of the concept of the rapture. Other prophetic books speak of this period of time as well. There is a lot of debate about when in the end times the rapture will occur. Some believe it will happen before the beginning of the last 7 years (the tribulation), some believe it will happen right in the middle of it, and some believe it will happen in the end. Still other Christians believe it is more figurative than literal. There have been many generations of Christians who believed they were living in the end times, in fact, probably every generation since the message has! Every day that goes by obviously brings us closer to that day. Another cool sign that it is getting closer is that Israel has once again become a nation, which was something very specifically that had to come to pass before the end comes. That has only happened within the past 60 years or so! The biggest thing to remember is that Jesus says we need to be prepared...we need to be ready at all times. Really it is a message of hope and the fulfillment of a promise made by Jesus to return for us! It is an encouragement for us all to hang in there and keep going knowing that all things will be put in perfect order at a time only God himself knows. It encourages me to know that no matter how bad things seem in our world, as sick and perverted and discusting as it has become, none of it escapes God's watchful eye. How often we can forget that when we see everything that's going on around us! Some other interesting similarities on the concept of the rapture come out of genesis, first in the story of Noah's Ark. Though the whole world had gone bad, one man remained who loved God and so God waited to pour out his wrath on the earth until this one man and his family was safe and protected. And then a second example would be the story of Lot and his family. God again waits to destroy the Soddom and Gomorrah until Lot and his family are safe and clear of the area.

Exactly - this confuesed me for a while, but in the Gospels Jesus mentioned that the signs would appear to his generation, and they've been occuring ever since! You know, the wars and rumors of wars stuff. Also, before jesus returns every people group must be reached and have one disciple. Th Israel thing is really cool though, I'd forgotten about that!

Rapture isn't exactly scriptural. Sure, there are ways to bend certain verses to support the idea, but I don't think it will come like everyone expects.
God NEVER comes like everyone expects, and yet he comes exactly how He promises to.
I believe Revelation is happening... and I believe that every generation of Christians that has believed they are living in the end of days is right. But I definately don't think that the rapture is quite what is described in the Left Behind series (although I do enjoy the books!).
My point in saying this is just this - remember there are many different interpretations to Revelations, and that we, as humans, can never understand the mind of God perfectly.

Rapture---
Revelation, I believe... yes Revelation..
(in a nutshell) Jesus comes back down to earth and takes the Christians with him.... God gives non christians a 2nd chance, and basically tears the world a part, moves mountains and tries to convince people that there really is 1 God. Also, a group of christians (cant remember the exact phrasing) will stay on earth to testify
