Sawa sighed to himself, laying on his side on a lone rock in the long grasses of the pridelands. His tail twitched once as he thought about what he needed to do. Siyo was pissed that he wanted to bring a girl along with them on his travels... and Sawa just didn't get it. They'd discussed bringing lions in to join their company before... it would be nice to have a new face around. Especially such a lovely face..
He grunted and lifted his head, eyes narrowing. The sky was a bloody red color but it was very soothing being that intense. The sun had almost completely set... and that meant making the long trip to the two-leg village for some dinner. He smirked to himself, shaking his head more. Maybe that would cheer Siyo up.

Auri padded along the dirt path quietly, coming out of the bushes. Another day of exploring gone to waste: everything was damp and muddy from the recent rain-storms, and she had no desire to match her fur to the browning scenery.
Her tail twitched unconsciously as she walked around a spare cluster of boulders. As much as she would like to stay home and spend time with her family, her parents had always grieved over Tain's disappearance. So staying inside the den and remaining happy for even just a while wasn't a prospective option.
As Auri rounded the corner of the last boulder in the group, she spotted something red and black, with a tuft on the end, laying in the middle of the path. She almost stepped on it: she had been so collected in her thoughts. Her nose told her that it wasn't a snake, but the recent rains had dampened everything, so she couldn't be sure. A tentative paw nudged one side of the colored appendage curiously.

"Eh?" His head jerked to the side and his tail flicked away from whatever had touched it and he moved to his feet, eyes that were just surprised slipping into something of relaxation and amusement. "Wha'ave we 'ere?" He muttered very softly to himself. He was staring into the eyes much greener than his own of what he could only assume to be a pridelander. She was had the lovely wheat-gold coloring to her pelt anyhow... he wasn't sure about the white. In any case she looked amazing, and older too!
"Ello." He said, grinning at her and dipping his head. "Can I 'elp yeh or were yeh jus' pokin' fer fun?"

Auri shook her head and blinked in surprise. This strange limb was actually a tail, belonging to some adolescent male, whose colorings were unusual and bright compared to her own. Though being half-white wasn't strange enough, she mused. At least she wasn't blood-red and black, and could be seen from any angle in the savannah.
"I would say that it was simply for fun," she replied, twitching her own tail. "But that would be lying. It was just curiousity, and my nose has the day off, so I had to see for myself what, exactly, was lying in my path."
Oh, he was handsome alright. For a male significantly younger than she. And he knew how to use his looks, she bet. The way he stood, the way his eyes instantly changed from surprise to relaxation. Oh yes. He knew very well what to do and just when to do it. The thought amused her.

He grinned "I be glad yer nose 'as the day off then, would no' wan' yeh teh smell me after so many days with ou' a bath.." He teased. He honestly didn't smell that bad... even though he probably had't bathed in a few days. But honestly, he wasn't dirty or anything.
He sat himself down again, even though he'd been about to go and steal his supper. Who needed to eat when he could feast on her beauty, right? His tail flicked away from her and he grinned again, ears perked and alert. "M'names Sawa, wha' can I call yeh... or will gorgeous do?" He never thought of his lines as corny or over used... in fact he didn't say them as lines, he was always serious when complimenting a girl.

Her ear flicked idly. "Auri," she answered. Even though he didn't necessarily say his lines as, well...lines, they still were such.
And if she had been a younger, naive little thing, she would have fallen for him in an instant. The problem was, being fickle had never been an issue.
She sat down as well, seeing no reason not to continue the conversation. Even though her stomach was bound to growl sooner or later, dinner could wait.
"So what are you doing here, lazying about in what sun we have left before darkness takes over?" she asked, truly curious. It wasn't often she saw a strange-colored lion relaxing on a stone after a rainy week. Nor was it a common sight for such a blood-red sky, but she supposed that the two--the sky and this odd male--matched for the moment, so she didn't give the coincidence much thought.

Sawa chuckled and winked. "Exactly tha'." He replied, not embarrassed that he was being lazy. Why should you be? He liked taking it easy! "Though I was abou' teh go an' ge' food." He added, seeming to think this over.
"Yeh e'er steal from a two-leg before?" He grinned at her, wondering if she was the type of girl that liked excitement or was a little stuck up. He was okay with both types of females, but he liked excitement himself. When he wasn't enjoying a sun nap, that was.

Auri's eyebrow rose so high that she sat down in surprise. Steal from a "two-legger?" A human? Did this Sawa want a death warrent so badly enough to approach, see, and steal from a human?
"I've never even thought of the idea," she replied, still rather shocked at the simple, innocent way he said it. "Did you think that up or did someone else? Have you done it before?"

His eyes widened when hers did, though more out of mirth than surprise. Oh my! Did pridelanders not do this? He tried to suppress a chuckle because he suddenly felt like a cub being caught doing something naughty. He slowly shifted and just grinned at her.
"Dunno, I know tha' Siyo an' I do it a lo'." He hoped he wouldn't be judged too harshly in this, but this was the way he lived and he wouldn't deny it. "I's usually easy... jus' gotta know the righ' spots is all." His head tilted and he stared at her inquisitively. "Yeh reall 'aven't e'er tried it?" He wondered if she wanted to... though he wouldn't really want to put her in so much danger, she seemed almost like she was afraid of those dumb two-legs. Maybe he could show her rhino baiting!

Auri forgot their age difference for a moment and simply sat there, staring at him like a cub learning from an elder. "You really do it? No, I've never tried it..." she trailed off, still shocked at the very idea.
Though part of her was extremely disgusted and cautious at the idea, the other half yearned to watch. Watch what? Sawa stealing...something from the two-leggers. What, she didn't care, but she wanted to see it in action. Kind of.
"Are you going to do it?"

He shrugged slightly and shifted, stretching out his lanky legs. Even though she asked she seemed not to like the idea so much...
His stomach growled and he gave her a sheepish smile. "Well... yah. I am very 'ungry righ' now..." He said slowly, shifting and turning. "Woul' yeh like teh come with me Auri?" He couldn't just leave her there, if she liked the idea or not! She was too pretty... besides, he hadn't gotten to have a nice, long conversation... "Yeh can watch a' a distance so tha' yeh can' no' be spotted. It'll be fun.." He tried to entice her to go along with him.

Auri blinked again, still thinking.
"I'll come," she finally replied warily, looking at him. "But I'll watch a little ways away, like you said." Nodding, her ears twitched back as a calm, cool wind flowed through. "Just in case," she added as a precaution.
Again, she was torn into two: the adventurous side of her demanded she throw caution to the wind and join Sawa in this 'hunt.' But her cool, peace-loving side shook her head firmly, insisting she stay and watch, if she must, but not to participate.
Damn her having both parents in her head.

He beamed at her and nodded enthusiastically. Good, she would be coming! He shifted and got to his feet, starting to slip through the grasses. "I's this ways a bi', abou' a good forty minute walk." He said, quite cheerfully. forty minutes to talk to her!
His tail flicked and he glanced back to her as he lead the way. "So yeh 'unt in groups in this pride, don't ya?" He didn't know too much about the hunting tactics of pride females.

Auri nodded her acceptance at the long walk--which would prove to be interesting, no doubt--and came to her feet as well, brushing off the dirt her tail had accumulated with a few waves.
Sawa seemed so excited! It must be a thrill, getting so close to the two-leggers and retreating back with something that they had made, seen or unseen in the process. And then expecting that item, or food, or whatever it was that had been snatched, before deciding what to do with it.
It made her feel like a cub again, she found. The same rush was undoubtedly filling her body, yet much slower than Sawa's, probably.
His question came as a surprise; she blinked before her mind registered what he had asked and she nodded with a sheepish smile. "For the most part. Lionesses hunt mainly in groups of six or seven, perhaps even more or less, as we excel at it. But Mother and I will go off alone to have some time together and hunt. I'm the only other girl besides her in our little family, and ever since Tain..." she trailed off, frowning at herself for bringing that topic up when she told herself that it was not going to happen. "Anyway, Mom's been down in the dumps for a while, so any chance I can get to cheer her up I take. And if it's through hunting, then so be it.
"Do you ever hunt regular prey? Or just steal from the two-leggers?" she asked him. Where was his family? Did he mention a father--or a brother, earlier? Siyo?

So that was how the females did it... he was quite amazed and pleased at how skilled a group of them could be, he wished he could watch it happen some day.
She started to speak of her mother and then this Tain character but quickly avoided the name... what had happened there? He wasn't going to push her about it, that wouldn't be fair. "Sounds lovely, I be' she enjoys an' appreciates it a lo'." He said carefully, though truthfully. He hadn't seen his mother since he was an older cub... he'd lost his father even before that. But had his family left his dad... or his dad left his family? He wasn't sure, or in a hurry to find out.
She made it sound like a bad thing, stealing from two leggers all the time. He chuckled and shook his head. "Siyo an' I be terrible a' the actual 'unt.." He said slowly, offering her a sheepish smile. "Neither of us were e'er taught 'ow to. I lef' my family when I was very young.. guess I 'ad a wonder lust for quite some time. Siyo's mum 'ated him so.. he left shor'ly af'er I wondered into his 'omelands. We scavenge some times... bu' I like teh think tha' this way be more fun."
