Raven Arrikanez was born along with her twin sister - Erin - from parents who really could give less than a care about their existance in the world. Their father was a raging lunatic, who ran the entire Iglaci - an army originating from Halaarc. You see, the sisters weren't originally Juridian. After their mother died, it was up to Michael Bell - a general within the Iglaci - to look after the children. Unlike their real father, Michael was kind, patient, and protective. He knew that he had to get the sisters off Halaarc before they could come to any harm. So he sent them through a portal set to random. And out they popped smack dab in the middle of Karai Memorial.

A passing street-thug made a grab for the sisters, and caught them, taking them back to his hideout to attempt to 're-educate' them. Raven escaped, leaving Erin behind, and soon enough living in the city on her own. Life was hard in the streets. Raven traveled the entire city sometimes, looking for food, shelter, and money. One evening, she made a mistake, and pissed off the wrong people. The ones she'd robbed chased her to an alley in the center of town. It turned out that they were the three leaders of the Thieves Guild. Not a stupid girl, when they asked her to join [versus being killed], she gladly accepted, and began her training as a thief.

She had many friends. All of them taught her various skills... How to blend with shadows, where the best pockets were to pick, how to seduce someone into giving up their money, and... how to kill. Only that was unintentional. While she was with them, there was a rogue faction within the guild that wanted to see their leader destroyed, and someone from their own point of view stuck in his place. The leader's Guild name was Reaper. His real name was Tony. Tony had taken Raven and trained her in everything he knew. They were very close to one another. The student-pupil relationship was a thing of the past. Soon enough, they were lovers, and Raven was pregnant with his child. She was captured during labor, and the baby taken before she had a chance to see it. In a rage, she grabbed the first weapon she could find, and started firing blindly, ten shots.

When she finally came out of her rage, her lover was on the ground, dying from the shot-wounds SHE had inflicted. He lasted only long enough to give the Guild over to her, and then died in her arms. The others of the rouge faction took over immediately, and control was wrested from her hands. There was nothing she could do but watch the guild go to ruin under the leadership of someone not fit to run it. There were too many painful memories involved in that life to go back to her old ways. So she worked on her shifting, and found a job as a rescue dog in her mutt form. That raked in enough cash for her to open up her own strip-club. It had to be then that she fell in love with club life. It was something she was good at, too. People stopped going to the others clubs in favor of Heav'N'ell. But good things don't always last.

Her club was seized by the officials only a year and a half after it's opening. She was given a paltry settlement fee, and used the money to open another club - this one kept a secret save among the night-dwellers. The vampires. She found she liked the night life. Midnight Crimson grew into a huge joint, and was filled to the brim every night. There were benefits to running a vampire club. One of those was Redd. Another was Johann. Redd and Johann were vampires that had full run, and rule, of the city of Karai. If there was something happening somewhere, Redd would know it - and Johann was probably the one causing it. The two had been at odds with each other for centuries, with Johann being Redd's Sire. Knowing the two most influential people in Karai was a definate bonus. As well as a minus.

Every time she opened the club, she had at least one death threat. And one night, she was even ambushed by a gang that called themselves The Murder. After almost two years of being constantly harrassed and continuously afraid, she handed over temporary custody of the club to her vampire friends, and set off to get away from her foes. THEY left her alone. But there was one person she would never have thought to see again - especially not in such a state. The link they shared as twins identified the scared young man as her sister, Erin. He now went by Aaron, and was a full-blooded male. She was immediately attracted to his way of life. For a while, she ran with his gang - The Sylver Gryphons, run by a man named Garrett Jackal.

They were some of the best times Raven had had in her life. Until her brother was taken away from her, and she was forced into a slave-camp offworld when caught on the day of a big raid. Of the fifteen that were caught and tortured, only Raven survived. And she survived the camps long enough to be returned to Juridia. She realized then, that Juridia wasn't a place she wanted to be, and set up a portal with random coordinates. She landed right here on Gaia, smack dab in the middle of the Barton Square fountain. After using a month to get acclimated to the strange world, she was convinced that it would be a wonderful idea to start up Gaia's OWN version of her vampire club. But she did not know that she had been followed to this world...

The black widow spider (Latrodectus spp.) is a spider notorious for its neurotoxic venom. It is a large widow spider found throughout the world and commonly associated with urban habitats or agricultural areas. Although the name 'black widow spider' is most commonly used to refer to the three North American species best known for their dark coloration, black hair and red hourglass pattern, occasionally it is applied to several other members of a the Latrodectus (widow spider) genus in which there are 31 recognized species including the Australian red-back, brown widow spider (sometimes called the gray widow), and the red widow spider. In South Africa, widow spiders are also known as the button spiders.

Currently, there are three recognized species of black widow found in North America: The southern black widow (L. mactans), the northern black widow (L. variolus), and the western black widow (L. hesperus). As the name indicates, the southern widow is primarily found in (and is indigenous to) the southeastern United States, ranging from Florida to New York, and west to Texas, Oklahoma and they run particularly rampant in parts of Arizona. The northern black widow is found primarily in the northeastern U.S. and southeastern Canada (only on the Bruce Peninsula), though its ranges overlap that of L. mactans quite a bit. The western widow is found in the western half of the United States, as well as in southwestern Canada and much of Mexico.

Adult female black widow spiders are gloss black with an hourglass shaped marking on the underside of its abdomen which is red. And male black widow spiders' hourglass color is yellow to white to various shades of orange and red. They also bear a small, usually red (colors vary) dot near the spinnerets, which is separate from the hourglass. In L. variolus, the two halves of the hourglass shape may be separated into two separate patches. A large female black widow spider can grow to about 1.5 inches (37 mm), counting legspan. The body is about 0.5-0.6 inches (12-15 mm). Male black widow spiders are half the size of the female or smaller. They have longer legs and a smaller abdomen in relation to their body size. They are also usually dark brown with varying colors of stripes/dots, with no hourglass mark. Adult males can be distinguished from juvenile females by their more-slender body, longer legs and large pedipalps typical of most other male spiders.

As with many venomous creatures, the brightly colored markings serve as a warning to predators. Eating a black widow will normally not kill a small predator (birds, et cetera), but the sickness that follows digestion is enough for the creature to remember that the bright red marking means "do not eat." Because the adult female black widow typically hangs and moves about its web upside down, its hourglass is on its front. Juvenile female widows spend a large quantity of time in search of an optimal environment. Once an optimal location is found, adult female widows often spend their entire lives in one place. Because juvenile females must first find this optimal location, they bear brightly colored marks upon their backs, so that they may be seen by predators when the widow is walking using its legs. Males bear similar marks to the females to serve as warning while they are searching for mates, however, the marks are not as prominent (not as brightly colored, or as large). Males, being less venomous, are less of a threat to predators, so having less prominent but similar marks helps predators to better judge their prey (some large birds can eat male widows without adverse effect, and so only avoid female spiders; those who cannot eat any widow without adverse effect eat nothing with the marks). Female juveniles develop an hourglass before the dorsal markings are shed. As is characteristic of all arthropods, black widow spiders have a hard exoskeleton composed of chitin and protein.

Black widow spiders typically prey on a variety of insects, but occasionally they do feed upon woodlice, diplopods, chilopods and other arachnids. When the prey is entangled by the web, L. mactans quickly comes out of its retreat, wraps the prey securely in its strong web, then punctures and envenomates its prey. The venom takes about ten minutes to take effect; in the mean time, the prey is held tightly by the spider. When movements of the prey cease, digestive enzymes are released into the wound. The black widow spider then carries its prey back to its retreat before feeding.

There are various parasites and predators of widow spiders in North America, though apparently none of these have ever been evaluated in terms of augmentation programs for improved biocontrol. Parasites of the egg sacs include the flightless scelionid wasp Baeus latrodecti, and members of the chloropid fly genus Pseudogaurax. Predators of the adult spiders include a few wasps, most notably the blue mud dauber, Chalybion californicum, and the spider wasp Tastiotenia festiva. Other species will occasionally and opportunistically take widows as prey, but the preceding all exhibit some significant specific preference for Latrodectus.
