The Gilgamesh
Yeah yeah....a crappy map, but meh, imagine the greyish blobs are guns and stuff.

The Gilgamesh is a high-security prison ship, created in response to the massive amount of prison ships raidings, hi-jackings, and escapings. The designer, one Harold J Friddle, recieved most of his inspiration from his pet snapping turtle, Freida. Although slow, the Gilgamesh had a thick defensive hull. The pride and joy of the Gilgamesh however, was the five card defense system. The cards are entrusted to the top five commanding officers. Using three of those cards the Gilgamesh could be put into an emergency shut down. The ship seals itself off, inspired by the way Frieda would pull back into her shell at the sign of danger. The controls of the entire ship are frozen and inaccessible. Motion is ceased, an alarm is triggered, however life support systems remain functioning. In a shutdown mode all the docks are sealed off except for one, which is only accessible to small sized ships, and even that one dock requires one of the five cards to access. In order to exit out of the emergency shut down, all five cards must be used, with the appropriate pin numbers.

Since the use of the Gilgamesh two years ago, prison ship piracy is down Sixty-Four percent. Those who argue against the Gilgamesh fear the design is faulty and gives little thought to the prisoners and their livelihood in cases of emergency. This is, of course, a silly idea. We at Spaceflight incorporated believe it is more important to secure the safety of good law-abiding citizens such as yourself. Our focus is preventing the prisoners from escaping and returning to society, before they reach their various destinations in the outer colonies, and containment planes.

If you wish to purchase an economic civilian ticket on the prisonship, you are welcome to do so. We assure you the civilian passage is completely safe and separated from the prison and prisoners. Daily rations and a cot is included in the price. Upgrading food in quality and quantity is available at the recreation center inside the ship. We hope you consider flying with us in the near future.

The Eye of Hamied

(aka The Stone of Miracles....>.<)

In the stories they say it looks like a common white river stone, small enough to rest in the palm of a child's hand, except it always takes a new form when a wish has been granted and the host chosen. The stone gives one wish, one miracle, and stays with the wisher until he or she dies. There is little magic involved, being the stone does not make things appear, but can tell a person where to find them, how to achieve impossible goals, or simply whisper the secrets of death, illness, or even immortality.

The stone itself is a bloody item, as countless people have been murdered to free it from previous masters, and enable the wish again. Some view it as heaven sent, others view it as a tool of darker means.

The eye is considered by most to be an old legend, until recently. Rumors have spread involving a massacre, the kore, and a darker society. All point to the existence of the eye, and not just an existence, but the location as well.

Somewhere hidden on the Gilgamesh, in the hands of a prisoner or a civilian, or even a crew member, rests a pale river rock.

Triadic Republic/ Triadic code/Colonies

The Triadic Republic is the strongest governmental structure in the known universe. The head of the system are the three prime ministers who represent Earth and its two sister planets. However, its very foundation is becoming shaky. Corruption is filling the ranks like poison through the veins. The current ministers are both wise and good hearted, but they still have strings to pull.

Triadic Code is a series of rules that form the foundation of the republic and how it deals with its citizens as well as alien races.
The base law of the triadic republic revolves around fair treatment of all peoples know matter what race, what species, what gender, or what social standing.
Outer systems run by beings with lower level technology may not be plundered, and colonies may only be established through proper trade agreement.
In recent times it has come under much criticism, particularly in the way it limits the growth of the Triadic Republic. Some criticize the new worlds should be fair game, despite their inhabitants, particularly if they can bring them new and better ways of life. There is also rising concern about alien races, particularly since the outbreak of the plague.

Colonies of the Triadic Republic dot across the galaxy. Some of them consist of prison run colonies, where minor prisoners have been transfered to work and live while serving their sentence. More dangerous criminals are sent to special facilities out in the colony rims. Colonies are good places for fortune hunters, and those seeking a place in life. However, the colonies being so far away from the main system of government can be wild at times. Also, despite the triadic code, it is not uncommon for the ideals behind it to be shunned in the colonies. Cruelty to native races is common, as well as a growing prejudice among different species.

The Kore

An organization of special indviduals, the Kore is a very exclusive group. They select people when young, and train them in their ranks. It's not uncommon for those who speak against them to mysteriously disappear. They have their hands in many different financial organizations, particularly those out in the colonies. They are some of the chief opponents against the Triadic Code.

Their strongest company within their grasp is Medikor, the leading health organization in the galaxy.

Recently the head of the Kore was killed, little detail was given as to how, but some speculate it had connection with the recent massacre, but foul play is most definitley assumed. His apprentice took his place as the lead of the organization, which has never been stronger.

Plague/MediKor/Pandora's Massacre

The Plague spread quickly among the population of Earth's sister planet. The first signs of the illness coincided with the arrival of a new species of alien who came with peaceful greetings to the republic. There was fear the whole republic would crumble as mass amounts of people began to take ill and die, but soon a cure was found and released. The new heroes of the universe became Medikor, the founders of the cure. In contrast there grew a strong distrust of alien people.

MediKor is the strongest health organization in the universe. After finding a cure for the plague their power grew three fold. They're honored as a good and heroic organization, even if founded and controlled by the mysterious Kore. A select few, however, often wonder how truly good the corporation is. Was it really the alien race who brought the plague?

Pandora's Massacre is a tragedy that occurred in the Medikor's Pandora facility. The people inside the building were butchered. There were no survivors. The situation is currently considered unsolved, however many leads have been covered up and kept quiet. Some people have questioned if the massacre was not tied to the mysterious ACO.

Implants/Augmentations/Natural gifts

Powers are not so uncommon these days. In fact, in certain work people are given implants or augmentations that assist them in their daily tasks, such as increased strength for construction workers, and the ability to withstand fire for firemen. However, these augmentations and implants are licensed, and highly monitored. They are not designed for use as weapons.

Natural powers are also not uncommon, but they are usually given dampener implants to keep the power in manageable control. All powers that could be used as dangerous weapons are dampened unless licensed.

Illegal implants are a possibility, but those are very dangerous, are less likely to work than normal implants, and may have many side effects. The only way for a prisoner to have a working implant/augmentation is if it were an illegal one not caught by the inspectors.

Profile Format

Name:
Description:
History/Personality:
Skills: like computer skills, marksmanship skills, fighting skills, etc.
Augmentations/implants: Augmentations are an optional choice, but if they are legal they must have a valid reason for being there ie. A construction worker would have valid need for augmented strength.
1-
2-
Items/weapons: 3 things that you have access to like a journal, a violin, a locket, a gun, a sword, etc.
1-
2-
3-
Home World: make one up, or use earth, just have fun with it.
Reason for Being on the Ship: Is the character one of the prisoners? One of the guards? A civilian? A bounty hunter looking for someone hiding on the ship? One of the crew (minor crew cause the captains and stuff are dead...buwahahaha)? A treasure hunter after the eye of Hamied? Or one of the Kore (talk to me about this first)
Reason for Wanting the eye/what he or she would wish for: If your character could wish for anything using the eye, what would he/she wish for? Are they searching for it themselves? Are they tempted? Do they have a loved one that will die if they don't find it? Will they themselves die if they don't find it? What are they willing to do for it? Or do they just want the money? xd

Why is the sick bay over the engines and the prison (and is this specifically a penal transport, for it to be so large?) near the docking, rather than vice versa? I'd think no one would care if the prisoners blew up or got radiation poisoning, but the sick and broken should be allowed a decent chance of escape.

Likewise, why have the crew quarters directly behind the most guns, and therefore the most likely to be destroyed by misfire in battle? Instead, shrink the over-sized bridge and put them more in the center, protected by hull while remaining close to their main stations.

What differences do you have between the control center and the bridge? If it's a matter of the bridge directs and the control center is responsible for firing, comm, damage assessment, etc., it should follow the length of the battle frame, covering all stations and weapons, etc, and funneling to the bridge. Possibly part of it in the engine room, near the front.

What type of ship is the Gilgamesh? Is it a prison transport, a cargo ship, passenger ship, privateer, armed merchant, merchant escort? Jack of all trades? For what purpose was it build, and how is it currently maintained? Is the prison section, for example, the most seriously damaged section of the ship and therefore converted from it's original purpose (troop transport, cargo hold, med ship--sick bay now transferred to a less damaged section, evac, colonization equipment and supplies)? Is it meant for long voyages, and if so, where is the recreation? If not, why is the engine room so big, and the crew quarters? (Or is this ship smaller than it looks?) Why are there more civilians than crew, and why such a large sick bay? Is there easy access to the engine room for any of the crew working there, or is it easier for civilians (and escaped prisoners) to get there (and possible do a hostile takeover)? Is part of that huge engine room actually where its crew sleeps when off-duty, and that's just not shown on the schematic? ... Is the schematic deliberately wrong, to throw people (namely escaped prisoners and annoy civilians) off, so they get hopelessly lost and can't get where they're not supposed to be too fast for the crew to spot them and steer them away (or recapture them)?

What is the Eye, and why would who seek it? It grants wishes?

What are the Kore?

What plague, what's medikor, what was Pandora's Massacre? (I'm assuming a famous plague period, type of treatment or medical facility, and murderous incident akin to the Tarsus IV incident in Star Trek--or maybe it was an engineered disease developed by the MediKor company, used with disasterously effective results in what became know as Pandora's Massacre [named for a star, a planet, a particular ship involved, or for being in or near a rather nasty navigation section of the universe, perhaps], which then spread to the rest of the system/galaxy/universe as a plague? wink Proof that AC thinks overmuch.)

Sometime I will post "Baseline." Not sure why you have a post for extra-normal stuff/abilities, unless there's a set list..?

eek Whoa, the Skip and higher-ups are dead? Ouch. Who's running the ship? Heck, how's the pilot? Or the NavComm? Higher-ups, yo. You tell me middies are running this thing or something? Were all the most experienced crew on the bridge when it got crushed and they died, and if so, shouldn't the Chief Engineer be in charge? Do we have an officer or civilian (or officer outside the chain of command) running sick bay, and does that person take a new significance in the heirarchy with the main crew gone (or did he already have it)?

Who is in charge of the prisoners? Keeping them locked up, providing food, making sure the toilets do (or don't!) work, etc. An officer? A rent-a-cop? A prison warden or assistant PW?

Is this the future from this Earth's point of view? The super one that started with Flippyville, I mean. ...How far ahead?

She'll answer when she answers, but some of it is suggestion and some honest inquiry. Mostly, I'm a David Weber fan... ^_^ You go scifi on me, you gotta have the details worked out. Some of them, at least. Hooray!

Besides that, it's just easier to come up with character(s) if you know the situation. The sooner I have that in mind, the sooner I can think one up, the sooner I can get into the feel of rping her, the sooner I can jump in the story convincingly. heart
