Paws stepped lightly towards the shore, moving through the water as if it wasn't even there. Liquid rolled off his form, slightly oily and waterproof fur shimmering in the sun that peeked through the trees. Yaxha had become board with swimming, bored with the everyday hum-drum of life he'd come to know. Surely there was something else out there, something more interesting. Something that could satisfy his adventerous tastes more so than the water ever had.
Shaking out, he sent dropplets flying. They soaked into the ground and dripped off the leaves. Underwater flim slid back from unusal silver eyes, allowing him to blink with a normal Kylandrei's lids. Dipping his head, he sniffed curiously at the ground, all the while chuckling to himself about nothing in particular. Less than tentative paws pushed excitedly against the ground, carrying him away from the home he'd known and into the trees. However unfamiliar the path, he figured instinct would lead him home again if he pleased. Pfft. As if he'd ever please.

Blinking idly, a Kylan lay beside a fairly large boulder near the forest edge, obsidian form sinking into the tall grass that grew around the very small clearing. She'd been to the area numerous times before, a distinct press among the grass where she used to sleep, small trails going back and forth in the grass. The fall was arriving, yellow leaves dotting the grassy canvas plenty in number. One in fact sat on top of the female Kylandrei's head.
Large ears twitched a little at the sounds from the surroundings, turning and twisting as a new crack came from another direction, a rustle in the other. Her head perked suddenly, jerking back as she heard a whole new sound-- someone approaching. But she was confident, and decided to lay still with her head up. She could take whoever was to come head on, having been by herself for so long.

Making no effort to mask his approach, the male plodded through the forest. It was surprisingly similar to underwater, he thought. There had been many a time he had to wriggle to free himself from slimy water-dwelling plantlife. He was forced to use his legs more, though. Shifting his entire form on land wouldn't help him quite as much on land as it did when he was gliding through the water.
Climbing onto a fallen tree, he looked about. His tail swished considerably, keeping him balanced on the mossy surface. Left, right, left, right- Hm? What was that? Squinting out in front of him, he noticed something dark. It stood out rather obviously, all things considered. Thinking nothing of possible consequences, he jumped from the log, darting though a few more trees until he reached his target. It was an awkward sort of entrance that left him completely unprotected, staring down at the laying Kylan with what was probably a pretty stupid expression.

The other listened carefully, pinpointing the direction of the newcomer. She'd not seen another Kylan around these parts for a long, long time ago, so she didn't really assume it would be one. Soon enough, however, she was proven wrong as the frame of another of her kind was drawn against the forest background. She remained still, though now stared at the other intensely.
As he made his not-very-subtle approach, she shot up onto her feet, fur bristled and tail swishing from side to side irritably. She wasn't one with a heavy built, no, rather sleek in fact, and she quickly sized the male up for a good measure. Considering his superior mass, she'd most likely be the receiving end of any hostility. To spare her well maintained fur-- as if she had anything else to do but to groom it in between feeding and sleeping --the female Kylan bowed her head a little in greeting. She kept her eyes on him, however, just in case he'd make any abrupt movements.
"Well met, stranger."

Considering himself rather sensitive, the male wasn't surprised that he sensed something from the other upon his arrival. However, it wasn't quite joyous and he felt his spirits dampening. Well, not really, but it was nice to try self-sensitivity every once in a while, right? Taking a single step back from the irritable new company he'd aquired, he canted his head innocently, tail swishing in an equally unthreatening manner.
"It would seem so," he responded, unsual eyes scanning the dark female's pelt with apt curiousity. "I'm Yaxha. It's a pleasure, my lady," he said with a slight bow, eyes never leaving her form. All the while, a smirk of sorts sat on his maw, unwilling to move for a more respectful expression. That was just his way. He certainly meant no harm by it. Laughing gently, he pulled his form back up. "May I ask my lady's name?"

Deeming the male to be no threat to her, despite plunging into what she called her territory so carelessly. Fujiro lifted her head a little, the fur on her neck and back smoothing as she took a more relaxed composure. Her tail flicked, still, but not quite as sharply as before.
Dotted by the lights and shadows of the forest canopy, the other introduced as Yaxha really didn't seem threatening at all, despite his superior size. "Pleasure's all mine," she replied, although her voice certainly couldn't be described as overjoyed. Taking a step forward and peering at Yaxha, she kept an eye on him, not managing to hide her curiousity. Despite usually preferring to spend her time by herself, it was interesting to meet another of her kind. "Fujiro," came her short answer. To her, the male seemed like an irritably laid back individual, while she had grown to restrain most of her behaviour and keep her distance. "Haven't seen you around here before, coming from afar?" She inguired, not wanting to seem rude.

Noting the change in the air--or what he at least imagined to be a slight relaxation in his company--the male's lips curled into an even more jovial expression, showing off his personable nature. Ears slid back as she stepped forward. And yet, completely undaunted, he even stood up straighter and puffed out his fur at bit to make himself more presentable for 'my lady.' Emeraldback markings rippled like liquid in the spotted light as he, very obviously, acted the show-off.
"What a lovely name, Ms. Fujiro," he commented honestly, lids sliding gently shut to wet his eyes. He still wasn't quite used to not being able to dip his head underwater whenever he pleased. "I come from the water." He wasn't exactly specific, but the layout of the forest was lost on him. Just how far he'd traveled had blurred into nothing on his journey here.

Fujiro gave Yaxha one more once-over, admitting that his marking dwarfed even her own well maintained fur. Her fur settled and smoothened along her figure as she came at ease with the other's presence. Despite preferring to keep to her lonesome ways, she supposed she could use the company-- at least for as long as she pleased. Losing the foreign male in her part of the forest wouldn't be a task.
"Such sweet words you speak," she replied, the corner of her mouth tugging to a small smile. Her ears perked a little and she gave a pondering look. Why, there was a small creek with running water nearby, but she would've seen the male around, and she'd hardly call the place "the water," given the dryness of the terrain. "Not many waterholes in these parts," she mused, "so you must have traveled a great distance." And, eager to hear more of this place, she sat down, paws together like was suitable for a refined lady. "Tell me more of this water."

"Sweet words for a sweet lady." There was a slight joke in his voice, as there almost always was. He didn't doubt this new female could be sweet, everyone had it in them. The greeting he'd first recieved, however, told him that if ever such sweetness was shown, it certainly wouldn't be shown to him for a long time. Or maybe he was reading too deeply.
Turning to look behind him, silver eyes narrowed. "Not many, you say?" Having never left the comfort of his own waters, he really had no idea. And he had walked rather far without seeing another significant body of water. "Well, yes, I have come far." Looking back at her, he smiled. "But it was well worth it." Canting his head, he looked thoughtful for a moment. "It's deep enough to swim. I've lived there my whole life. Ah..." What else was there? "Not much else to say. Nothing interesting, anyway."

Fujiro gave a snort at his reply, but didn't seem to be insulted by his joke. In fact, a rather amused expression made a brief appearance on her delicate face. So he wanted to play word games with her? He'd picked the wrong playmate, then. "Flattery is sweet as the honey of wild bees, but watch yourself. Too much of a sweet thing will make you sick."
The female listened intently, not having ever been to said "water" he spoke of. In fact, she'd always spent her time in the woods, and had never seen a significant water. Only a forest spring and a creek. Swimming was a completely foreign concept to her. "Swim?" She inquired. "Isn't that the job of fish, how does one breathe underwater or swim when lacking the physique of a fish?" Why, it was truly a perplexing thought.

Too much of a sweet thing could make you sick? Speaking literally, he hadn't eaten many sweet things in his life. Living no further than about ten feet from the water at a time, his diet consisted of underwater plants and animals and whatever reeds grew at the edge of the river. The fish meat and plants tended to range from salty to tasteless. Berries and other fruits didn't grow close enough to the water for him to have ever tried them. But then again, he supposed she wasn't speaking literally. Ah well. For now, he would let her have that one.
"Swimming's not just for fish," he assured with a firm nod. "I practically lived in the water. Slept at least half-way on the shore, though." Opening his mouth, he sucked in a deep breath of air. His chest rose and fell with the action. "But I breathe air like you, see?" As for swimming, that was probably just because he'd grown up in the water. Anyone could get good at anything if they did it all their lives. "I can just wiggle myself and use my paws." He tried to simulate the action by moving his body. But without being able to lift his paws from the ground, he probably only looked foolish.

Fujiro flicked her ears back as the male argued against her personal truth of swimming only being the job of fish. She wrinkled her nose a little, but despite her irritation at such claims, she still listened intently. One ear perked back up as her new acquaintance tried to mimic swimming on dry land, and if she had been the kind to be easily amused, she'd probably laughed.
Sadly, laughing happened rather seldom in her lonesome life. Instead, she snorted with a small smile tugging at the corner of her mouth, making it look like it was somehow painful to smile. "But doesn't the fur get all wet and heavy? Don't you sink like a rock?" Obviously not, otherwise the male wouldn't be here to talk to her. "Can everyone swim? Even I? Is it hard?" She barked the questions out like they were more so orders and demands than actual questions, but truthfully, she was rather excited at the thought of swimming. It could be fun.

"Heavy?" The attempted swimming motion slowed and eventually stopped. Looking down at his paws thoughtfully, he shrugged. "Not really." Although, one could say he was born for the water, in a way. His skin was oilier than most, providing his fur with a good enough barrier against the liquid element. His ability to survive in the water rivaled that of the aquatic species, one could say. Although he'd never met an aquatic, so could never know well enough to make that sort of claim.
"I bet you could swim, too, my lady!" his voice raised happily. Despite the harshness of her questioning, he seemed completely unaffected. "It's not hard at all. At least, not for me." It probably took a bit of practice, but he'd been swimming for so long he couldn't remember a time he didn't know how. "I could teach my lady, if she's interested." A toothy smile showed itself and his tail flicked.

The female seemed to weigh her options. Ears flicked as she wrinkled her muzzle in thought, then turning her eyes back to the colorful male. "I suppose I could try it out, if you say it's so easy." She then agreed, although a new problem soon arose. She didn't know any proper bodies of water in the nearby area, and the creek would be too shallow to swim in, as she could easily wade over it to the other side. But, the creek too would finally end up somewhere else.
"We'll be following the water," Fujiro announced, stretching her legs before-- without waiting for him to reply, of course -- trotting right past him. The little river of water wasn't that far away, and the sooner they got to it, the sooner it'd lead them to open water. She was courteous enough to not blast right through the dense forest, however, figuring her new company might find it difficult to navigate after her.

At first, it seemed as if he would continue standing there, slightly confused, or maybe mostly unobservant. Finally, he stretched his neck, glancing behind him at the sight of her back disappearing into the underbrush. Well, she certainly wasn't one to mince words. If he hadn't discovered that before, he definitely had now. Turning on his heels, he trotted off after her. Even with all the time he'd been traveling before meeting her, the forest still tripped him up here and there and he would let out a rather un-Yaxha-like grumble or two as he pulled his paws from the offending foliage.
"Following the water, eh?" he questioned idly behind her, glancing around long enough to get his foot caught again. Pulling it out, grumbled again. He couldn't remember seeing any other bodies of water around here while he was moving. But, at the same time, he hadn't been looking for water very hard after leaving it.
