The lake was always so much cooler than the ocean, one stallion mused as he stepped hesitantly into the shallow water to rinse off dirt from his hooves. The beach often did serve purpose to be his place of reason and a home away from home, but every now and then he would venture away from it... Though usually to see his mother. He was not a "momma's boy", but as both of his siblings were too busy off on their own to visit her, he had taken it up. It annoyed him to an extent, as in the end neither of his siblings knew how ill their mother had fallen.
His jaw tightened at the thought, and he was quick to take a few rushed steps into the cool water. It erased his thoughts momentarily, but did not do the job completely. It was hard to not think about his family. He had met others, but none seemed to stay with him for long. Marius had guessed that they were not interested in staying friends with him, or too busy with lives of their own. In a way he was jealous. He didn't necessarily have much to do in his adult life. He was expected to eventually continue on te family line, but what else? As a foal he was expcted to frolic and play, which he did not do much...
The tall stallion sighed, frustrated with himself.

Neve spiralled down, her wings spread wide as she steadied herself on the updrafts. Her cloven hooves thudded heavily on the ground and her wings folded against her flanks, as she looked around, shaking her mane and tail into something that resembled neat after being blown around by the wind.
She let out a sigh, feeling a slight click in her leg as she moved towards the lake. The flight had done litte to let out her feelings of frustration at not being able to help her mother; she knew that Izusa was at a crossroads in her life but Neve didnt have the life experience to be able to properly advise her, and she really didnt want to find Guilian and ask him. Her father, for all that Neve love him, was the last Soquili that her Kalona mother should be seeing.
And coupled with family problems, Neve was feeling a different kind of frustration...she halted at the waters edge and blinked. Either she was seeing things or there was a perfectly fine looking stallion standing in the shallows. She shook her mane again before clearing her throat to announce her presence.

His thoughts had clouded his other senses, as he had not heard anyone enter the surrounding area... At least by foot. His eyes stared back at his guarded expression, even alone not letting his feeling be portrayed on his face. Marius, when with others, often offered smiles of encouragement and simple nods, but it all came with his manners. He often thought it did not bother him that he often did not express himself, but it kept others happy. That was the point, no? If others were happy, he was happy. If his mother was happy, he was thoroughly joyful.
A throaty noise broke through his throats, his ears perked and he lifted his head quickly. His lips pressed together in a firm straight line, looking over in the direction of the noise. Though when usually came by, he would give a polite smile and a nod of recognition. It took Marius a few seconds to realize someone was standing there, and his expression relaxed... Though tension was still evident.
The other was a mare. Mares... He inwardly groaned. He had been surrunded by s much estrogen lately... But he'd be lying if he said he didn't enjoy it. He understood the mindset of a male. Females ere different, and tended to acept him often. Whether or not for the right reasons he did not know. Marius watched her, hiding the curiosity in his face as he bowed his had lightly with recognition. He licked his lips, finding them dry as he opened his mouth to speak.
He hesitated to talk, which concerned him. He was often eloquent, but noone often came upon him when he was seriously deep in thought. Perhaps he was a tad dazed? He inwardly frowned and swallowed.
"... G'afternoon," he greeted, bi-colored eyes scanning her face. He wondered if she wanted to get a drink of water, and if he were in the way. He would wait for her to say something, as he had already expressed some rude behavior already (at least in his book). If he walked away, she may take it as his leaving due to her presence... Even though at this time he wanted to be alone.
Or did he? Company... Maybe it was what he needed.

Neve had watched the stallion, lost seemingly in his own reflection before the noise she had made to garner his attention registered with him. 'Lost something?' she asked, her pale eyes still staring unabashedly at the whole of him, well that which she could see that wasn't obscured by water. 'Or do you simply like to commune with the fishes?'
She didnt care that he was in the water that she wanted to take a drink from, after all it wasnt as if the aquatic life left the lake to toilet, she was not a picky or squeamish mare by nature. She smirked at him, and lowered her head, showing off her neck in a most elegant light (well she hoped at any rate!), before standing up straight again, tilting her head as she looked at him.

Her words registered in his mind and he had to hold back from saying that he had never lost anything, since he never hadit from the start. He watched her with guarded eyes, unsure of whether to take her tone as a playful one or a mocking one. Her appearance... The ways he held herself... He almsot felt as if it were a mix of both. He watched as she mimiced his motion, and it was uncharacteristic of himself to take a lingering glance at her neck. He kicked himself mentally. He often tried to focus on other's faces and every now and then their wings as most "Winds" seemed to enjoy their extra appendages as a topic of conversation.
"Simply thinking," his voice carried over the water, finding himself to be playing along if that's what it were to be called. His polite way of speaking licked at his words, but they had a more playful tone in them. "Whether or not I lost something wuld certainly not be very interesting to a stranger," Marius said, taking a step towards the shore but keeping himself in the water. A light smile tugged at his lips, but whether or not it was forced could not be known, not even to the stallion.
"And you are here for a drink I suppose?"

'And one thinks better in the water?' Neve chuckled to herself, and walked straight into the water. Her breath caught a little at the sudden change in temperature, but she kept a light look on her face as though it hadn't bothered her. 'I think..' Neve smiled, this time showing her small, pointed eyeteeth. 'That this water is wet, and so am I.' she laughed properly, turning and walking back out again. 'If I did take a drink, I would be drinking of you..and I dont even know your name.' She shook herself, almost like a dog would, ridding her coat of water droplets, and she opened one wing, sweeping it around her front as far as it was able to go, and making a mock-bow. 'I am Neve.'

He kept his face impassive at her words, watching her enter the water as well. At her smile he caught onto sher sharper teeth, and besides his guarded expression his muscles tensed as well. He hadn't seen another with such teeth before... But she did not hold the frightening image of a Kalona. But all too soon she backed out onto the ground, and now he had a good feeling she had been mocking him. He inwardly frowned at the mare, keeping till in the water.
Her words however, almost sent a chill down his sine. He didn't know why, but it did little to comfort him. The inside of his mouth was dry, and he did not know of a quick and unseen way of drinking water. He did not wnat her to think that his sudden lap of water would be due to nervousness, as he was sure that would serve to give her pleasure. But isn't that what he did foten, do things to make others happy?
His eyes glancec to her wings, and interest flickered in his guarded gaze as he watched her bow with her wing. "Neve," He repeated, the name rolling off his tongue, foreign to his ears. It was only appropriate to reply with his own name. He did not offer a bow this time, but simply jerked his head to toss his mane over one side of his neck, "Marius is my name. Now you may drink." He said calmly, still wary of her.

Neve got something from him; an air of..it wasnt fear but reservation. She purred inwardly, a little unsure as to why exactly he had become guarded around her for she showed little outward appearance that would give her Kalona lineage away, but pleased nonetheless. What she had gotten from her mother was a streak of spite that reared its head every now and then - that and a temper that would flare without warning.
'Marius..' she spoke his name with a little sibilant flourish to the 's', and gave a half smile, coupled with a cheeky wink, piling it on now, using talents she had gotten from her casanova father. 'I never needed your permission.' her head lowered again and she took a most leisurely drink, making a big performance of licking her mouth when she had finished. 'Most refreshing. And now, sir, are you to stay in the water all day?'

The way she spoke was almost enticing, with how she dragged out the final letter in his name. But in a way, it reminded him of a snake - lovely but poisonous. His expression stayed the same at her wink, as he could connect it to her tone. It almost seemed like she was showing off perhaps even flirting, but what for? They were mere strangers, but it didn't help that he was curious about her actions. His eyes betrayed him as he watched her drink, though he nearly stiffled a chuckle at her performance. He was certain she was trying to hit some mark with it, but to him it was quite humorful.
After she was done he looked away and lowered his head to the water, sipping it. His dry mouth disappeared, along with his throat. Lifting his head he stood tall, giving her a funny look as i it were obvious. Wasn't it? She was his company now it seemed, and if she wanted out, it would be only polite to follow onto land.
He turned towards the shore and began to walk, not bringing his hooves high enough to make an obscene amount of splashing. As soon as his back legs were out of the water, he took a couple of steps away from the mare and shook off his coat, trying not to hit the mare with water droplets. He kept his eyes ahead, not trying to look at her, "Obviously not, it seems," he stated, flciking his long tail free of water droplets, "So where do you hail from, Neve?" He inquired, knowing well it was rude to ask about family so he instead would ask of origins.
She certainly did look exotic, so perhaps she did not come from the surrounding area?

Neve watched Marius's movements carefully; watching and waiting for him to get up onto land. He had a certain air about him, and she noted the length of his tail, the hairs sweeping the ground behind him as he walked. 'Good, I'm sure it would do you no good, and you wouldnt be wanting to catch a chill.' Her eyes half-lidded, she stepped to one side herself as he shook in a similar fashion as she had previously done. 'Here, this area.' she said, walking away from him a little further before turning, her wings rustling a moment and then going still once more. 'I was born not too far from here.' Neve looked at him properly again, before asking; 'And you?'

((I was right. Marius has never met a mare like Neve before. xD -Is thoroughly enjoying interaction so far-))
His attention flickered to her wings, though he heard every word she said. He was quick to look away from her feathered appendages and to her face, ghis brows furrowing. Had he stumbled upon her territory then? Some could be so possesive over their birth lands... He cleared his throat and took a step towards her, his bi-colored eyes considering her words for a moment.
"My birthgrounds were in the mountains. So if I caught a chill it would not compare to the chills up there," he tried to retain a chuckle, but it slipped past his lips. Topic of origins was a casual one, one that was often comfotable to speak about and boring at times. She had been vague, but many were on this topic... It probably held little interest to many. He wouldn't mind if she just walked away and left him to think, but he'd be lying to think so.
He hated his curiosity sometimes.

(( XD ))
Neve had not been sure the first time Marius had looked at her wings but now she was. She smiled inwardly; likes them does he? She rustled them a little again, arching a little as though she were a preening bird. 'Yes but being wet like that is uncomfortable.' she said. 'And you don't seem to have any thicker hair then I.' She paused, eyes raking over him again. He certainly was a balm to the eyes, if a little quiet. 'So, did you get those swirls from your mother, or your father? I got my wings..' and as she said the word she spread them wide, curving them so that the longest feathers brushed the grass. 'From my father.' She presented a cloven hoof for inspection, and flashed another broad smile to show her fan teeth. 'Those I got from my Kalona mother.'

She must have caught onto his glance, since she was now arching a bit and moving them again. What was she going for, the mare? If she was trying to intrigue him more, she didn't need too. Despite his will he was thoroughly curious about her, but mostly about her personality. Most mares didn't act like this, at least the ones he knew. they laughed an smiled and acted predictably. This one... She was kind of irritating him with her unpredictability.
She brought up family, which was a predictable topic, he mused. But they were mere strangers, what else would they speak of? He glanced bck to her wings, watching them spread. He rose his brows, looking to her hoof. My my, she was a proud one, wasn't she? He nodded, acknowledging that he was listening. "My swirls," he began, motioning to his back, "Are from my mother. My tail and coat come from my father." He explained, looking over her own coat. She wa sthe oddest shade of red...
The word 'Kalona' set in, and his brows furrowed momentarily. "A Kalona mother and a Wind father? Aren't you quite the mixed breed," he chuckled, not wishing to offend.

The wings got folded against her sides again and Neve swished her tail, the soft curls dancing a little. 'They are a most fascinating pattern,' she said, in an almost languid tone. Whether she had hooked him by her own means, or whether he was sticking around for some reason of his own..it didnt really matter and she didnt think that she could bear to let him slip through her hooves so quickly.
'I am the best of both.' Neve spoke a little tartly. She already knew that she was a 'mutt', she could see it in her mother's expression sometimes. It wasnt something they would ever discuss, but she knew that some of Izusa's personal problems stemmed from the fact that she had coupled and spawned with a non-Kalona. 'Believe me, were I my mother, we would not be talking in such an easy fashion.'

It dawned upon Marius what exactly she was doing at that moment. Her tone, her movements... She was enticing him, wasn't she? He stiffled back a laugh at the thought. He, Marius, seduced? Tha was a laugh. But... Maybe he was a little enticed... No, no no! He was not going to play some mare's game... Especially since in a way he was interested in a way he shouldn't be.
His guarded expression came over his curious one, but he nearly dropped it at her sour tone. Did it bother her that she was a mix between the two? Would she rather be one over the other. He tilted his head at her comment, andtook a step towards her, "I would expect not if she is a Kalona," he said, watching her carefully, "But you are not your mother, and we are speaking in an easy fashion. I assume you probably got tha from your father, then?" He stated more than asked, clicking his tail.
