For those of you who have not yet heard about this movie, I suggest you go check it out right now.
For those of you who have, what is your opinion?

I personally fear the opening day of this movie. It depicts those who do not engaging in a sexual lifestyle as "squares," naive and innocent. (Which is ironic seeing as the main character looks like "Bob" from the Enzyte commercials.)
The catch-line of the movie itself is even "better late than never." and various descriptions of the plot tell of the friends dissapointment when the main character finally does find someone, but tells them the two of them have chosen not to have sex.
I also find the premise of the movie itself a little insulting. The audience is supposed to cheer on the protagonists noble friends as they attempt to "fix" their friend. Shall we look at this from another angle? Please consider the following: had the protagonist been gay and his friends set out to find him the right woman, the world would be up in arms. The aclu would sue until they died, protests would form outside of movie theatres world-wide.... Yet an asexual character is supposed to be amusing, a pathetic clown.
Frankly, I'm afraid that the term "asexual" will become synonymous with this movie, and that could be a very bad thing.

yes it could be bad, thats why we should get more people into this guild to understand that asexuality is not something to be made fun of and should be taken seriously.

I think I should get to work on that manga I've been dreaming of doing.

One day, when I'm good at anime, I'll make it an Asexual story.

Movies have to be about asexuals, not against them, but for them.

GAH!

Virginity is blessed.

We needn't fret that this one movie is going to forever ruin the definition of asexuality. Asexuality's acceptance is going to come after years of more public awareness. I can easily say we have it better than the homosexuals. There aren't any biblical references stating, "Thou shalt never dislike shagging another person."

Meanwhile, we should lighten up. Stereotypical references of gay men with lisps, "San Francisco accents," and overtly keen fashion sense isn't protested wildly, even though it is a satirical portrayal of a gay man, and some homosexual people can turn the other cheek and laugh with the crowd.

Freudian reasoning suggests that sexual orientation shouldn't be so horribly guarded if you're truly comfortable with it.

I don't like how the movie portrays the 40-year-old virgin. He could be asexual...or yet again, he might not be. Displaying asexuals as weird and uncool doesn't suit me...I'm glad I don't really watch movies.

Well, from what I've seen from the trailers, the man isn't asexual as he is just not well versed in the act of sex, and isn't very suave. It's been showed in the trailers that he tried and wanted to have sex with women, but, through humourous accidents like kicking the woman in the face while she sucked his toes, he was never able to complete the act, and thus began to lose faith that he would ever have sex.

This would mean that he was simply a dork (in the endearing way, it's how the audience begins to relate to characters in this sort of comedy) and couldn't have sex, even when he tried. It's just a movie, made for the general audience's amusement. If we just let it get to us, we'd be petty.

While it does seem that virginity is always smashed in Hollywood and, well, real life, it seems that the Fourty Year Old Virgin guy is just really bad at talking to women. I'd just like them to not hit him so hard for being a virgin. It's like when the fat kid/guy is used as a source of comedy relief. I'm always mentally urging him to get up from where they've tripped him and kick some a**, like I'd do. Hey, I'm a great pencil stabbity person...a bit of the old in-out HAW HAW HAW.

Sorry, it's 4AM, and I don't know where my children are. Haw.

Unfortunately, we're just going to have to accept that at the moment, it's a very sexual world. *shrugs* This is just another part of that world. I thought it looked funny.

Honestly, it's just a movie. It's not like a bunch of people ran off to try and make weird hover machines and find wookies after seeing Star Wars.

Just a movie. 3nodding

Yes, indeed the world is a very sexual place, infact, in some cases, revolves around it. Infact alot of people get laughed at in school because "they couldn't get laid."

But I honestly think that we should not fret about this movie, I mean, its not that hes asexual because he wants sex, he just has bad things happen to him around woman.

And remember, its just a movie.
