It was a gentle autumn day, and Helaku was taking an equally gentle walk as his ribs continued to heal. They felt much better, but the raccoon-marked stallion was determined to heed the azure unicorn's warning and avoid becoming a burden to those he knew. It was hard enough knowing that his running was ended only temporarily...if it were permanent, things would be much more dull. So he held himself to a walk, watching Mai run ahead after leaves.

Deep golden eyes gazed upwards are a green stallion finally began to stand out in the background. The seasons were quickly changing and his brilliant green coat no longer blended in well with the background for all was becoming the color of Fall. The only thing that matched the scenery were his golden hooves that made the leaves crunch as he stepped upon them.
A different crunching noise brought about the stallion's attention as something that blended into the leaves moved towards him at a bit of a run. Squinting his eyes just a bit, Verloren spotted a wolf colored like dark earth but with stripes somewhat similar to his own neck stripes. His ears flicked about as something or someone else seemed to be approaching from behind the wolf. Quietly, the stallion stood firmly where he was and watched.

The small golden shewolf's ears pricked as she noticed the stranger, and she slipped behind Helaku as quietly as a ghost, giving him a light n** on the heels in the process. Helaku started, looking up to see the brilliant green stallion in front of him. "Oh, hello there," he greeted. "Sorry about that, I was a bit lost in thought. I hope I wasn't being rude."

Verloren looked at the other stallion with quiet eyes and shook his head lightly in return. "No, don't think of it! I;m Verloren by the way. Pleasure to meet you." The green stallion bowed his head lightly to the other. "And it's a pleasure to meet your companion as well," Verloren continued on acknowledging the wolf. "Its not often that a soquili is seen together with a wolf."

"Oh, good. I've been out of sorts lately, so I'd like to try and avoid...being such an a**." Helaku laughed sheepishly, genuine shame coloring his tone. He knew he hadn't treated those he'd come across right, but it was hard to remember manners through the pain that most mares still caused at the sight of them. Things were getting a little better since the fight with the black stallion however...maybe his heart was healing along with his ribs. "I'm Helaku, and the shy one here is Mai. She was scared to death, hiding under a bush, when I found her, and there were many other Soquili attempting to coax her out from under it. I'm glad I could win her trust, but she's still not a very talkative type."

"Pleasure to meet you Helaku and Mai," the stallion replied cheerfully. "Makes sense I suppose. I've seen wolves who tend to fend for themselves and prefer their own company." Verloren looked over at the wolf and smiled a little. "It's nice to see that the two of you are such good companions. Its hard to find good companions these days. And don't worry about 'being out of it'. We've all been there and felt it. It happens to the best of us. Seriously." A faint pull on Verloren's mind made the stallion think back to something... but he stopped himself fro going down that road. His daughter would have been so glad that he was finally behaving again.

"Yes, it is. I feel fortunate to have such a loyal friend." Helaku nodded, feeling more comfortable with this Soquili already. Then again, the only stallion he'd come across since...she'd left...had been that black monstrosity. Veloren was certainly a world apart from that creature! There was something oddly familiar about the stallion though, something he couldn't quite place. Something about the way he looked, moved, spoke... "Seems so familiar..." he muttered, unaware that he'd spoken aloud.

Verloren tilted his head slightly with inquisitive eyes at the last bit Helaku said. "What? What seems familiar?" The other stallion was really out of it and Verloren could tell. Talking about such random things at such random times. "He must have a lot going on now," the green stallion thought quietly to himself. "I wonder what it could be..."

Crap, I did it again!
Helaku tried not to let his dismayed thought telegraph onto his face. "Oh...um, you look familiar, I just can't figure out why. I think I'd remember meeting you." He laughed lightly. "Even if I'm not the youngest Soquili there is, anyways. I'm not that senile."

"Well, everyone meets a lot of different characters and one can't expect to remember everything in life so its quite all right." The green stallion pawed at the earth for a moment with his golden hoof, contemplating something. "I'm pretty sure I'd remember someone who travels with a wolf. If not by name, then by their image and I remember seeing you at all. I believe this is the first time we've met." Verloren chuckled a bit. Such a strange stallion indeed.

Helaku tilted his head at the other stallion for a moment, then nodded. "True. I met a mare once, and then ran into her again a long while later. It took a bit of talking before I remembered who she was. But something about your look is still familiar..." He frowned slightly in thought as a idea raised itself. "Do you have relatives perhaps, or offspring? Perhaps that is the link..."

Golden eyes stared at the other stallion for a moment in awkwardness. "Errr... yeah... I do happen to have a daughter..." His eye slightly twitched for a moment. "So... don't tell me you're this 'little someone' that she's been telling me about on occasion." Oh, how Amara was in serious trouble... grown up or not, he was still her father in every aspect. "Well... this stallion doesn't seem to be THAT bad." Verloren thought quietly.

Helaku tensed slightly at the sight of a slight facial tic, wondering if his ribs were about to become re-broken. "Yeeeeeeesss..." he said slowly. Dark gold eyes held those of the other stallion for a moment. "If you speak of Amara, I can assure you that I hold no dishonorable intentions towards her, none at all." That raised the question in his own mind...did he hold intentions of any kind towards the dark mare? He wasn't sure yet, but even if he did, they certainly wouldn't be considered dishonorable.
He hoped.

".... Uh huh..." The green stallion observed his counterpart on the other side. Verloren hadn't expected his daughter to find anyone... if anyone of interest so soon after they'd come home from their long journey. In fact, Verloren was even surprised by his daughter for he didn't expect her to be so willing as to find another someone to be with not long after the events that they'd experienced. With a sigh, the green stallion shook his head a bit. "Well, you do seem to be treating her well for she often comes home in high spirits of sorts. Worried, but in high spirits." Golden eyes glanced over Helaku. "What kind of trouble have you been in lately? My daughter really has been worrying about you constantly at home. I can't get her to stop pacing around half the time."

Well, daddy dearest didn't seem too convinced. This was a new thing for Helaku, as none of his previous interests had had visitable parents. He could sympathize, however. He would have been the same way with Akila...had been. "I admit to treating her rudely upon our first meeting, but I have been doing my best. As for trouble...I ran into a rather nasty brute a few weeks ago. She found me afterwards and fetched a unicorn to help." His eyes flicked to the side. "My mate...had left me some months ago."
