The female prowled slowly, paws touching the grass softly as she moved. She had spotted a gazelle, and a small one. It's life would be forfeit in a minute, and the female suddenly lunged, rushing to attack. However, the sudden movement drew the animal's attention, and it fled-leaving one hungry lioness to look for something more acceptable.
Like a rabbit.

Steadily, slowly, glove-marked paws stepped across the grasses. Why was he drawn to these lands? Perhaps it was the knowledge of who lived there. It seemed that, though he'd only ever remember his one son before coming home... He had slowly accumulated two more sons in Paki and Danzi. Bodaway stopped, watching a gazelle bound by, then looked in the direction it'd come from. Well, if it wasn't... It was the lioness from before, when he, Khepri, and Paki had been on their way into the lands. A chuckle rumbled in his throat before he went walking over. "Having trouble there?"

Kabichi looked up to the lion from before, and shrugged, looking around a bit.
"Hunting. Moved too soon."
She frowned, trying to remember what her mother has taught her of hunting as a tiny cubling, and snorted.
This whole stalking thing was a b***h.

The male tilted his head, then looked after the gazelle. "That's the wrong sort of prey for a lion to hunt, anyway. That's cheetah food." Gold eyes looked about, scanning the plains. Tail curling, he suddenly moved into the grass, crouching down. "Zebra, though..." He paused, looking back. "Care to learn to hunt? I can see you don't know how..."

Kabichi moved to complain, then fell on her belly to follow the example, nodding.
"My momma only taught me a little before..."
Kabichi went mute, and sighed.

The male nodded quietly, then slunk off into the grass. Stalking the herd, he moved with the steady grace of a well-learned hunter. Now and then he paused, making sure the herd didn't see him. Carefully, calculatingly, he placed his paws. When he was close enough, only then did he launch out after them. The bleating of the herd filled the air as they broke into a run, and the lion chased them. A blur of red, black, and white, he soon closed in upon the old mare he'd selected in his mind. With a swift movement he brought it down and pinned it, making certain it wouldn't hit him with a hoof. The struggling soon ceased, and he let go long enough to call Kabichi over.

Kabichi's ears pricked, and she padded towards the older lion, slightly bouncing before sitting across, watching quietly, eyes wide as she took note of how he worked. He was larger, though...
And best to be polite! After all, it was his kill.

Bodaway sat back, watching the lioness. "Come, help yourself." He smiled, tail flicking. "There's more than enough for us both." And she looked like she could use it...

Kabichi smiled, bowing her head gratefully before bending, nibbling neatly.
"Thank you." She smiled, and sat after taking her fill, tail switching in contentment. She'd have to work on hunting bigger game, but for now, this suited her fine.

The male nodded, then sniffed a bit. "I still think you smell like somebody I knew once.." He tilted his head, watching her. Yes... Very much did she remind him... He eyed her ear markings, one ear twitching. "Was your mother's name Mioyo... By any chance...?"

Kabichi tilted her head, suddenly curious. Did he know her mother..!? If so... Was he going to stay friendly?

The male smiled in a kind, almost fatherly way. "Brown lioness, sizeable compared to even a Firekin..." He let out a sigh, looking off into the distance. "Once upon a time... She was my mate... But I was led to believe she and our son were dead... So I left.. It's good that she moved on..." He looked back, gold eyes glancing over the pale lioness. "Does she still live, at least...?"

Kabichi looked up, then slumped forlornly.
The night was still, but the lioness continued her restless prowling. She had been found, spied with her friend, her cubs.... Even now she knew they were close, and she lifted her small, red son and silently moved him away, before returning for the white, blue, and violet daughter.... This one looked like Mioyo the most, even for taking her pelt from her father's line. She moved to unite the first two when she was swiped, and forced to drop her....
The cub jerked awake, and crouched low as the rogue advanced on her mother. Within minutes, they battled, and more came from nowhere. Kabichi cowered, but made no noise. The lioness, however large, appeared broken as ever, and soon fell, before the rogues would let up... Seeing noone, they moved towards the den area, having scented others...
By the time Kabichi found the den, her father had been killed. She dared not seek her brother or sister, and fled....
"Mother walks the land no longer.... Coming, was when we passed through the lands she and my father died in..."
Kabichi looked away.
"Mother was broken even when I was born."

Sorrow filled the Firekin's eyes and face as he listened, then hugged the little lioness. "We are connected through your mother, it seems... I hope she walks the stars with peace." His ears flicked a bit as he sighed, then smiled almost tiredly. "Perhaps we could be each other's family. My son is gone, as is my former mate... But she lives on in you. Your parents are both gone... But I am still here." His tail curled, brushing against hers. "Perhaps... Perhaps you could be my daughter, of sorts."

Kabichi looked up, and smiled gratefully to the much larger lion, and nuzzled his leg, grateful for his offer.
"I would be honoured... And I know Mother would be grateful."
She smiled, and playfully pawed at the Firekin.
She hadn't played since that fateful day.
