He is the creator of the Mario, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, Star Fox, Nintendogs, and Pikmin.

Oh, and the game pikmin was named after his dog apparantly (still not sure on that one....)

Who the hell names your dog "Pikmin"?
He also had a lot to do with Super Smash Bros., Doshin the Giant and tons of other games.

Shigeru Miyamoto got inspiration for the Zelda series from both his granparent's maze like attic, and a cave he found out in a field when he was a kid.
After finding the cave, he later went back armed with nothing but a lantern. (sound familiar?)
