Chapter 1: How It Began
Rating: PG-13
I woke up at 3:14 in the morning. The screams of my mother had woke me up. I got out of bed with my stuffed dog and my long T-shirt with a picture of a duck on it. ((Just to make it less scary)) I wobbled to my door still very sleepy and opened it. I followed the sounds of yelling and wall banging to the living room. In the living room there was my tied up mother by this strange man who looked like a drunk Santa Claus. Then there was my dad who had a knife to his neck by another guy who looked like a zombie/leprechaun. The two scary men looked at me with a look that said “I’m gunna eat you”. “Amanda! Run! Run out of the house!!” my mom screamed at me. My dad seemed to hurt to speak. I did what my mom said and ran as fast as I could out of the house. The guy that looked like drunken Santa started to chase me. I ran all the way downtown still in my PJs and holding my stuffed Dalmatian. As I was passing Starbucks I tripped and fell flat forward. A family of four walked out and looked at me. ((Yes, apparently this family goes to Starbucks really early in the morning. ^-^)) I got up and whipped my dirty face and tears on my stuffed dog. The mother of the family, with her blonde curls, kneeled down in front of me. “Honey, why are you crying??” she said very calmly. I looked behind me to see if that maniac was still chasing me. “My parents are being hurt by bad guys!!” I said with my awesome 3rd grade English. “Where are your parents?” Asked the father holding a skinny-faced boy sipping coffee threw a straw, and a little chubby boy holding his fathers hand. “F…forty-six Ca…Casino La…Lane”, I stuttered. “Ok, lets go.” said the mom. We drove up to my street. When we arrived at my house a policeman stopped the car and talked to the dad. I looked out the window of the car and saw 11 police cars, 3 ambulances, and 1 fire truck. I looked back at the dad and the policeman. As I looked I saw the father nod. The mom hopped out of the car and opened my door. She lifted me and kneeled down while putting me on one of her knees. “Sweetie, your parents have passed away. So Mr. Way and me are going to let you live with us. Alright?” she said very calmly. A tear dripped down my right cheek. Mrs. Way gave me a tight hug. I looked back at the two boys in the car seats so confused on what was happening. Mrs. Way put me back in the car and we left along with all the emergency vehicles. It was time to start living my life with the Ways.
