There are lots of high schoolers in this guild, so I was just curious...what are your thoughts on pursuing this art? And if you plan to do so, what are some colleges or conservatories that you'd like to apply to?

I have so many dream colleges lined up it's crazy. And it's likely none of them are at all plausible.

My number one dream college is The Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts. Paul McCartney, from what I understand, is the lead patron and they don't teach just one aspect of the arts, they teach it all. Even if you're majoring in acting, you learn a little bit of management because performance art is crazy and you want to be prepared for whatever they throw at you. I really don't care how much debt I'm in after this. I will be in England and close to my best friend and in England close to everything that is awesome. Plus I'll be able to drink legally.

My other colleges go pretty much in order like this
1 Columbia University Chicago
2 The National Circus School (Montreal)
3 AMDA (NY campus)
4 Bloomfield College
5 Oberlin College

I don't really care what college I go to if I don't go to Liverpool. My family will get a tax cut because my mom will still be in college at that time, so I don't really have to worry too much about the out-of-state thing. I'm piling on the student loans anyway. Huzzah for being an accident baby! My parents still haven't recovered.

One that's really good but really hard to get into and REALLY hard to stay in is the Cincinatti Conservatory of Music. I know, it sounds like music only, but they've got an outstanding theatre department as well.

Others are:

Indiana University
University of Southern California (mostly film)
New York University (Manhattan)

Yeah, it is really hard to stay in. My brother went there for like a quarter and fricking hated it. He ended up going to some no-name arts school in Kentucky that turned out to be pretty sweet. I should call up and ask him sometime the name.

Sadly, I haven't planned for acting to become my profession. I know, that's horrible. But above all, I want to be a teacher. My dream is to go to Cambridge University and study Drama and English Education. I want to be either a Theatre or English teacher, and, if possible, do some community theatre in my spare time.

Cincinatti Conservatory is known as I believe the best for musical theatre.

Ooh, I here mixed things for AMDA. You should visit the school. Because I'll hear really good things. But then I'll hear extremely bad things.

I second that one! I hang out at a Broadway community on LiveJournal.com and people ask about AMDA all the time and others always seem to respond saying it's a terrible school to go to.

Personally, I didn't have much money to go to some big fancy theatre school, so I went to the best LOCAL theatre school, which is still great because alot of the guest directors and stuff that come in work in New York and I know of more than one students that have been hooked up with jobs through the school.

I have a couple of friends who are at the film school at NYU. They love it. I don't think I've heard anyone complain about it. Have you visited the school yet?

I'm at a state university right now, and it's got one of the best departments in the state. The department is medium sized, but the members that actually are serious, and not just doing it for fun, is a fairly small group. So we all get individual attention. I really like it.
I do hope to go to the Cincinatti Conservatory next year though. It's been a dream for a long time now, especially since I'm much more into the musical theatre side of things.
But I'd say take a look at your Universities. They're a good starting place.

in case anyone is wondering about NYU's Tish and Steinhart schools, Tish is more for actors who wanna do non-musical plays and Steinhart is more for musical theatre, i think (Steinhart rocks! i read the cirriculum and it is super ^^)

I don't think I'm going into acting as a career (though it's something to dream about). I'm going to school to become and English/Theatre teacher. I'm majoring in English or sociology and minoring in theatre. I think I'll end up going to Nazereth College. It's not a fanomanal acting school, but they do have a pretty good program and It's kind of close to home.

Ooh! Any of you kids planning on going to NYU, look for a kid named Fareed. It's an unusual name, so you shouldn't forget it. He's a sweetheart. Be his friend. 3nodding
