Back Story

OCEANIC MELODY


Far below the ocean beyond the reaches of man lies a marvelous treasure trove of life. Here is the kingdom of Atlantis home to the people of the sea, also known as merfolk.
Here rules Poseidon with his trident. In the aquatic castle dwell many members of the royal family. Among these dwellers are his daughters fairest mermaids of them all. Each
Mermaid has been raised with the notion that they will each rule a part of the ocean under Poseidon’s command. They have been raised with vast knowledge both from the world below and the world above, the world of man. Merfolk are beauteous people indeed but Poseidon’s daughters are even more beauteous due to the gifts they possess. Each daughter can be a color of the rainbow with flowing hair, glittering fins, and melodic voice. Each mermaid has what seems to be a tattoo of their muse, the object that inspires and makes them especially unique. On their necks they carry a shell tied to a ribbon. In this shell they hold their power. Without it they would not be able to walk between the world of merfolk and man nor would they be able to sing their melody to all. Mermaids
Take pride in their vocal talent and the princesses are known far and wide for the harmony they issue when they sing. It has been told that long ago a mermaid existed who calmed the raging seas with her voice and brought calm and peace to all.

The mermaid princesses are all of age and must now embark on a coming of age quest.
Each mermaid when coming of age is allowed to visit the world of man and dwell among them. After some time they will be called back to the sea and they can make the choice of whether they wish to live in the sea or in the world of man. If they choose to leave the sea and live with man they are not to reveal the sea world to anyone. If they do they will never be allowed to return to it again and they may fade in time. There is one exception though…if a mermaid fell in love with a human and the human loves her in turn, then and only then can she reveal herself. Yet, if he does not love her in turn she will die and all knowledge of her and her secret will disappear from the humans mind. The human will be left with one thing though and that is the tattoo of the muse that made that mermaid unique. It would be his burden to bear without knowledge of what truly happened. This is one warning that has been issued to all the princesses so that they are not so trusting with the secret they possess. After all, they are not the only ones who would be have problems the kingdom might suffer as well if it were discovered.

The day has finally come and you have been prepared as much as possible. Now you must leave the sea for the surface. There you will begin a new life as a high school student and dwell with the humans learning what ever you can. A representative of the merfolk has been sent to the school to make sure everything is in order in regards to your stay.

Will you love the world of man?

Will you return to the sea?

Will you find true love?
Will you perish?

Only you determine your fate.

It is the first day of school and you listen to the dean give his speech.

Welcome to Academie Serene

We are pleased to welcome you to this institution and look forward to meeting you’re academic as well as social needs. We are sure that your time here will be one of great learning and one that will make a great impact on you.

After the speech you are directed to your dorms where you will set up and afterwards get acquainted with your peers, teachers, and school. Classes begin the next day.

For those of you who choose to be merfolk remember the underlying story but do not forget that you must live as if you were human until you choose your path

Bio: Namine has dreamed of the day when she would visit the surface. This coming of age ritual is something that she has waited for. She is curious about the world of man and their interactions and is excited about making human friends. Star enjoys swimming off, and has proved she is a handful. She always has a book open, if she's not out doing something in terms of water or athletic stuff.
Star is also very intelligent, and loves to try and find out what would happen if you mixxed two chemicals together. She is fascinated with sciences, but wouldn't think of leaving the Merworld for it.

Personality: Leon is a quiet person who almost never speaks out loud. He appears to be cold, but he does care for others feelings. He gets nervous in front of large group of people, which causes him to walk off for no reason. When he's annoyed he forgets about being quiet and yells his head off. Leon is also hemophobic and passes out at the slightest drop of blood. Through it all he is a loyal friend and is trustworthy.
Bio: Leon is an only child and lost his mother at the age once he graduates.of 8. Being with his father so long he's not used to being around women. He left home to get a better education, and hopefully get a job.

Personality: Opal is very straightforward, and not afraid to speak her mind. She comes off as abrasive or rough because she states her opinion firmly and stands by it. She loved to have as much of the facts on something as she can get, and is always up for a debate.
She hates it when people pick on others and will be very vehement and vocal about it, hoping to make them realize they're making themselves look bad. If it comes down to it, she'll likely end up picking a minor fight to get others to back off.
There's a stubborn streak in Opal down to her core, but she's also got the heart of a hopeless romantic. Though it'd be like pulling teeth to get her to admit it.

Bio: Though she hates to keep secrets, she knew that if she came to the Human world she'd have to, and has done an admirable job since her rise from the water. She doesn't know what she wants, but secretly she dreams of meeting the right person and being able to tell them her big secret.

Bio: let's just say she was born into a family of 3 sons, and they mostly stand up for her since she really didn't like violence that much. The 4 siblings were always nice to each other, but they had to be parted since her brothers were much older than her. She's been alone most of the time, but she's trying her best to make friends.

Personality:Mischievous and with a literal sense of humor, Kennedy has done his fair share of pranks and suffered their consequences...not that a little thing like permanent detention would stop him from seeing the endless possibilities in prankfesting the school. Kennedy's salvation among the teachers stems from the single fact of his intelligence and constantly high grades- which they consider astounding, what with the amount of time he spends not being in the classroom- and being extra charming to some doesn't hurt currying their favor.
Bio: Abandoned by his mother hours after his birth, Kennedy spent his early years in an orphanage, where this rambunctious child soon became scapegoat for many an offense-most of which he was actually innocent- and only by learning to laugh at his situations did he manage to survive childhood. Luckily he was adopted by the generous patrons of the institution and has now become the sole heir of the St Michael fortune

Personality: Mature for his age, Marat soon found that he wasn't interested in the same activities as his fellow students and thus spent most of his time writing music. Although he is caring and sensative by nature, Marat often found that it is easier to conceal his true emotions then share them with others.
Bio: Music was always the most important thing in Marat's life. At the age of seven, he attempted to create his first piece of music on the piano his older sister received for Christmas and proudly presented it to the rest of the family. However, Marat's efforts weren't appreaciated as his father tore up the manuscript, sayign that music is not a masculine activity. From then on Marat studied secretly until he finally moved out of his parent's house. The only members of the family Marat keeps in touch with is his sister.

Appearance: Tomoko, she looked pretty much the same way as a mermaid, except she had an indigo tail... >.<

Personality: Tomoko always plans several steps ahead, however, she has no difficulty in improvising. Quick to laugh and seemingly easy-going, she's the type of teacher who is well liked by most of her students while teaching the toughest class in school. She somehow manages to seem delicate and gentle even while 'guiding' her students into doing more work than they've ever done in their life. She loves to hoard jewelry, and often shows it off on her person.

Bio: Tomoko, the oldest mermaid sister, had almost always gotten her way with things, usually by manipulation. Eager to see what human life was like, and if they were easier to manipulate, she was very excited when she was finally allowed into the human world. She is indifferent as to whether or not she falls in love, but she is sure that if she did she could convince that person to love her in return...

Appearance: Iona normally wears her dark brown hair in a bun, and has dark green eyes. Her hair is a little over shoulder length when not up. She's a tall woman, and an average build. She normally wears long pleated (sp?) skirts and long-sleeved blouses.
Personality: Iona is normally very kind, but is also very strict when it comes to her classes. She likes to help her students, and give them advice however she can. She hates reading, so when she's forced to she normally falls asleep. She also has a habit of humming when she's buisy.
Bio: Iona has a little girl who is four years old, and named Karen. She has never been married, and the child's father is in prison (Iona never actually knew him if that gives you a hint). She frequently lets the girls on campus take care of her when she's buisy. She is working on getting a degree in counciling while working at the school as well as doing her classes.

Personality: Quiet and mysterious, dark and somewhat twisted. Solitary but nice to those she knows.
Bio: Margoritte was born in the lush French countryside. She was raised on education and never strayed from it as her parents were both college professors. She's always took interest to the strange and unusual, aside from her studies. At the tender age of six 'Margo' as her loved ones called her saw her first mythical creature; a mermaid. She stood in awe when she first saw the gallant creatures amazed by their grace and beauty. Margo often pretended to be a mystical creature when she played but was made fun of often when she did this, she was somewhat traumatized a bit feeling she would never be accepted again. As she grew older Magoritte became lost loosing her connection with the world and herself. When she heard of the school Margo realized what her life was for; spreading the magic of education to the creatures she had always admired. Starting as a teacher for her first year Margo cannot be more excited.
