It's Britney, b***h. Locke shut his eyes slowly and allowed a small breeze to run through his hair, watching the ripples it made on the grass in the field. He was enjoying himself - the weather was pleasant, not warm and not cold and perfect with the breeze. It was lunchtime and he was currently awaiting the arrival of Calentze. The fifteen-year-old bit slowly into a sweet roll and smiled at the taste. It really was a lovely day out.
Locke found himself frowing though, despite the perfect conditions. Calentze was late. That certainly wasn't very fair! If you had someone waiting on you you were supposed to be prompt. Really, anything but noticeably late! Locke made a small face at the thought - what could Calentze possibly be tied up with in the first place? The Unicorn thought about it for a moment and found he had no clue. Still, unless it was a complete bloody emergency you weren't supposed to be late after promising to meet someone!

Calentze huffed as he ran through the school, cursing his teacher for holding the whole Magical Runes class back, just for a reminder that next class would be a lecture!! he had practically given them a lecture about a lecture!! He wasn't please, Locke would be upset about him being late.
The 18-year old rounded a corner and darted out of one of the side doors, sprinting onto the field. It was hard running with a bag of heavy tomes and a tall staff, you had to hold everything up so your legs didn't get tangled or your wings damaged by being banged against by the swinging shoulder bag. He smiled, slowling down a little as Locke came into view.
"Locke!!" he called, running the distance between them quickly before he huffed his breathing out, trying to catch his breath as he flopped onto his back on the grass, next to Locke. "sorry...I was late...class...held back.." he explained through panting breaths, hoping the younger male would forgive him.

Locke set down his roll, feeling rather glum as his eyes scanned the field once again, feeling an automatic smile grace his face as Calentze came into view. Luckily the other seemed to be in a hurry - Locke really wasn't quite sure how he would have felt if Calentze hadn't been in a bit of a rush. He kept a small smile on his face as Calentze threw himself down on the grass and panted his explanation.
"I see." He smiled down at his friend, leaning over to peck the other on the cheek. They weren't lovers or anything - just the thought of that was capable of making Locke blush - but they were good friends. Or, he thought so, at least. If there was anything between them it was probably mostly summarized by some hugs and a few kisses on the cheek. Locke gave a little grin to his friend. "At least you were quick once you escaped." He commented.

Calentze chuckled at Locke, sitting up to place a returning kiss on his cheek. It was a greeting they had somehow gotten into the habit of doing, he had no idea when it had started and he wasn't complaining, it was enjoyable. "well I'd rather not be scolded for taking my time, especially by you" Calentze smiled at him. "you're a ferocious little thing" he teased, taking his bag off and pulling a small bag out of it, it contained his small lunch.
His gaze settled on Locke and he smiled once again, planting another kiss on the other cheek of his friend just for the hell of it. He was very fond of his younger friend, some might even say he was crushing on him. He knew they had /something/, he just didn't know if Locke would like him trying to move the relationship up. He was hesitating really.

Locke rolled his eyes lightly as Calentze teased at him. Of course, he could be formidable when he wanted to! Locke pulled a small face that instead blended into another small smile as Calentze's lips made contact with his cheek yet again. Even Locke was aware that there was something between them, he just wasn't about to be the one to admit to it. Besides that, he wasn't at all sure how Calentze felt about him and wasn't about to say anything that meant he was misinterpreting the other.
The Unicorn pulled himself back up into a sitting position, pulling his knees to his chest and once again enjoying the weather, now with Calentze. "It's such a lovely day~" He spoke, smiling pleasantly and closing his eyes. The perfect day to have lunch outside. Locke brushed back a strand of hair from his face that had escaped it's usual area of residence by being teased out by the breeze. He wasn't quite sure what to say at the moment, really, so he decided not to speak anymore than was necessary for the moment.

Calentze smiled at his friend before opening the small bag, pulling a small bread roll out of it. He bit into the savory food and looked around at other students that were formed in groups around the campus, talking and chatting. He had lightened up since coming here, mainly because he had been charged with being Locke's mentor when the Unicorn first came, it was something all higher year students needed to do and he had done so grudgingly, until he realised how pleasant his company was, thus he had stuck as his buddy for nearly three years now.
"yes, it's a shame that in a few weeks, I'll be leaving for summer for the very last time" he said, finishing his roll and lying back, staring at the cloudless sky. It was his final term in school, then he'd be going as an apprentice to the Mage over in the Butterfly Kingdom. That meant he was going to be far, far away from Locke. He wanted to act and say something about their relationship, but he was too nervous to do so, what if Locke rebuffed him?? He sighed softly, a hand brushing through his long, dark hair. "i'm going to miss this place"

Yes, the day was completely and utterly lovely. Until Calentze spoke again. Locke felt an almost painful wrench in his stomach. Calentze was going far, far away. "Yeah." He replied, looking straight forward. He nodded as Calentze commented on how he'd miss the school. Would he miss Locke? Locke's mood blackened at the thought. It was likely that he'd quickly be forgotten for some other friend or pal or something.
He didn't even trust Calentze to remember him and made a face at the thought. The only reason Calentze was his friend in the first place was because they'd been forced together with the whole mentor thing. Locke had to admit, he really didn't have much in the way of friends. He wasn't social enough for that - Calentze was the only person he could ever remember initiating conversation with himself. Locke was horribly anti-social in manner and at times it could get a little depressing.

"and I'll miss you...our greetings aswell" Calentze added, if a little timidly. He wanted to stay here, but being offered apprenticeship so close to graduation was rare and very special, Calentze had to take it, he wanted too. He was only meant to be a buddy for a year for Locke, just to make sure he settled in and wasn't picked on. He was the only one who had stuck with his buddy, Calentze had a few close friends, but Locke was his favourite and special friend.
"I'll send you lots of letters and gifts Locke, just don't forget about me, alright??" he asked sitting up to stare at Locke, leaning over the younger male a little, there face's close. He blinked and realising how close their faces were, pulled back with a faint blush. He masked it quickly. "and make sure you graduate and be a good student" he added as an after thought, hugging Locke.

Locke nodded silently, suddenly not really feeling too well. He had no clue how he was going to cope without Calentze around - just the thought was enough to make him feel rather miserable. And he really didn't believe Calentze would remember him very well after he graduated and left to pursue his apprenticeship. It just seemed... very unlikely. Besides that, would they ever see eachother again after that?
Locke felt a small panic flow through his body. He didn't want Calentze to leave! He wanted to keep Calentze as close as he could for as long as he could. It just didn't feel as if that would turn out to be a very long time. He nodded bleakly as Claentze spoke again - it would probably be rather impossible to forget him. Locke blinked up in a slightly surprised realization as he noticed how close their faces were. Of course, Calentze pulled back quickly before speaking yet again. Locke didn't want to speak.
"Of course." But he did so anyway.

Eight Years Later - The Goblin King's Library
Calentze was sat in the library, staff resting against the chair he was perched in and head down as he absorbed the information the book was giving him on advanced magic circles. He had been a fully fledged court Mage for around three years now and had seen Locke on numerous occasions since his graduation; though they were breif and polite, he could still sense that attraction there.
Calentze frowned, his attention wandering to Locke, to his regret about not telling him he was attracted to him. Now he knew, he had fallen in love with the Unicorn, it wasn't attraction, like his young self had stupidly believed; it was love and it was still there. He frowned and closed the book, standing up, his wings folding in more closely to his back. He needed to relax and focus, Locke was gone, he hadn't seen him for five years now. He walked over to the shelves and put the book back, climbing up the ladder against the shelves of books to reach a few books on the tenth shelf.

Locke made his way through the library slowly, humming softly as he did so and gazing upon the rows and rows of books. It really was rather interesting to walk into a library every once and a while and just take time to enjoy how nicely all of the volumes upon volumes of books were arranged. A small smile graced his face as he ran his fingers lightly along the spines of the books on the shelves.
With Locke's rather anti-social nature he had a reason to like libraries. They were good places to stay. He'd holed himself up in the library at his old school after Calentze had left. He might as well have lived there the way he'd stayed in it. That made libraries feel comforting and homely to the Unicorn. He rounded a corner and glanced up blankly, finding he was not alone. Up to about the tenth shelf someone looked to be searching for books. Someone much too familiar. "Calentze..." He spoke the name in a whisper - probably inaudibly. And yet - how could it be Calentze?

Calentze had piled about six heavy tomes into one arm, the other running over the spines of the books as he read them over, poised to grab one. He heard someone approach and didn't notify them he had, a lot of people came through the library at times, he'd be twitchy if he turned at every pair of footsteps he heard. Bu that voice..He turned quickly and lost his footing, the books tumbling from his reach as he fell to the floor, holding an arm over his head incase a book hit.
"Locke...??" Calentze asked, a few moments after the last book fell. Looking up in surprise. It really was Locke!! He picked himself up and walked slowly over to him, looking surprised. He thought he'd never see him again. "..it is you.." Calentze said quietly, brushing a hand down Locke's cheek, gently.

Locke let out a small cry and let his hands fly to his mouth as he watched Calentze tumble down to the ground. For he knew it was Calentze - he was inmistakable. Locke tensed up slightly as Calentze spoke to him and brushed a hand down his cheek. Five years. It had been five years now. Locke had been keeping count. He looked down to the ground as if it would give him answers as to what to do.
And of course, the floor had no answers at all for him. "It's been a while." Locke finally managed to mumble with his eyes still locked on the ground. What exactly was he supposed to say? The last real conversation he'd had with Calentze had been eight years ago! Five years was a long time. Eight years was even longer. "Are you alright?" The Unicorn added as his eyes located the fallen books on the floor and he remembered the fall - which really had been from fairly high up...
In truth, Calentze felt like a stranger to Locke now. Not because he was one, but because Locke had made him into one.

Calentze felt strange, he had just been pondering Locke and now, here he was, popping up as if by a wish. He retracted his hand when he felt the other stiffen and felt himself internally ache, they were strangers now?? When had this happened, he wanted them to be friends again, for he knew he loved Locke. This was awkward and it felt worse when Locke looked down and away from him.
"yes..." Calentze murmured, lost on what to say. It was most likely his fault for them breaking away, he had thrown himself into some research he had been doing on fluxuations in the magical energy field. It was Oni, he now knew. "oh, i'm fine, how have you been??" he asked not liking how closed Locke was being.

"That's good." Locke nodded slowly. "I've been fine." He added. His stomach was curling uncomfortably now and his eyes were still glued to the floor. He'd made up so many different predicaments in his mind for when he and Calentze would meet again. This had not been one of them. He was closed like a box - unsure of himself and what he was doing by now.
He just wasn't sure how to handle the situation. Calentze, the only person he'd ever made a really true friend with and now he seemed to be the one turning the tables. He had imagined many a time that Calentze would be cold when they met again - that was not so. He was the one closer to that by now. He hadn't thought he'd be the one acting alien.
