Okay, I can under stand cutting out the card reader (who uses that anyways), and two of the USB cords...
But the Backwards compatibility? It's not like they just cut out the emotion engine, they cut out every last bit of it from the 40 gig...
What the hell! This really doesn't make any sense to me at all.

The average buyer wont care, it's a PS3 that was 600 bucks but now 400, it'll sell, the guy who kind of knows his s**t will be pissed, but then come down to a choice, 400 bucks of 600.
Im pissed, but then again, It's a choice.......

I love my 60 gig with the Emotion Engine even more now... *snuggles PS3*

People with PS2s and see that the 40 gig has no BC will simply look elsewhere since they don't want to pay over $400. They might still have BC with Firmware updates but the PS2 fanbase really want BC for there PS2 games. Otherwise they move on to MS.

That's freaking stupid, now if I get this one (I'm looking to get a cheaper Ps3 model) I can't put my Ps2 up in the shelf! DAMN!

The software emulated BC is packaged in with the free firmware updates. So... you can't not have BC as long as you have all the latest firmware. I thought this was obvious. Is there something I am missing here?

If the 40GB PS3 has BC, fantastic. If Sony has gone to the ends of the earth, made a deal with the the gatekeeper of the Netherworld, "El Diablo", and somehow managed to somehow, using mad science, take BC out of the PS3, also fantastic.
I'm guessing price is more important then having to sacrifice more shelf space and pressing a couple more buttons.
