An glanced around quickly to make sure she was alone, then stepped out onto the water. The stream was too wide to jump and with the chilled wins coming in she didn't fancy the thought of getting her feet wet. So, instead she employed a trick she'd learned over years of watching the cattuar living on Draiocht, water walking. "Thanks daddy," she mused as she walked briskly across the surface.

Deucalion had been hunting near the stream and had set up a small fire to cook his catch. Originally he had set out for a rabbit or two, but settled for a rabbit and a fish. He shook his hands and wiped them on the sash tied around his waist. It'd be a while before his catch would be done so he had time to kill. He didn't fancy washing his hands in the seasonally cool water, but he wanted to rid himself of the few fish scales. He moved towards the stream and broke through the treeline.

An struggled to keep up with the pace of the stream. The natural grace employed by the cattaurs made water walking on moving water look easy. In reality one had to keep moving to avoid being dragged downstream, and constantly keep an eye out for bumps made by the water flowing over rocks. Finally she stepped onto the far bank, smiling.
"Better luck next time Mr. Stream!"

Deu had knelt down and had slipped his hands into the chilled waters of the stream, allowing its current to wash away the remnants of him cleaning his catch. He withdrew his hands from the stream with a sigh and curled and uncurled his hands to work warmth back into his fingers.
He overheard An's statement and lifted his gaze from his hands to scan around him. Not too far from him stood a female centaur along the edge of the bank. He stood up and dried his hands on the cloth about his waist. He blinked for a moment then ventured a grin. "I'm sure you showed the stream what for, eh?"

The voice gave An a start, but she knew he hadn't seen her trip across. If he had she would have been accused of mixed heritage by now. "Sure did!" She smiled. "Say, is that your fire I smell?"

Deu looked back towards the location of where he had set up a temporary camp. He smiled and turned back to the dusty rose furred centaur. "Yes, it is! Care to join me? I've got some food that I'd be up for sharing."

"Ooohh! If you insist!" An walked over to where the cervitaur was standing. "I still have some bread and fruit left from lunch. Would you like some?"
Avid_RPer18
"Sure! We can throw together a decent meal." Deu motioned towards his little camp. "After you. Just follow the smell of my cooking." He chuckled. "My name's Deucalion, by the way."

"All my friends call me An," she stepped towards the warm fire. "Ohh, now isn't this cozy? And I'd imagined myself eating all on my own beneath the cold stars tonight." This wasn't true, per say, she could have summoned a fire if she needed it. But a few dozen mates over the long years had thought her that most young men loved to be praised as the hero.

"Well, it's nice to meet you, An. I suppose you could call me Deu for short, but there are a plethora of nicknames that can be taken from my name so you can call me whatever." He gave a slight shrug. "It's okay, I guess. I just kind of threw it together." He grew up without too much female interaction so he didn't really know how to react. He decided to just be modest. "Feel free to make yourself at home." Deu checked the skewered rabbit and fish. "Ah, it appears we're just in time. They're ready."

"Lovely!" An reached into her bag and pulled out half a loaf of bread and a small variety of fruits. "Help yourself. So, tell me, what's a strapping young cervi doing so close to the forbidden forest?"

Deu slipped the rabbit off of it's skewer first, then the fish. He set them down in a shallow tin plate that he traveled with. "Sure. Take what you want and don't blame me if you leave hungry." He smiled as he picked up one of the fruits from An's bag. "I'm out here simply to travel and to see what I can see. No real point in it save for adventure. What about you? What's a pretty taur like you doing in a place this?"

"Oh well I'm heading right on in! I've heard some intriguing stories about the place, but I think the most I'll have to worry about are a few naga." She broke the bread in half and passed the larger piece to Deu. "Not for adventure though, just call it... research!"
