What surprised the doctor the most was that the 10-year-old really looked her age. "Some girls look like a teenager of 15 or 16 at that age. But not this girl." Still the delivery went smoothly. The young mother was given special treatment however. She was not admitted to the regular maternity ward lest this raise too many curious questions. She was given a bed in the children's ward. "The father of the baby came to visit her there as well. Many pregnancies in young girls are the result of incest. But that was not at all the case here. The father was a schoolmate of 13. A young guy as well." Robert Chef says the parents of the girl did not respond angrily. "The grandmother immediately took charge of the baby. She said she would raise it as her own child." Yesterday the medical weekly De Huisarts reported that 57 Belgian 10-year-olds had been prescribed a birth control pill last year. Some for medical reasons, but others for actual birth control. I didn't even know where my v****a was exactly located when I was ten! Same here... sweatdrop I was even telling my parents that I didn't want to be a girl, because of all the horror stories I heard about periods. I even though periods came from my a**. xd

I heard that the youngest person ever to give birth was five. They had no idea how she got pregnant, she was probably raped or molested. Her parents just acted like the girl ans her son were siblings.
But still, damn... that's young. That's crazy young.

If this had happened in the US both would have been arrested, possibly charged and jailed, for sexually assaulting/raping the other, put on the sexual offenders list as child rapists, and have their lives ruined.

Yeah, that's why I don't support statutory rape/age of consent laws sometimes. If two kids are exploring their sexuality, it's normal and there's no reason for it to be a crime, these kids just need to be taught about risks and dangers and precautions and social boundaries. If it's two consenting teenagers having sex or otherwise engaging in sexual activity, there's nothing wrong with that, either. Neither one of them is being harmed. They are not parental property, and it's not up to their parents whether or not they will have sex. If it's a young adult and a teen and there's no coercion going on, it's not a crime. Unless you want to tell me that I was molesting a child in the seven months that my boyfreind was seventeen and I was eighteen.

In PA, where I'm from the laws are reasonable as far as consent is concerned, I think. Although in some cases it can be a little odd if its enforced, I belive that in that sort of case the 13 year old would be considered responsable, because he was the older party. (I think that it's anything under 13 or 14 is automatic stachatory no matter who you sleep with, 13 or 14 - 16 its under 18, after 16 its up to 3 years older and its okay, so me having sex @ 18 with my 17 year old boyfriend was okay. Me at 21 having sex with a 17 year old, not so much. Correct me if anyone knows otherwise though)
But..seriously??!! When I was 10 I barely knew what sex was... I believe that I thought it involved alot of rubbing up and down. Infact I believe that was still during the point in time when I believed that babies happened in a woman's stomach if she ate all her veggies... (I actually swore of veggies for a few weeks and when confronted with it by my father I cried because I didnt want to have a baby... it was awkward for my dad, he didnt exactly know what to say)

Phaedra: Five? I didn't even know it was possible to get pregnant that young. I mean, you have to at least have a menstrual cycle before you are capable of having children.
Wow...on both accounts. That's just...wow.
I'm at a loss for words.

You have to ovulate to be capable of having children.
And you can ovulate without having your period.
There is this big misconception among teens that the period is the pinnacle of your cycle - it's not. It's just the ending.
Young girls, yes as young as 5 can go through 'precious puberty' in which their sex glands and other organs began to mature in ways that would only be seen in teens.
Right now in America, girls are going through puberty at younger and younger ages then ever before.

Icky. I wonder what the sex ed there is like. It might be interesting to compare the ages of pregnancy / abortion vs the type and quantity of sex ed in an area.

I started menstruating when I was nine-tenish... but sex? I didn't even know sex existed until I was like 12.

I started midway through 11-12 too. And at 10 I still thought kissing made babies. gonk
I wonder if they were imitating an older couple. Like a sister and her boyfriend or something. I've heard of that happening before. They're just playing and them bam the little girl gets pregnant and they thought it was just a game. confused

The boy was 13... most of us knew about sex by then... I wonder if he suggested it, and the girl, not knowing any better, consented...
Or they just have earlier sex ed than the states. It wouldn't even have to be earlier than a year earlier than where I went to elementary school. We had the very basics of sex ed in 5th grade. I was 11, but if I'd have had a later birthday, I'd have learned at 10. If they start in 4th grade... well, she'd learn at the age of 9 or 10.
