Unlike every other day, Katsuo was not wearing his black headphones. No, today, he had on a pair of headphones that could very possibly have been used by thousands of people before him, old and young. He had no plans of actually buying one of the CDs -most of the popular ones he could get for free anyway- but it was still fun to come to one of the large CD stores. Unlike his father, he wouldn't be recognized the moment he walked into such a store. The anonymity was one of the few things he would miss when he grew up.

He had wanted to pass by to see how a friend's CD had turned out, and had ended up staying there for a few hours now. Picking up CDs had turned into a temporary hobby. He had nothing better to do that afternoon, anyway. Why not spend it doing what he loved?

However, he was finding that he was having difficulties picking CDs. His eyes weren't adjusting properly or something, preventing him from reading the signs that were a certain distance away from him. The medium-sized signs that told the genres of each section were almost illegible -blurred and hard to read. He rubbed his eyes with both hands. Maybe it was just that he hadn't gotten enough sleep the night before... Either way, he'd have to get his eyes checked out to make sure that nothing was truly wrong with them.

With a soft sigh Miho idly flipped through the case of CDs in front of her while mostly concentrating on the music pouring through the headphones that were attached to the music shelves. The hand that wasn't flipping through CDs tapped out the beat of the music that she was listening to on the side of the large shelf. Unlike most people would have assumed Miho did actually like some of the more catchy and popular music. It was set a good mood for some of her drawings.

Mostly the type of music she listened to depended on her mood. Days that she was out of the house her time that wasn't spent in a book store or art shop she spent in some music store, finding music that she found inspiring. Next to her book shelf at home was a large shelf of CDs that she bought after finding a song that appealed to her on them. However most of the time the only song that she liked on the whole CD was that one song and so any music that she listened to was mostly burned CDs with a collection of her favorite songs on it.

She sighed softly as the music ended and removed the earphones. Adjusting the messenger bag that carried the books and sketch pad that she always had with her, she moved down another aisle in between selves in search of another song that looked interesting to listen to. Not really paying attention to her surroundings she didn't notice the boy standing stock still in the middle of the aisle until her shoulder bumped him.

"Oh... sorry." She blinked, the boy looked a bit familiar, where had she seen him before?

Katsuo hadn't realized that he had migrated to the center of the isle that he was standing in. The music on the CD had distracted him, as it usually did, causing him to ignore the entire area surrounding him. His eyes were closed for a while before Miho accidentally bumped into him. He was concentrating solely on the music that only he could hear. The student thought quietly to himself that he would have to buy this one. Luckily, he'd brought a fair amount of money with him.

Over the years, the boy had managed to develop a talent to differentiate each of the individual parts that the instruments in a song played, and decide to hear them together or apart on a whim. It was in this way that he could pick up whenever someone in the recording room had hit a sour note, even if it was one of the softer instruments. He had yet to compeltely perfect it, but he was quite good at it already.

He blinked after being bumped into. His eyes opened, and he finally noticed that he was no longer standing next to the rows of CDs, but directly between one endless row and another row opposite it. "Oh, sorry. I didn't mean to get in your way." Again, he blinked in realization. "Do I... know you from somewhere?"

Having been distracted by trying to remember where she had seen the boy before Miho hadn't realized that in bumping into the boy she had dropped the CD that she was carrying. Realizing now that it wasn't in her hand anymore she quickly stooped to retrieve it from the floor. "I do apologize, I didn't see you." Polite, she reminded herself firmly. Be polite until you know something about the person. She'd learned her lesson about that earlier in the year with Roka.

"I wasn't paying attention to where I was going." She bowed in polite apology. Now... where had she seen the boy before? School? Quite possibly, but she was almost sure she'd seen his face somewhere else. Some article about his family perhaps? Drat it, she really couldn't remember though.

Nothing would be found out by her simply standing there and pondering it. Pulling out of her thoughts she addressed the boy again. "Probably. You look familiar to me as well." Her head tilted a bit to one side. "Do you attend Ouran perhaps?"

Katsuo looked down to see that she had dropped her CD on the ground. Though he started to bend down to pick it up, she beat him there and he merely stood back up again. "You have my sincerest apologies, as well. I've been told more than once that I need to pay more attention to what's going on around me, instead of completely focusing on a single thing." He said earnestly. This had to be the umpteenth time that someone had bumped into him because he'd been lost in thought.

He returned her bow in the same kind of apologetic way. "I actually do attend Ouran. I transfered in about halfway through the year. My name is Arata Katsuo." Had he seen her passing in the halls? Drat, he couldn't remember for the life of him. Maybe they were in the same gym class or something. No doubt that he had seen her around the campus more than once, but had not been paying enough attention to recall both her face and name.

Miho couldn't help chuckling slightly. "I'll take that to mean that this isn't that first time that someone's nearly ran you over then?" She shifted the shoulder bag that she almost always wore from one shoulder to the other. She often had similar problems with people almost running over her, though it was usually because she was tucked in some corner reading with earphones in her ears and couldn't hear them approach.

"Hmm." Her head tilted in thought. "It's possible I've seen you there. Though I wouldn't necessarily remember it. I'm horrible at remembering people." Well that was true. She almost never bothered to remember people's names, but she did almost always remember their faces. "I'm Tamura Miho. It's nice to meet you Arata-kun."

Wait... Music store... Music... something flickered in her memory. "By any chance is your family in the music business?"

Katsuo shrugged as a small, awkward smile formed on his lips. "I'm just glad that this time, it wasn't a car that nearly ran me over. Those 'Do Not Walk' signs might be a little to unnoticeable to someone not paying attention." Granted, that had only happened once, but it had indeed been a close call. He sighed, remembering the situation. His heart had completely halted when the driver of the vehicle blared his horn.

"It's fine if you don't remember me. No one seems to have formally introduced us before. What class are you in?" That could be where he knew her. If they were in the same class, then he would have definitely seen or passed her occasionally as they went through the halls. "The pleasure's all mine, Miho-san." Good impression. Make a good impression. A voice that sounded like his conscience refused to stop reminding him of that. Pulling himself away from it, he nodded. "My parents head a music production company. We've signed a lot of bands and artists over the years."

Miho blinked at the boy in front of her. "...I think that's why people usually try to pay attention when they're around cars..." As she had begun to loosen up around people her sarcastic streak had remained only in the form of a sarcastic sense of humor. "The whole walking out in front large objects moving at high speeds thing? Usually not a good idea." A smile tilted one side of her mouth "Though... those signs could be a bit larger... there have been times when I've almost missed them as well."

Something still niggled at the back of her mind but she couldn't place it yet. "It's probably true that they haven't... though... if you were introduced to me at the begining of the year the chance that I'd remember you are fairly slim." In fact from anyone she's met all year she only remember a couple of names and the majority of those names were people who she felt posed some sort of threat towards her. "Oh. Um... Class 1B"

...Music production company... that was definitely familiar. Perhaps it was one of the families that her mother had attempted to drill all of the members of into her head. "Oh! Arata-san... got it." She smiled at him sheepishly. "Sorry, I hate thinking I should know something and not knowing it." She didn't particularly care how famous his family was or not.

Katsuo smiled at the sarcasm that fell over Miho's comments. "I wish someone had told me that a bit earlier. It would have saved me a lot of trouble." He retorted, still smilling. "Who cares about one or two near-death experiences, anyway?" He jested lightly, making a mental note never to mention the car incidents to anyone again if he could avoid it.

"I came in after the first semester. That gave us even less time to get properly acquainted." It had been such a busy few months since back then... Was he almost already a 2nd year, or was it just his imagination? "Same as mine. We probably have one or two classes together."

"Doesn't matter to me either way. In fact, I'm oddly happy that you didn't remember my family." Oh, man. That would probably need some explaining -the worst part is, he himself wasn't totally positive of why he felt the way he did. He idlely wished someone would explain it to him.

A soft chuckle escaped Miho. "Oh really?" Miho frowned slightly at his comment about near death experiences. "I'd think most people" Her head tilted slightly. "I know at least that they tend bother me. I'd rather keep my life, thanks"

"Oh" Miho blinked in surprise. "I guess that would explain the fact that we've never really met." Her hand rose absently to tuck her hair behind her ear. She still wasn't really used to this hair style. It had made her mother happy, but it was incredibly annoying to take care of. "It's highly likely that we do."

She couldn't help but grin at his baffled expression. Apparently he hadn't meant to say that. "Makes sense. After all if you're proud of your family it makes sense that you'd be glad that someone remembered them."

Katsuo laughed lightly. "Apparently, I'm not most people." He was definitely proud of that, even if it did mean that he was twice as likely to get run over because of his own neglegence. Maybe his parents were right... He needed a body guard to protect him from himself.

"Yeah, I transferred from my old school and into Ouran." And he'd been enjoying the change of scenery ever since. "From what I remember, don't most of us in 1B have the same class schedule?" If not that, then at least a similar one.

"I don't think it's because I'm not proud of my family. I think it's because they're not exactly proud of me." Though his voice was serious, his face regained its smile, as if it didn't matter. "Hmm. I don't know about you, but I'm hungry. Would you mind continuing our conversation over an ice cream or something? My treat."
PostPosted: Fri Feb 08, 2008 6:42 pm

"Well" Miho tilted her head to the side grinning slightly "Not being most people isn't really a bad thing." She definitely wasn't most people herself, it was something that she never wanted to be. "Though if you're always putting yourself in danger maybe you should try and stay away from streets unless you have protection."

"I transfered in myself, only if was at the begining of the year and not part way through." She chuckled "Yeah, I think so." She rubbed at her head a bit ruefully "Though, again, I don't really remember most people from our class."

Realizing that she'd probably misheard him she rephrased"Well it probably works the other way too. If you're not you'd be glad that someone didn't remember them." She blinked "Ice cream? Sure, I guess?"

"It hasn't gotten me killed yet, so until then, I think I'm okay with it." Katsuo was definitely being a bit too thickheaded. He should ahve been more concerned by the fact that he had had a few close calls. "But if you say so, I'll think about taking a few good looks before crossing an intersection."

He nodded, remembering that a lot of new students had come in at the beginning of the year. In fact, he couldn't even remember who had been going to ouran for years and who hadn't. There was that one girl who came in around the same time... But he still hadn't gotten to know her very well. "I've met a few kids in our grade. It'll still be a while before I get to know everyone, though."

"Yes." He celebrated shortly at the small victory. He'd been wandering around town all day, and he definitely wanted to eat something before he got home.

"It hasn't killed you 'yet'? I haven't been struck by lightning yet either but that doesn't mean I go around standing under trees during lightning storms." She shook her head "No reason to go about just asking for trouble. Taking a good look before crossing would most definitely be in your best interests.

"That's for sure. There's far to many people. I doubt I'll ever get around to knowing them all. Especially with new students coming in every year."Her head tilted in thought for a minute. "It's weird but actually I've met more people not in our class then I have those in our class."

She gave him an odd look but shrugged. "Would you rather walk or take one of our cars? I don't know how far it is so I don't know if it's a decent distance to walk"

"But it's not really as though I'm looking to get run over by a car. It just happens sometimes." He offered, smiling with a slight tilt of his head. "It would be in my best interest..." He echoed. "So I guess I'll watch out, just to make sure to keep myself alive for just a little bit longer."

"That's no way to act. Our school's not that big, if you're only trying to meet those in your class. Everyone in the grade, however... That'd be pretty hard. I guess that english phrase 'quality of quantity' would be appropriate, really. Better to have a few close friends then a bunch you barely know." At her comment about meeting more people from out of their class than from in it, he began to wonder. He knew Roka and Mitsuko, both 1A... But still, "I know a lot more people in 1B than the other classes." Chihaya, Satu, Akira, Audric, and Miho, of course.

"Walking would be better. It's not that far, and after all, it's a nice day outside. Might as well enjoy it." He was always one to stay in the warm sunlight if the weather permitted.
